We have been using Alan Energy services for many years. We have found the tech to be very polite and professional. We subscribe to their year round clean and check service for both the AC and furnace, and have been very pleased. Their prices are fair and the response time is very quick. One time a plumber cut through a furnace exhaust, causing carbon monoxide to enter the house. When the fire truck came out and found the problem, I called Alan Energy Services immediately, they came out within minutes- even before the fireman had left out home. I had been using Alan for years, before they merged with another company. The service has actually improved. Brian was in charge of completing a detailed inspection of the property, square footage, vents, returns, etc. once he understood the options for our house, he presented two. We were doing both the AC unit and furnace. We went with a heat pump and high efficiency furnace. They came when they said they would, took care of the permits from the Village , and also took off of the bill a bunch of rebates in the thousands of dollars. We didn't need to do anything, their office handled it all. What is really a bit strange is there is no sound when the air is on. Nothing. It's really pleasant. Our furnace was 25 years old and our A/C was over 50 years old! We called a few companies including Alan. A friend recommend them as he used them a few years ago and was very pleased. Brian came out to give us an estimate. He was very pleasant and very informative. A few days later we called him with a few questions and he took the time to answer each question without brushing us off. We called the other companies with questions and were given very vague answers. We decided on Alan. We were given the names of the installers so we would know who was coming into our home. Jeff and Alex arrived on time. Both were very pleasant and professional. They were done installing both a new furnace and A/C unit in about 6 hours. Very happy with this 'new' company! The problem we were having was identified by Matt who was thorough in identifying it, answered all my questions & it turned out we needed a new thermostat. Had a technician give an annual check-up to our furnace on a snowy day in January. He tracked in snow and mud through our hallway and onto our basement carpeting without any acknowledgement. All right then, we can clean it up--feel sorry for this guy's mom if he's like that at home. Fast forward three months to April--now the furnace is not heating the home to the thermostat temperature. Called them back, and a different technician (Greg) came out thankfully. He was friendly and informative and said it was probably a faulty flame sensor, which he cleaned. But shouldn't that have been done in January? He tried to say it could have built up sediment in that three month span--not likely. This is a Lennox unit they installed less than 10 years earlier (when the previous owner lived in the home). Technician said it would be $85 for the 15 minute visit. I asked him to call the owner to consider waiving the fee as a courtesy since we paid to have them check and tune up the system just a few months earlier. Nope. Pay your $85. Did not receive a bill until yesterday (4 months later), complete with an additional charge of $1.28 for past due interest. So our check for $86.28 is going in the mail today. I hope it is worth it to them to lose a customer for life. read more

I have been an Alan Heating customer since 1975. In 1976, shortly after the birth of my son, our old air-conditioning failed in the house we had just purchased the year prior. With heat in the 100's and a new baby getting extremely cranky, Alan Heating responded quickly and had a new Lennox A/C system installed the next day. A few years later, the original furnace "subtly" failed. I say "subtly" because I was out of town on business and my wife called me advising me that our carbon monoxide detector was showing some numbers on it rather than its usual "zero". It was still running - - just "subtly" killing us. I contacted Alan Heating and they responded "immediately" - like within 2 hours. It was determined that the burner in the old furnace had cracked and was spewing CO2 into the house. Needless to say, Alan Heating shut it down immediately. While my wife and child spent a rather 'cool' evening that night, Alan Heating was there the next day with a brand new Lennox furnace and by that evening, my family was warm again. I missed it all being out of town, but I am forever grateful that we had a CO2 detector and that Alan Heating was "on it" immediately. In 2002, we purchased a newer, bigger home in Elmhurst. It was perfect except for the outdated furnace, A/C, water heater and humidifier. After moving in, I again contacted Alan Heating and worked with them to determine a new furnace size, new A/C, new humidifier and a new 50 gal. water heater. Since the old stuff was still working (but leaking water on the basement floor), we asked that they get all the new equipment on hand first and then pick an install date that worked for both of us. The install took a day and a half for everything, including removal of the old stuff, and it has all been running flawlessly for 10 years now as of this review date. I have Alan Heating come over twice a year for equipment checks and filter changes and to check our 3-zone air delivery system. In the 37 years I have depended upon them, I have never experienced a discourteous employee nor a failed appointment date. They are a top notch, established, long-time Elmhurst business and you will not find a finer group of people to work with. read more

I had 3 estimates, prior me researching my issue with the furnace was with the heat exchangers needing replacement. The other 2 HVAC local companies, Elmhurst, wanted to sell me a new furnace. Alan Heating Air Conditioning, Elmhurst, came out and gave me an estimate of exchanging out the heat exchanger rather than trying to sell me a new furnace. I would definitely call Alan Heating again for any issues that may arise. Yesterday I called Alan heating. My furnace was "dead". They came out first thing the next day. It turns out it was a minor repair. The igniter was bad and needed to be replaced. That's what I like about these folks. They will look to repair a unit before they try to sell you a new one. That is just plain outstanding nowadays. My husband and I called Alan Heating when our furnace broke down. A maintenance man arrived and immediately fixed it. Told us the problem was a part that was malfunctioning and he had in his truck. He fixed it and didn't try to overcharge us. Before he arrived, we had called Elm Heating. They told us we needed a new furnace and that it would cost $20K. Alan Heating told us a new furnace was not necessary and that Elm Heating was just trying to get us to buy their furnace and that all that was needed was this part. I really appreciate their honesty. It's been three years since we had our furnace serviced and we have had no problems! I highly recommend these guys!!! read more

Alan Heating installed my central air years ago. Last year they let me know my Carrier furnace, installed in the mid 80s was on its last leg. Well during the last cold spell it broke. Not wanting to sink any money into it, I ordered their top line high effiency furnace. I replaced a 120k btu furnace with a 65k btu Lennox high effiency furnace and couldn't be happier. I wished the thing had broke down a decade ago. These new furnaces heat the house at an even temperature. No more high blast of hot air followed by a cooling off period. They came out right away, did a temporary fix to the old furnace and did a great job on the installation of the new one. Couldn't be happier. read more

We are forever grateful to Alan Heating! Our furnace stopped working overnight on December 24th and we woke up on Christmas morning to a freezing cold house. Alan Heating was closed on Christmas Day, but we took a chance and called anyway. Mike answered the phone, and couldn't have been any more helpful. He walked my husband and I through the steps to test specific parts on our furnace, mind you we were completely clueless about what we were doing so he had to repeat himself several times in order for us to understand what to do next. Within 10 minutes our furnace was back on. Mike took time out of his day and stepped away from his family on Christmas morning to help us get back up and running, and we will only work with Alan Heating from now on. Highly recommended. The first time I called Alan, after we had moved into our house, they told me that unless I was an existing customer, I would be so far down the list that they wouldn't come to my house for weeks. I hung up, disappointed. Then, when I examined my furnace to discover that Alan had installed it, they agreed to come out sooner. Great way to treat potential new customers. This week, I called on Monday morning because our heater is not working properly. I asked to schedule an appointment to have someone come and take a look at it. It is now Thursday and I have yet to hear back from Alan about an appointment time much less when they may come to fix the problem. Clearly they aren't concerned that I have intermittent heat during a December cold snap. Great way to treat existing customers. I can't decide if I should call them back and complain or just give up and find a new HVAC service. I can tell you that when we need to replace our furnace, Alan won't be doing the work. read more

Not very impressed with this company. Had a serviceman come out to my house to check my furnace. My basement is a dingy dirty basement with alot of furniture in it. The serviceman seen a cockroach and immediately freaked out saying he cannot work in such poor conditions. He then charged me 128 dollars for an incomplete examination and approximately 30 minutes of work. I know my basement could have been cleaner but you would figure someone in this line of work ( and a man ) would be more comfortable around bugs in a basement. The technician arrived when they said he would. He was polite and seemed capable and fixed the problem, which was that my thermostat was not working. Unfortunately, he only had a non-programmable new thermostat with him, which seemed sort of odd. But it works, $330 later. I have no idea if that's reasonable, but I have air conditioning again! read more

My furnace failed due to a cracked heat exchanger. The company was referred to me by a large new home builder in Elmhurst. Their representative was here immediately after I called and gave me a VERY competitive quote. The were able to schedule the work for the next day. I highly recommend them. read more

I have used Alan since around the year 2000. I bought my house in 1998 and tried a couple of other companies before I hired them. They have done a great job with maintaining my furnace. They told me that it was better than anything I could buy today and that I should keep it. I'm very happy with this honest answer. I called for a estimate on a new furance and a/c unit, Mike called back and said he would be out in a hour or so. I waited and waited all day for him, but he never came. So I called again again after and left a message, when he called me back he said he was there but saw another heating guys truck was the driveway so he did not come to the door, because he felt that would be rude. I asked why he did not call me to let me know he had a problem, he explaind that because it was just rude. Mike seemed to think, not showing up for an appointment or calling to cancel was not rude. The fact of the matter was, the other compny just showed up to drop off an estimate and was only there for a few minutes. My neighbor and Realestate Agent highly reccomended Alan, but not anymore.
