I had similar oysters in a restaurant downtown Glasgow 12 for 50 pounds ! This is the absolutely the best hands down fresh off the boat seafood you can have in my humble opinion! Whilst waiting for the ferry to Barra me and my friend decided to get a deluxe seafood platter.. We decided to go for take away as we were soon going to board the ferry, so sat in the car to eat it.. The box contained a whole lobster, 2 crab claws, 2 scallops, 2 langustines, loads of mussels, small prawns, medium prawns, razor clams, clams and calamari.. It also came with two dips and some salad.. All this for just £27.. Total bargain and fresh.. Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.. There is also the option to sit in on a wee bench and table.. But be prepared to be rained on.. On my route back I stopped in again and got 3 crab claws (my favourite) the cost was £2.30 they go by weight.. I sat on the harbour wall to eat them which was just prefect and I managed to finish them before the rain started.. This place is a must if you are in Oban..

I've been in here a few times for bits and pieces, and the staff are such lovely and pleasant women. They'll give you advice where needed, eg recipes/seasoning, and they'll tell you the best place to get something they don't provide. I went in and got a bag of 30 small prawns for less than a pound and almost fainted. Less than a pound! Excellent quality as well, so it's not like you're paying less for lesser quality. If you want something big/obscure such as a whole crab, or swordfish loin, they won't have it in store but they can order it in for you, which is great!

I used to despise fish. I would refuse to go into the fishmongers with my mum because the smell made me squeamish, and the sight of prawns on my dinner plate saw me recoiling in horror! As I got older though, my fishy distaste started to lessen, and I began to try new things. It took me until I was 21 to try a prawn, which is actually embarrassing! Ever since I tried it though, I have been hooked. I have always preferred white meats and fish to red meat, so my love for prawns really widened my horizons, and made me try more fish. I can now officially say that I love it! I went to Pisces one afternoon on the way home from work to pick up some king prawns. My friends and I were recreating Come Dine With Me, and I was determined to win with my juicy prawn tempura starter, and I had been told that Pisces was the place to come. The fishmonger was extremely nice, de-veining my prawns for me (I'm still a bit squeamish) and even recommending how I cook them. I left with a bag of around ten large prawns, for a very competitive price of under £9. I think he might have even given me a wee discount! Fantastic shop, don't be afraid to ask for cooking tips either, my prawn tempura turned out brilliantly!

I can only go on the fish suppers as I have not tried anything else, maybe they just don't get fresh fish straight off the dock like the Hurrie or Viking do but the Haddock fish suppers here leave me cold. For those that remember the old fish and chippy in Giffnock "The Glen" it will always be sadly missed as it was the best fish and chippy in the southside but surprisingly shut down many years ago; the owner (a lovely lady too) actually now works in Asda at the Avenue on the tills. The service at the Catch also leaves a lot to be desired, they just seem to want to sell and take the cash with no real friendly customer service as such. The Glen always knew all of their regulars by name - hint, hint as that is part of what keeps customers coming back but it seems this is a forgotten skill as its all about the money and speed of service now it seems without any attention to making a good fry up either!

Catch is a really good chippy but the prices mean I really can't give it 5 stars. I mean, our dinner for two came to nearly £50. Ouch. We shared mac cheese balls and chicken pakora, both which were excellent. For main I went for the half lobster and it was really nice - delicious meat, a nice amount of garlic butter and the claw came cracked so I didn't have to worry about that. We got a side of potato fritters (which weirdly aren't on the menu, but they do have them) but they were underseasoned and bland until I loaded them up with salt and vinegar (the chips didn't have this problem). I'd definitely go back to Catch and would get a takeaway here, but I do think the prices are pretty steep for what is a casual fish shop dining experience. The prices are considerable cheaper if you're taking away (cod is £10.95 for eat in or £5.40 take away!) so we will do that next time. They also let us take our leftovers away with us so that was good. The staff are really friendly and nice.

I have never seen a fishmongers so busy; on saturday mornings you can see people actually queuing outside just to pick up some prawns or whatever. I mean how many places can you say that about. And the fish is incredible. Having bought the aforementioned prawns (didn't queue though - not because they're not worth it, just because I'm really lazy) I can safely say they're the best in Edinburgh. They are absolutely huge, really fresh and tasted amazing. The rest of the food is awesome as well, even if you're just picking up a piece of haddock or something then it is the best place around. Admittedly slightly more expensive than the supermarkets, but when you're getting fish of this quality that is fresh every day then you can't really complain.

Rather than simply trying to flog me the most expensive fish they had, the guy was very patient with me and showed me loads of different options. When I used to live in Marchmont I used to see the new deiliveries coming in every day (on the rare occasions I was up early enough, that is!), so you can always be confident that the stuff they have is fresh.

Having…read moreonly recently dipped my toes into the world of Seafood I tentatively booked dinner at Peters a few months ago for their Pre-Theatre menu. A set menu with 3 courses at £14.50, this is excellent value for the quality of food you get in a tiny restaurant. The place is family run, by Peter himself and his wife I'm sure. They really couldn't do enough for us when we visited. The starters on the menu on our visit (it changes) were the usual suspects in a Seafood restaurant, prawn cocktail, crab cakes, calamari etc. They also had Chicken Empanadas, which I tried, given that I'm new to fish I didn't want 2 courses!! The empanadas were crispy and flavoursome & came with a chilli dipping sauce. A perfect sized portion for a starter. Martyn went with the Prawn cocktail and, as you'd expect in a seafood restaurant, it was totally delicious with juicy prawns and a tangy Marie Rose sauce. I spoke with the waitress before ordering my main and explained that I was new to seafood and unsure about what fish to start with. She suggested the Seabass as it has a mild flavour and a meaty texture. I'm sooo glad I took her advice!! The fish was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and melting flesh, such a delicate flavour and not fishy whatsoever. It was served with wilted spinach and a lemon oil and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It really opened my eyes to the fact that fish doesn't necessarily have that fishy taste I expected it to have. We weren't going to bother with puddings, it was a beautiful sunny night and we both fancied a walk & an Ice cream along Troon beach. However when clearing our plates the Waitress uttered 2 completely delectable words.....'Homemade Profiteroles'. This well and truly sealed the pudding deal and 2 plates swiftly arrived at our table. They were incredibly light with crispy yet airy Choux pastry and filled with delicious vanilla cream. The chocolate on top was the kind that makes u want to lick your plate (and I almost did). Overall an excellent meal in a lovely atmosphere for a great price. I often recommend it to visitors of East Kilbride and I can't wait to go back!
