I cannot write our whole yellowjacket saga here but suffice it to say after two rounds of private treatment of our very serious yellowjacket nest that did not fully remediate the issue ONLY treatment by Vector Control finally brought the epic week of wasp drama to a close. My waspy kingdom to Beya (Bella? Sp?) for bringing the drama to a close and studying our crazy winged friends flightpaths before dusting their subterranean lair. It was a fascinating process to watch and I've never been so happy to see someone in a bee suit in my life. He came in, looked around, gave a couple of hints as to how to block the rats coming in to the crawlspace how to avoid mice getting into the house, which areas to focus and so on. He doesn't help you fix the problem, but he gives you tips on how to fix the problem. read more

After calling them, I followed there instructions and didn't receive a call back till after a week when they should have called in two business days as mentioned. I called and someone transferred me to someone and waiting over 20 mins or nothing. I called back literally 20 times and same lady that transferred the call, hung up the phone on me. I called almost 20 times every time I call she sends it to voicemail. I'm not here playing games I need someone to help us with raccoon, possum, and rat issue we have. I do not know the name of the worker that did this, but occurred on (4:15PM-5:00 PM on a Tuesday at September 19th 2017). I hope she gets fired people like that shouldn't be at these types of positions where people need there help. read more

He performed a complete inspection - including getting dirty in the crawl spaces. He made recommendations and even gave me some wire mesh to start the repairs. So yesterday my hon of hons husband called me with the news that a large skunk is caught in our wire deer fence in the back forty. Somehow it wedged itself halfway through one of the openings, which measure about 4" x 2". He called the City of Oakland's main number, and they referred him to Vector Control, which referred him to Animal Control. AC told him they'd be out in a couple of hours to assess the situation. Meanwhile, poor skunky was still trapped and in the hot sun, so my HOHH gave it some water. How nice is that? And the wonderful person came from Animal Control around 3PM, threw a blanket over the skunk's rear, my HOHH cut the fence with some bolt cutters and skunky scampered off, none the worse for wear. Yay to my HOHH and the City of Oakland's fabulous Animal Control Department! And yeah, the blanket was to catch the spray. They both got mildly skunked anyway.... read more

I called and left a message saying I have either raccoons or opossums under my house and could they help to get them out. They called back TWO WEEKS later. I needed the service immediately because I could hear the raccoons or opossums biting through some stuff under the house and who knows if they had rabbies or other diseases that could have infected us. What kind of service is that? I don't know why the other people who posted got what seemed like actual service, but I didn't. If my tax dollars are being used for this, I want a refund. I ended up buying my own trap and catching them and relocated them. They say on their website I'm supposed to call a professional to do this but since I did and no one responded I had to do what I had to do. If vector control looks down on this then they should have done their jobs. read more

Great service! A real God-sent! When we discovered that we had a skunk in our crawl space, we did not know what to do. Our neighbor suggested we call Alameda County Vector Control Services, after our calling several other places did not net us any help. Michael came up to our house the next day after we called and identified the skunk as a one-year old female from the trail cam pictures. The following day he brought a one-way door to put on our crawl space vent. After recording that the skunk had left the crawl space, we dismantled the one-way door and sealed the crawl space vent. Michael even checked the crawl space as well as the attic to make sure we had no critters. I learned a lot from him about how critters enter the house. I installed a motion sensor light above the sealed crawl space vent, and that seems to work in scaring the skunk away from hanging out around the house. Several years ago I had a very large yellow jacket nest living in the ground under my bushes. I tried to get rid of them but the nest grew and eventually they were swarming. I called Jeff at Alameda Vector Control. He and his colleague were very polite, professional and ....shocked! It was a huge nest. After several trips the nest was gone. I have been watching another nest growing near the same spot again- and I am fortunate that I can contact AVC knowing they will be responsive and eliminate the nest. I cannot believe that I am cheer leading for a free county service but yes, here goes. Alameda County Vector Control came to my house and found the largest Norwegian Sewer Rat and removed it from my home this morning. I have spent the past month trying to find the varmint's location which produced flies and the worst smell ever. Of course, they discovered it in five minutes of being in my basement. They were incredibly thorough and courteous, gave me free traps and the best part will come out again to retrieve any other rats that might fall prey to the peanut butter traps that I lay out. Oh and did I mention that they are FREE. Tine is the man and I found out that our property taxes do go to pay for this service so its not technically free:) But I have added it to my company (Red Oak Realty's) resource guide. read more

Probably one of the best uses of our tax dollars! I have a rat problem and called a pest control company for an estimate. It was much higher than I expected (or have to spend) so I called Alameda County Vector Control to get more information. As others have noted, there's no direct line to the biologists, so you need to leave a message, but within a few days one called me back, scheduled a time to come by and did a thorough inspection of my property, finding many more entry points the pest company did not see. They told me how to seal it up myself, left me with several rat traps and lots of information on how to continue to evaluate the situation. They said they'd call in a couple weeks to check in. Called them on Monday regarding a rodent issue,they called me back on Friday..John Sutton contacted me and fixed a time. He also called me when he was 10 mins away..he was awesome! He checked the house,told me about possible entryways, told me how I should go about taking care of the problem...he even left some traps with for me to put out at night. He also said he would come back the next week with more traps. He did say they were swamped with calls and that's why it took them a while to get back..but once here,he did an awesome job..gave lot of informative knowledge. I had a mysterious clicking/scraping noise in my attic, and David came out right away to investigate. He examined the perimeter of my house, peered into the attic, climbed up a ladder to the roof, and couldn't find any critters. He gave me his card and a pamphlet on local disease-carrying pests (ie. "vectors") and how to prevent them. Well, a few days later, we solved the problem ourselves (it turned out that it was just some kind of book shelf rattling due to the trains rumbling across the bay, but I swear it sounded like a woodpecker). However, to David's credit, he did call me a few weeks later to follow up and see if I needed any help or another visit. Hoping I'll never need to use these guys again, I still recommend them highly for those who do, and now I know what a vector is! read more
