The best place in Denton to see a movie, with decent food and beer. As with all theaters, everything is a bit pricey. Cool seasonal / rotating / special event menus so there's always something new. The folks who work here are great, but there are never (and I do mean NEVER) enough of them. My favorite terrible example is that there is always just one bartender on duty every Monday when the bar is always completely full for trivia. 17-20 teams, each team with multiple people, ordering drinks and food for more than two hours... and there's one person working. The in-theater waits are equally rough, and they still close you out early, which means the servers disappear about halfway into the film. Note that tips are added automatically. A fair practice but a good thing to keep in mind! read more

The new phone policy for ordering food and drink items is openly inviting people to use their phones during the film. They say their theaters are a no talking zones and to flag a manger, but when people talk throughout the movie they do nothing or simply don't show up...leaving you to tell another guest to please stop being disruptive. Also, for overpriced thickets you'd think the seats wouldn't be actively peeling, yet here we are. read more

Before I lost the negatives, here are some positives unique to the Alamo. -Music video of Weird Al's Jurassic Park -Retro ads of Jurassic Park toys from the 90s -Jurassic Park-specific PSA The seat design at this Alamo theater is not user-friendly. Unlike other dine-in theater chains or other Alamo locations, there is no individual tray that can be rotated closer to your seat. Instead, every two seats share a communal tray, and the glass holder is located at the far corners. In addition to adjusting my seat to its upright position, I had to lean forward toward the tray to eat my food. Every time I wanted to grab my drink or place it in the cup holder, I had to lean forward each time. Unlike a different Alamo location, this one does not have a button to signal staff. I am not sure how often staff walk the rows, blocking the audience view, to check for new orders. The service at this theater is lacking. The staff require additional training, especially for the standard 18% gratuity. During the movie, an employee did a walk-by and dropped off someone else's soda refill. How long did that customer wait to realize the refill was not coming? Another time, staff almost delivered my dessert order to a nearby table. When I flagged him, he apologized to them but not to me. He then misidentified the items, so I had to switch with my guest after we took a bite. No additional napkins were provided with the dessert. Due to the napkin shortage, customers need to ration the two napkins given with the entree. read more

QR system is terrible. Gift cards are not accepted for food, must use credit card, and wait to be credited back. Apparently you must use your phone app for server, yet you are prohibited from using your phone during the film. 18% service charge, plus penalty if you don't close out your ticket within twenty minutes of end of film. OMG. What a terrible experience. We went with a group of friends for dinner and a movie. The dinner part was fine, not great, not better than fast food, but fine. Service was pretty slow and the servers seemed to manage to not disturb viewing the movie. But, we were mostly there for the movie, and that is where it became an intolerable, miserable experience. First of all, it is freezing in there. We had not been before, so we did not show up with heavy blankets for everyone like so many in attendance did. Shouldn't that be a hint for the management? When the previews were showing it was pretty loud, but not nearly as loud as it was about to get. Also, the screen seems to have some kind of light delay to it that made focus hard when there was a lot going on. When the movie started, the volume went up to such an extreme decibel level that I put fingers in my ears and it still felt like everything was screaming at me. It was inexcusable, insufferable and I would wager it was even dangerous to hearing. I lasted about 20 minutes and got up and left. Because we were with friends and they were driving, I sat in the lobby and pulled up a book on my phone and read for the rest of the evening. When the rest of my group was finally leaving they agreed that the volume level was irresponsible and the temperature just rude. Several said they wished they had had my nerve to just get up and leave. I will never ever ever ever ever set foot in that place again. read more

This place has so much potential. Cool vibe in general, from decor and ads they run, that alone is very cool. I wasn't one of the people who set out to hate on their switch to mobile ordering, but their implementation of this is terrible. You do not get cell service in the theater (that we were in) and their WiFi absolutely does not work. Us and everyone around had to use their paper system, but that is being a little overlooked or something. Put a paper up and it didn't get picked up for over 10 minutes before movie started. Waiter walked by it twice and with mobile not working we felt panicked to get it in before movie started. At one point we were trying to put in mobile order while waiting on paper to get taken and we got mobile service for a few seconds but couldn't submit and got an error message. Their whole plan for this seems like a failure. They advertise with ads their mobile ordering and before movie starts they put out a harsh message about putting phones up or get kicked out lol. And they also said in the message that mobile ordering is now off and paper during movie. Lol what. Tickets are more money than other theaters, even other dinner theaters and cocktails are $15 plus. Still enjoyed our experience overall, but it took 30 minutes total to get order in. Tickets, one app, two entrees, one dessert and we spent a little under $200. They put a 18 percent automatic tip and fold the ticket to just show tip and total on your ticket. They do run an ad about the 18 percent tip so it's not completely predatory, but beware. We always tip 20-25 percent so I get a little turned off about a party of 2 getting mandatory tipped. Not a ton of incentive for servers to earn much more. read more

You write down what you want on a little card and then someone brings it to you 60 minutes later and charges you an 18% gratuity. Then 20 minutes before your movie ends you get a text that says they'll charge you another 5% if you don't close your tab before you drive home. Absolutely wild business model. The Denton Alamo is the first one I've visited outside of SF. It's a very different experience, more like a regular theater than I expected, but still a great place to watch a film. I was in theater 1, which was stadium style seating with very plush, reclining seats. This was very much like big chain theaters I've been to. Fortunately, this was minus all of the annoying advertisements that come with those theaters and instead Alamo's fun intro shorts. Food and drink, of course, were on point with the usual Alamo selections. The vegan cauliflower with the gochujang sauce were stellar and there were many good beer selections available. Service was incredibly fast but perhaps due to the fact that I was at an 11:45am showing on a weekday. Still, I appreciated the friendly and helpful service when inquiring about seasonal draft selections. Enjoy the film! read more

The cinema and food delivery in concept was nice, the execution was poor. First, I ordered my tickets online but never received an email confirmation so I had to get tickets printed from the "front desk". When we found out seats (confusing as they didn't match the numbers, some coding system) finally, the server did promptly greet us and took our order. We mentioned that it was our first time at Alamo Cinema. We received our drinks quickly (thank goodness I asked for water as well) and the server brought my burger shortly after that. While waiting for my husband's food order we both ate my moderately warm fries, closer to room temp. Again, glad I didn't wait for his food since I can't stand cold fries. My husband's 3 chicken tenders and fries arrived next. We noticed that our neighbors (both sets to each side of us) had received their popcorn very early in their service. So we waited a little more thinking maybe we just have to be patient. I finally got up to go find someone to ask about our popcorn order. There was a nice gentleman in the hall who noticed me looking around and offered assistance. I explained that we had ordered popcorn and had not received it yet. He asked about the seat number and looked in his computer and stated at it showed that we had already received it. I explained that maybe it went to one of neighbors since they were served much earlier. After another seemingly long wait, we received the popcorn (also about room temp) Overall, if it weren't for a very good movie, the experience would have been a disaster for $119. Yes, tickets (online order with convenience fee and no email was $27 for matinee), 13-15 per drink, 13 popcorn, 13-15 per entree) Really not worth it for a first experience. My husband had suggested to go Cinemark but I convinced him that we should go to a more local place and eat lunch at the same time. Bad choice on my part. Oh well. read more

Took the family out to see the new avatar. The facility looks great. However the food and the service was awful. You buy bottomless items but can't get anyone to refill. I know you pay for the convenience of dinner and a show which make it more fine but have good service. Our waitress was the worst. Rude, never been there before and took her an hour to come pick up the ticket just to get the refills for our drinks. Told everyone to put up there ticket maybe to hurry the process and then when we had 30 mins left of the movie they delivered 3 sets of the drinks. I hate writing this review but we don't know how else to express our incredible disappointment in one of Alamos newer desserts. My husband and I have an Alamo season pass and we just went to see a new movie and ordered the "Tony's chocolate lil' bits" and the audacity of Alamo baffles me. It is package candy similar to whoppers. It's $8 for a package of candy where as you can get a plate of warm chocolate cookies for $9. The description is so miss leading. I honestly don't even know what they were thinking adding this to a dessert menu. It's simply mind blowing. Overall don't waste your money on a bag of cheap candy listed as a dessert. read more

There are movie theaters, and then there's Alamo Drafthouse. This is the vibiest movie these in the history of ever. The food options are plentiful and unique but for me, the star of the show is the bottomless popcorn with REAL butter along with the bottomless sodas. The staff is ready to serve and the seats recline so you're nice and comfy while watching your movie. Also, they have special screenings and sing-a-longs that are pretty cool as well but it's Master Pancake Theater that sets this place apart from every theater. I have been here a lot and I still take the family here. First I go here for the movies because I love the seating here. Nice big reclining chairs with little tables for your drinks and food. The other thing is the food. Their kitchen is pretty good. Popcorn and drinks and your typical snacks like pretzels which are great. But you can also get burgers and pizza or salads. I never had anything bad. It's my favorite cinema that's serves food hands down. It's also pretty clean. You rarely will see dirty popcorn covered floors like you do T a lot of cinemas. We tend to go see movies when it's not busy to avoid the crowds and really enjoy going here. Parking is great and easy. Absolutely love going here. read more

I just had the absolute worst movie-going experience of my life! Sitting in row 8 at this evening's 6:45 pm performance of Running Man, a couple sat next to me that literally talked throughout the entire show. I complained once, and I believe they received a warning, which did not deter them at all. I complained again. My note said, "They are still talking!!!" And when the so-called manager came by to collect my note, they were talking within his earshot and they were still allowed to remain. They continued to talk throughout the entire movie. Alamo represents to its customers that talking will not be tolerated. Yet, when I complained after the movie to the front desk about the couple and non-response to my complaints during the movie and requested to speak to the manager, the employee at the front desk told me that the new policy is that the talkers must be caught talking before they are ejected. Well that has never been disclosed to customers, and it should be. If that is the current policy, then Alamo's representation that talking will not be tolerated is in fact misleading at best. When the manager finally came out, he had the nerve to tell me that he thought that was the first warning. What about my note that "They are still talking!!!" would have made a reasonable person infer that this was the first time staff was notified of the problem? Avoid this theater. read more

A bit disappointed. Spent $35 for two tickets for a 7pm Monday movie. The seats did not have warmers or a server button. But they did have funky, scratched up head rests. And it was super cold in the theater. We had to wait until the server came around for help. Seems the buttons are a bit more efficient but this theater didn't offer those. A burger was $19 not including drink. S'why u see tha water!! And portions were so small for the price. So around $80 total for two. We'll stay home and order off Amazon from now on. Coulda bought a new release and gotten decent take out for $60... and stayed under the blankets in our tempurpedic!! I did like the quiet policies so few kids. read more

First time back since the pandemic began! We bought tickets online which made checking in easy. You don't have to worry about someone taking your seat because the servers double check. It was roughly $33 with tax for two adults tickets which I personally find a bit pricy as well as some menu items ($6 for soda). It seems like there's some sort of rewards program the more you go so looking forward to checking that out. I love the service system where you write your order on a card and the server will come grab it. If paying with card, they get it upfront and then bring you the check near the end of the movie. This was my first time trying the Herb Parmesan Popcorn and I'm definitely getting again. The popcorn was bottomless and not overly salty. I loved that for The Batman, they had special menu items. They do emphasis no talking and cellphone use so folks can enjoy. The seats are comfy and recline. They are paired two to a small table with a slight arm rest between the seats. read more

However, they have a front desk person who..., well, one time she told me I couldn't go back to our theater even after I said I was going to the restroom. Today, I told her we had tickets but they weren't coming up. She just kept telling me to show them to my server. No matter that I was showing her the error I was getting. I have a season pass and have been going to Alamo Drafthouse for years now, I live near the Denton location. Many of the bad reviews on Yelp of Alamo Drafthouse are just people complaining that they got called out for not following the rules of the theater. If there is any confusion about what the rules of the theater are, just tune into one of the many on-screen announcements that play before the movie begins. Here you will find information on how the order card system works as well as the talking and phone usage policy during the show. As someone that mainly comes to see the movie, it is very annoying when people talk and pull out their phones during the show. Be respectful to those around you and step out of the theater if you need to use your phone. If you are looking for a place to chat with a friend, Alamo Drafthouse (or any theater for that matter) is not the place. One thing I really appreciate about Alamo is that they WILL kick those people out. Sounds mean sorry, but don't ruin everyone's experience by talking and texting. Me and my wife went to this Drafthouse and was impressed with the scale. It felt like a house for movies especially with the recliners as our seats. Me and my friend who I had not seen in 6 months, went to see The Creator on Sat Sept 30 2023 at 6:55pm, we were sitting on Row 5 , seats 13 and 14. We had drinks before the movie and I gave I your business my hard earned money. During the movie I looked at my phone maybe 1 or 2 mins, as I was pulling up details about the movie. I think the guy sitting on seat 15 and 16 complained about my phone, and the staff came over to tell me to put it I away, which I did. Then some girl with ridiculous bunny ears told us that we should be quiet, as if it was the last warning and some other guy came over a few mins later to kick us out. We paid the check and walked out. This is the first time me and my friend were kicked out of a movie theater, I truly feel we were both targeted to speaking spanish and me being a black female, and Denton is a very racist and woke Texas town. I will never go to any Alamo draft houses, I will use social medial to talk about my experience and tell all my friends to to go there. Even my friend, who has gone to the San Antonio location, multiple times said he was surprised of how we were treated. I don't feel the staff gave us enough warning about our behavior, if it was the phone or us whispering to each other that caused us being kicked out. I finally made a visit here to see a movie. The movie time was at 4:15pm so it wasn't too busy. The theater was clean and roomy. The chairs recline back, but not like other ones I've been to. The other ones I've been to their chairs recline back more. This isn't a deal breaker just a comparison. The food was very good! I'd go back for the food if I wanted to eat a meal at the movies. Usually movie food isn't the best, but I was very impressed with the food. I had the fish and chips. The fish was very crispy and the tartar sauce just made it better! Fries were average. The meal was $13; food was fresh and fast. Also had a glass of white wine that was $8. Just a note on how to order food: you'll need to write your order down and place it upright in the card holder for the waiters to see. They will explain how the process is if you have never been there before. Also another note: there is a not talking, on the phone, or late to the movie rule. You'll get one warning and then thereafter you get "ejected" is the word used. I get it I don't want people talking in the theater, etc., but kind of keeps you on edge if anyone happens to whisper to each other. 4 stars was for the lack of movie options to see compared to other dine-in theaters. read more

Decide to give Alamo Drafthouse another try and the sound sounded a whole lot better this time around.

Love the decor. Cool place to sit and hang. Nice garage doors open up to the patio on cool nights. Not sure if they have smaller theaters but we were in a theater worth only 5 rows. Not an issue though. Drinks were weak. Was happy to see the offered adult milkshakes. Kids meals are also available. The popcorn bowl is gigantic and I liked the popcorn flavor. Chairs are comfy. Bathrooms were nice and very clean. My biggest issue was the order method. Here you write your order down and place your paper up. I get how this reduces conversation and noise but I just feel is archaic and ineffective seeing how they messed up my husband's salad. Why not have an app? Also there is no way to signal the wait staff since they don't use buttons /lights. I would go again. The food was good. We had a Greek said with beef, breakfast tacos, kids pizza ands cookies. read more

This is our favorite theater. They require customers to be quiet in movies. It's not a teenager daycare like Cinemark. The atmosphere is clean and inviting. The staff is fantastic. The only negative is the food & drink pricing, and its a big negative (reason for 3 stars). I expect theater food to be overpriced, but Alamo prices are absolutely absurd. A glass of soda or tea is $7, a 10 inch personal pizza is $16, a sandwich is $17. The food is actually pretty good, but it's overpriced for what it is. The churro popcorn is delicious! read more

This is a really comfortable theater to see a movie in. At this point, I appreciate smaller theaters with seats that are bigger and farther apart. Our server was friendly and attentive. I am certainly no expert on technology, but we saw Elvis and the picture quality and sound seemed really good. They do have some domestic beers in cans or bottles but the draft beers are (I think) all craft. We did not try any food here this time, but I won't shy away anymore from choosing this theater and will leave a food review if I do. read more

Alamo Drafthouse is always great. I try to only go to Alamo because no other theater has no talking policies which is lame because everyone has just become so rude these days and they'll talk through the whole movie. A movie theater is not your house or a bar. Don't talk. Our server Cambria was the best. My nephew dropped his cell phone between the recliner sears just as the movie started and she was right on top of it and saved the day. Thank you. First theater I've been to since lockdown and I was not disappointed. Friendly staff, great food, fellow viewers were well behaved. Bathrooms were nice and clean. The tickets are pricey but they have season passes for movie goers and for the peace of mind that your getting the "white glove service" of movie theaters it's worth it. read more

I never review places, but tonight's experience was awful. I should have known not to go in or stay seeing that there were only a handful of cars in the parking lot. There are so many ways I could describe how awful the food, service, and overall experience went. All I will say is that if you want to go to a place where you not only spend $47 for 3 people, 1 of which is a child, to watch a movie than this is your place. If you would also like to have two appetizers + popcorn and a few drinks and spend another $150 before tip.... You'll love this place even more. My soda was flat, the $15 wine pours are only 6 ounces, and when I told them the dirty martini was too dirty they added more olive juice. Good times read more

I come to this theater every time they show the Denton UNT football games. Such a great idea to show away games on the big screen. They have a UNT appetizer special and some beer specials for this very occasion. You have to get your tickets early because the good seats fill up fast. This is the best Cinema here in Denton. Happy hour food menu until 6pm. They even offer vegan items on the menu. The vegan buffalo cauliflower with vegan ranch sauce was amazing. I'm a pizza snob, I have to say that the Brussel sprout, bacon, goat cheese pizza was simply out of this world. Best cinema in Denton IMO. Staff are great, and the theatre's no disturbance rules are a godsend. Audio/Video have always been on point. Food actually tastes like it's made by a real person, and not from Applebee's like SMGrill/MTavern do. A little Pricey (Movie Date Food + Drinks will cost you around $75-150 depending on what you order or what kind of movie it is.) They have a ton of events and special showings. The seats are comfy and recline pretty far back. Tuesdays are cheap night, I might try going to more Tuesday shows in the future just because I love this cinema. read more

We arrived 30 minutes prior to our movie and set up at the bar. They have little splits of prosecco so that is what I started with. They also have a great selection of craft brews on tap - or in cans, depending on what you're after. As soon as we could go to our movie, we strolled down the hall, resplendent in old movie posters and fun. As we found our seats, the fun classic movies that were playing were just hilarious and fun. As someone mentioned, no commercials - yay! Having never been before, we ordered a lot of food, starting with the truffle parmesan popcorn. The bowl comes out, lapsize pretty much, and as we munched away, I worried about what to do with it when we got the rest of the food. It was delicious and worth the extra money but I love truffle so... My hubby then ordered extra hot wings (not spicy and not tempurature hot) but we were too impatient to send it back, besides, they were crispy and that's good enough for me. He ordered a meat pizza, personal sized, and I ordered the buffalo cauliflower. I didn't try the pizza, he said it was messy. And, the cauliflower was ok. I think I can just live off the popcorn. We also ended up splitting a pitcher of Local Buzz and that was amazing. The theater is new, clean and does have a bit to offer! Try it, it's not a bad place at all to catch a flick! read more
