We reserved/rented a car while on vacation for 5 days. Once we landed and claimed our luggage we stopped by to pick up our rental. We waited in line for a few minutes while another customer was being helped. We were called up, made small chat with the customer rep that assisted us, he was pretty nice and helpful. He gave us directions on how to find the car in the lot and I told us exactly what to do to return it. He was amazing, great customer service. Had no issues with the rental while we had it. We returned it today without any issues, it literally took 5 minutes to return and check it in. The staff located in the parking lot were very helpful and guided us to where to go to park it. We were very pleased with the car and service, and will most definitely use this company again in the future. read more

Overall I was happy with our latest Alamo rental. Pickup took place after their nominal operating hours; it was after 12:30a, but the counter was staffed. We were a little concerned about some pre-existing damage to the body, but apparently we didn't need to be; the total at the end was exactly as expected. I have to say, the Challenger was fun to drive! So, plenty of good, but in the interest of balance: One of my pet peeves is made-up fees; two charges totaling almost $39 seem to apply. Also, we returned the car after-hours, and signs said to drop the keys off "in drop box by booth", but here's the rub - there's no Alamo booth! We dropped our keys off in the National drop-box and hoped for the best (it worked out okay). read more

We rented a minivan from this location and I specifically selected a child safety car seat for my child's age (they have 3 options) and paid for it. When we got to the car rental, the attendant proceeded to give me an infant car seat. I told her no, I requested one for toddler age. She gave me a small , one-piece booster seat which she cannot sit in either because it's not safe for her age. I told her neither of these will work for safety and I selected one they had an option for which was for her age and was told that's all they had available. So I paid money for my child to be unsafe for 6 days driving through windy, hilly, mountain roads. Unacceptable! read more

Came here for vacation and rented a premium truck (Chevy Silverado) for a week. Rates were reasonable and the rental process was smooth and hassle-free! They are located at the terminal, so no shuttle to the car, which is great! The lady that took care of our rental reservation was super friendly and gave us scenic directions to our resort in Gatlinburg. We opted to fill up with gas ourselves as there are plenty of stations nearby. The return process was quick and efficient. We were emailed our receipt and it only took a couple minutes. 2nd time renting from Alamo this year while visiting Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains. Check in was a bit slow as there was only 1 person at the counter and there were already 4 people on line ahead of me. The lady from the Enterprise counter ended up coming over to help out the Alamo line. This location is the only car rental place I've rented from that asked for 2 forms of ID so make sure you have something else besides a credit card and driver license with your name on it (Costco card, insurance card or work ID seemed acceptable). Once I checked in, it was pretty seamless, got the keys and paperwork then headed to the parking lot to find/get the car. Once you find your car and do a walk around (by yourself), you can just drive off, no need to stop by a booth or anything. They ended up giving me a full size sedan (Chevy Impala) which was a nice car to drive. Drop off was seamless as well. Pulled up to the designated car rental line and the rep did her check of the car and emailed me the Rental Agreement. In and out in less than 5 mins for drop off. read more

Alamo rental car has been good to me over the years when I rent from them. They consistently provide good service and quality cars. Depending on where you rent from, prices can get expensive. My travels brought me here to Knoxville, Tennessee and I flew into McGee-Tyson Knoxville regional airport on a Wednesday in March 2019. I reserved the car on Priceline.com a couple of months before arrival. Once I got here, they have my car right away. I was able to handle everything under 15 minutes at the rental car counter inside the airport terminal before proceeding to the rental car garage to pick up the car. One thing that the Alamo agent brought up was the secondary identification policy that Alamo / National / Enterprise had adopted recently. I was told that it was to deter identity theft. I was thankful that I had another form of ID with me, my Global Entry card to satisfy that requirement. On this experience with Alamo rental car though, I bought the collision damage waiver and roadside assistance. However, during the course of my rental experience, that wasn't enough coverage. Lesson learned. The overall experience with Alamo rental car was cool and nice. Good customer service and the piece of mind that came with purchasing the collision damage waiver. I did enjoy driving the 2018 Nissan Sentra. It had only 2,000 miles on it at the time. I returned the car with a full tank of gas and hopped on the airplane. The rental process was quick and I didn't have to exit to a booth where they check driver's license and rental agreement before leaving the premises. The return process was quick and painless. With that said, car rental prices have crept up over the years. I remember seeing prices as low as $15 to $20/day on third party websites, but it seems to be averaging $35+ depending on time of year and destination. I guess it's the increased costs of doing business nowadays. They check your driver's license and ask for a major credit card. They often ask if you want to prepay for gas or bring it back full. Often times, you save money by bringing it back full. Then again, it just depends on how much you drive anyway. For the most part though, it is a quite a downer, disappointing rental experience for me. Incidents happen and I realize that. As mentioned before, lesson definitely learned and I will purchase the liability insurance each time I rent going forward - regardless of car company I decide on choosing. The service at pick up was good and friendly. The return process was also good and friendly. After this experience with Alamo rental car, I will still rent with them, as need arises. I would definitely recommend Alamo rental car to anyone and everyone, if they need wheels for their vacation or work trips in the Knoxville Tennessee area and the surrounding areas you need to be. I had a terrible experience at this location. I am an Alamo insider and frequently rent cars from your company. I reserved a car several days ago for this weekend - my husband and I flew from our home in South Carolina to attend a family reunion in Tennessee. When I went to the Alamo counter in Knoxville, I was asked for my driver's license and credit card - standard stuff. I was then told I had to provide another form of ID such as a medical insurance card. I didn't have my medical insurance card with me, but I did have several credit cards, etc. At that point, I was told I wouldn't be able to receive a car unless I produced another form of ID. I asked why and was told this is a new regional policy to "prevent fraud." I offered a prescription bottle with my name on it, multiple credit cards and even my boarding passes from Delta. I was told none of that would work - but that a business card would (which I didn't have with me). Let the ridiculousness of that sink in - my government-issued driver's license and my airline boarding pass weren't acceptable. But a business card - which anyone with a color printer can produce - would have been OK. To make matters worse, Todd, the customer service agent, was incredibly rude and demeaning. He told me he had all the power and didn't have to rent me a car. His tone and body language made me uncomfortable being in close physical proximity to him. The manager, Michael, finally came out and reiterated I could not have a car because of this regional "policy." I pointed out the policy was not posted anywhere on the website when I reserved the car. I was then told it's a "secret policy" - it's not advertised, presumably so master criminals like this 46-year-old woman heading to a family reunion can't cause criminal mischief. I asked Michael what I was supposed to do without a car since I needed to get to my family reunion. He literally told me I should walk down to the next counter and rent a car from Hertz. Which is exactly what I ended up doing. The Hertz agent was everything Todd wasn't - friendly and professional. She even honored the rental rate I had with Alamo. Let me assure you I will not rent from Alamo again. This consumer has way too many options to stay with a company that treated me so poorly. read more

I have rented from them via Priceline several times and while they, like all rental companies try to push all the add-ons (CDW that most credit cards cover automatically if you use them as your deposit, pre-paid gas that is overpriced, etc), they snuck one by me this time. My wife was added as an additional driver for $11/day which DOUBLED the cost of my rental. Had it been made apparent that this was being done and a fee would apply, I would not have done it. My advice to renters is to rent an economy level vehicle through Priceline, because you'll always get bumped up at least one size level (they offered an SUV) if you get this company, beware of the additional fees. read more

UPDATE 4/17/17---After speaking with several representatives at Alamo, all bills to my account were dropped. I have amended this review from one star to three--I am glad that Alamo was able to respond to my concerns, but this incident should have never happened in the first place. PREVIOUS REVIEW: I have been charged with a $300+ repair for body damage that was on the vehicle before I rented it. I originally had a good impression of this branch of Alamo. The desk worker was friendly, and we got a free upgrade to an SUV. When I went to the garage to pick up the vehicle, I noticed a large scratch on the hood. However, no staff is kept in the garage. At other airports, someone is with you to check the paperwork and inspect the vehicle during the hand-off. Apparently, that practice is not followed in Knoxville. No one checked with me about vehicle damage, and I drove off the lot. A month after returning the car, I received a bill for over $300. They charged me for an entire new hood. Again, the damage was present when I first rented the vehicle. Do not under any circumstances rent from this company. read more

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!! Arrived at Knoxville airport from Florida, with my Alamo reservation in hand. Handed the girl at the counter my reservation confirmation, photo drivers license, car insurance card, and Chase Visa card. Because my card had the chip pulled out (to prevent thieves who scan your purse to retrieve credit card info from chip), they refused to rent me a car. REFUSED! Their reasoning, "We've had lots of credit card fraud." YET - they had my PHOTO ID, insurance card, and reservation paperwork. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY, but I guess that's not their "policy." I was STRANDED at the Knoxville airport, and said, "I have to have a car!" The counter girl, and the "so called" manager both said, "We can call you a taxi -- that's all we can do for you." So I walked over to the Enterprise desk. They rented me a car. Oh, and when I saw the original reservation charge on my credit card bill, Alamo claimed I never showed up!!! Glad I saved the copy of my Enterprise rental agreement, which was for more than the original Alamo reservation through Hotwire, so quite obviously I DID "show up." Thus the bottom line is this --- Alamo will happily leave you stranded, then LIE about it. But Enterprise will come to your rescue. read more

I reserved this Alamo rental car when I booked my flight through Allegiant Air. In the booking process they asked if I needed a rental, and figuring I would get some sort of deal by booking the flight and the car together I obliged. When I was booking everything the car was sort of the last thing on my mind, and knowing that we had to drive from the Knoxville airport (with this Alamo is located) to Nashville I just picked the smallest car thinking about gas mileage. We landed at the Knoxville airport around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. I sent my boyfriend over to the luggage carousel while I headed over to the rental car counter. Being a small airport the two are very close to each other, and since it seemed everyone headed for the luggage first, I was immediately helped at the Alamo counter. The man who helped me was incredibly friendly. To look up my reservation all he needed was my driver's license. I had been somewhat apprehensive about doing the booking through Allegiant Airline's reservation system because sometimes a middle man can just cause issues, but my pulling up my reservation was no problem whatsoever. At this point the man at the counter asked me a little bit about what I was doing in Knoxville as he pulled up my reservation. When I explained to him that I would be headed to Gatlinburg for a mountain cabin vacation he quickly upgraded my car choice at no charge. I had chosen the smallest economy car, but he assured me that getting to a mountain cabin in that sized car while it may be possible wouldn't be the best situation, so instead he outfitted me with the Jeep Patriot. I was very impressed with this customer service. The friendliness and the interest in my safety and making the vacation as easy as possible made the service here five stars for sure. The transaction was very easy. I had to sign and initial some paperwork and my drivers license and credit card were put on file. I was happy to find that the representative did not pressure me into any sort of extra insurance coverage. For the most part when it comes to rental cars we are all over insured as anything from your own personal car insurance, to the credit card you put the rental on will cover it. It was recommended that if I was planning on using the entire tank of gas that I purchase it from Alamo as their rates were a few cents lower than the surrounding area. Since I knew we would use at least a full tank I decided to go with this option. What I paid ($1.80 a gallon) was cheaper than almost all of the other gas stations we encountered in our travels, but also the piece of mind that I didn't have to worry about returning the tank full was nice as well. After spending less than ten minutes total renting the car I was headed out to the garage where the cars were parked after being given detailed directions about the car's location and how to get there. We were able to find the car easily and were on our way. The only reason I removed a star from this review was that the car itself was a little less fancy than I have rented from other car rental agencies in the past. This one did not have satellite radio, or bluetooth...only an auxiliary audio option. It also did not have USB ports, so phone charging required the car jack (for the cigarette thingy). After five days with the car we returned to the Knoxville airport and parked it in one of Alamo's spots in the garage. I handed the keys back to the same counter I got them from (which is an easy stop on your way to the gates, this was a two second transaction) and later my credit card charges were exactly what I was quoted at pickup. Overall I think this is one of the best rental car experiences that I have had. Yes, the car was a little bit older, but the staff was so friendly and helpful, and the prices were so reasonable, that I wouldn't hesitate to rent here again. read more

This was my second time renting at this location. I have rented with Alamo for many years, but this will be my last time. I reserved an F-150 weeks ahead of time, I have rental homes that I renovate about an hour outside of Knoxville. When I got to the counter I was told all they had left was one mini van. I explained my situation and the the lady, very rudely said "take it or leave it". I said well at this point I have no other choice other than take it. She then stated, "Yes you do, you could go somewhere else." It was 1130pm on a Thursday night. As I drove off in the mini van, with 3/4 tank of gas (pre paid for the full tank), I called customer service and explained the situation. I was told I would get a call the next day. I ended up having to rent, then ended up buying a truck to haul my drywall, plywood, paint and other building materials. 9 days into my 10 day trip I received a call from the manager telling me I could come switch out the van for the truck. I explained I was over an hour away and had to turn it in the next day. As I was speaking he said "Yea I get it its too late, have a good one" and hung up on me mid sentence. I now pay for storage by the airport so I will never have to deal with this again. I have never had an issue with any other Alamo in other cities, but this one is horribly run. read more

Alamo thanked me for a detailed explanation of my experience saying that they talked to all parties involved and will use my experience as a teaching moment. I've been contacted by businesses for reviews in the past but never had this level of follow-up to ensure it doesn't happen again. The regional manager sent me a personal email and I can contact him directly on my next travel to Knoxville. I appreciate the apology and the personal touch. It's a step in the right direction for a company that not only talks the talk but walks the walk. It was unusual to have such a poor experience because I've used Alamo in the past, and now hopefully I can feel assured using them again. read more

I went the counter to pick up my rental car in Knoxville, Tn., Tys airport, this afternoon. I was offered insurance coverage for my vehicle at $25/day. I told the agent that I thought the fee was exorbitant since the cost was greater than the fee for the car rental itself. I needed the car, so I paid for the insurance. I checked online to see what Alamo charged and the fee was $9/day, which is what I was anticipating. I called the Alamo service number and she told be that because I booked the car through Costco, that the rate was $25/day for the same coverage as the Alamo site at $9/day. She didn't offer me any rational for the difference price for the same service. She did take my complaint. Beware read more

Normally I would rate Alamo a 4 or 5 star but not this trip. I checked in online in hopes of picking up the car a little bit quicker. I arrived at the counter and there was one lady speaking to the agent. She promptly left and the agent told me it would be a min. After a couple min I told her I had checked in online and if I could go ahead and get the car. She told me the other agent was away and she needed to wait for this other woman's husband to come and bring her his drivers license. Not sure why she couldn't use the other computer to help me, so we both stood there waiting for approx. 5 min. Another agent came back and helped me. However, I had to go through the entire practice of getting the car despite the fact I checked in online. No, it's not a terrible thing but I was on limited time and was hoping the process would have been faster and the agents a bit more competent. I felt it was ridiculous this agent and I just stood at the counter literally waiting for another customer to bring his id. She should have been capable of helping me while waiting for him to return. If Alamo does read this, you may also want to know you lost a customer. A lady and her companion arrived to pick up their car, she was the driver and he was going to pay. The agent told them she could only rent the car if the driver had the same name as the credit card holder. They went back and forth for a bit and finally left and rented from your competitor. The car was clean and the return was friendly and easy. I will definitely rent again from Alamo as I know this was just a little hiccup. read more
