They didn't ask my pronouns while fingerprinting me. Freezing cold and baloney sandwiches everywhere.

Ha! I found Dr. Marek. I know a few people in corrections, a couple of them prison psychs. One…read moretaught Criminal Justice classes, and she had me in to speak to her classes. They both told me they would love to hear they did something good for someone. This is how the conversation went: He answered. I said, "Dr, Marek?" "Who is calling?" "Dawn Lawson." "This is the CREEPIEST thing that has ever happened to me," he said. "Excuse me?" "Did I stutter?" he said. "What do you mean creepy?" "Miss Lawson. I did not respond to your letter. I did not respond to your email. Do not EVER, in ANY way, EVER try to get in touch with me again." I said, "I'm sorry," and hung up. So -- I just realized I don't even know what to say about this. I'll bet the art teacher would love to hear from me. Henry gave me color. I will always be grateful for that. Some people who work in corrections believe that once a person is an inmate, they should lose the privilege of ever believing themselves to be a human being, for good. I wrote a book called How to Rob a Bank in Drag (not really a how-to -- don't get all excited) and used his real name. My editor said "What would he sue you for? What part would he say is not true? He's not a creep?"

How do you rate a prison? Not sure but I am sure that the rating depends on which side of the…read morebars your on. This facility has three components. A women's prison, mens prison, and a minimal security women's camp. To see the women's prison, visitors enter through the front door, check in, and go through the metal detector. A visitation room is just on the right and you can visit a good part of the day. For the visitors though, this is as far as you go. For the prisoners, they pass the control room and enter what looks like a junior college campus. Many buildings spread out with open space. Just to the right is the chapel that serves all denominations. Just beyond that is a gym where the women take a variety of classes such as spinning or Zumba. It also has pottery workshop, a library, and a knitting/sewing room. There is also weight lifting available. An outdoor rec area includes tennis courts and a track. Beyond that are the main dorms. These are small rooms with 3 bunks. No bars on these rooms just a solid wooden door. No doors on the sink and toilet. Each of the dorms has television, an open area, and email access. There are also communal washing machines. There are opportunities for work. Kitchen, grounds, maintenance or a Unicor telephone facility. In this case, the women answer phones to handle magazine subscriptions. Pay is minimal and they can spend it at the commissary. For those with disciplinary problems, you get put into the SHU. This is a separate building where you are in isolation. You can get into a 10x30' fenced pen an hour a day five days a week. Otherwise you stay in your cell. Food is brought to you. The cells do have showers which you can use 3 x a week. There was a building for education classes. The women are required to work towards a GED. Some make it some don't. The grounds are open and plenty of space to walk around. The geese were all over the place and there were at least two resident cats. Don't try getting out though. A tall fence with electronic monitors and 11 strands of razor sharp barbed wire prevent that. I must admit that the facilities were better than expected. But not a place anyone wants to spend time at.

Adj: Retreat for Refreshing the Mind (and Body)!…read more On a sizzling hot summer day when it was nearly 100 even in East Bay, we were glad we were not in Sacramento as it was over 100 and climbing. We had escaped to the coast for the weekend, and spent Sunday night in Dublin so we decided to chill in a local library for part of the day on Monday before heading home. This is a REALLY nice library. I'm easily impressed by nicer public buildings. Our collective tax dollars at work, lol. In any case, this must be a newer building, but according to the City of Dublin, the original library "opened on May 21, 1914, in a small general store at Dublin Boulevard and Donlon Way. Over the decades, it expanded through various community locations before moving to its current 38,100-square-foot modern facility at the Dublin Civic Center in April 2003." So the current location is still over 20 years old, but you wouldn't think so by the looks of it, everything looked very new and well-kept. The lobby is big and welcoming w/library holds and an info-desk with friendly staff. Then there's a whole bunch of larger tables that sit 6-8 people each for reading and a couple rows of computers you can reserve even as a guest. The rest of the left side of the library are adult stacks of all genre, and the right side of the library, taking up almost 1/2 of the whole place was for the kids! It really was a big area w/a story-time reading and play cove towards the back, and then a bunch of shorter bookshelves filled with children's books and then several kids computers towards the children's librarian's desk. I'm glad I got to visit and hang out here for several hours and we even stayed and watched a couple of kids movies in the community room and my kids and I had a great time escaping reality at the library, haha.

A really nice library in the East Bay City of Dublin (not in Ireland, some people actually posted…read morepictures of Ireland about this library, haha), but it has a few cons. Pros: - It keeps its facility cool on the very hot days. - Parking is under solar panels that keep the vehicles cool. Nice that they're also generating energy. - Lots of books to stay entertained with knowledge. - this library is huge and has so many areas to sit and read, study, get work done etc. Cons: - Wi-Fi connection is very spotty at best. Not sure if that's the case often and an ongoing problem or if it's just bc of the heat maybe affecting the Wi-Fi. - not open on Fridays. All in all, a really big, well built and nicely maintained library that surely serves the community well.
