I have never had a problem getting an appointment or waiting too long at this office. The office staff have always been friendly and helpful and I cannot say they have ever pushed me to buy extra services. They have been very helpful with me when I was trying different contacts. I have always seen Dr. Brian Runda who is incredibly nice, professional and attentive. I never feel rushed and he always answers my questions. I like this office and I would return but I decided I would rather go to a practice that has ophthalmologists, should I have any serious eye issues in the future. read more

Scheduled an appointment for today at 11:40. I showed up ON TIME. I did not find the staff inviting nor helpful. Went to the first desk, told the girl i was there for an eye exam. She pointed at another desk. Went to that one and that girl pointed to a 3rd desk. There was 2 women, one young and one way older. The young one was polite and started getting the paperwork to check me in. The older woman seemed confused as to why I was there. I told her I had made an appointment. She kept looking at her computer confused and started saying I didn't respond to the "Texts" to confirm the appointment. I am 67 yrs old and don't like texting. I am also not in the habit of giving out my personal phone number. I did it once to a doctors office and they hammered my phone for 10 days with texts reminding me of the appointment. I now give out my work number that goes to an auto attendant. She kept belittling me about not confirming to texts, So I told her I would go elsewhere and left. Went here for a yearly checkup. Usually I'm in and out of one of these places within an hour tops. Not this place, they are very disorganized and had me do an eye test then go back to the waiting room three times. The last time I was stuck in the doctors office for 20 mins. It was mind numbing. I had enough time to notice the plethora of dust on the equipment, a mangled old bag shoved behind my chair, many paint chips in the walls, and just an overall sense of not caring for their office. Thankfully, the doctor was nice once I got to meet him. He was quick and professional. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, it was about 100 mins. They really need to focus on cleaning their office and making appointments efficient. read more

I gave two stars as the doctor Brian Runda is very knowledgable and professional. I recently had an annual eye exam with them and the sneaky staff constantly pushed me to purchase glasses and order contact lens while waiting, which is very annoying. They don't think of you as a patient but rather an ATM to extract money from. The worst part is they OVERCHARGE me for the contact lens compared to other places and not willing to compensate me for the difference. Even though they say they would change the contact lens if there are fitting problems, they would NOT give your money back once you ordered from them. TRY TO AVOID THIS PLACE if you want to be treated with respect and make your money worth. read more

Came to get an eye exam with the Doctor's office inside and not sure if I ever want to come back. My appointment was at 3:00 and it is now 5:40pm and I am still not done. They didn't call me back until after 4pm and then they dilated my eyes which only takes 30 minutes... it has now been over 45 minutes. I have somewhere to be really soon, so I'm going to have to leave and not finish the dilation process. I do not recommend coming here unless you have 3 hours to waste! Very nice people, but they need to figure out a way to not waste people's time!! Absolutely ridiculous. read more

I did not have a good experience here. I am giving it two stars because it is clean and no one yelled at me. Aside from that, which to me is absolute baseline for acceptable, I found this place to be no good. First of all, I found the receptionists (two in particular) to be rude and cold. Now, I am not a picky person. I don't often feel compelled to speak negatively about establishments unless my money was wasted or I was treated disrespectfully and/or like a number rather than a person. At Alafaya Vision Center, I was treated like a number. When I filled out my medical history questionnaire, I had several YES answers circled (vision blurring, itchy eyes, red eyes... things of that nature). Not a single one of them was addressed by the doctor in my evaluation. When the doctor decided she was finished with my assessment, I decided I would approach these issues myself. I am a registered nurse and unfortunately I know that sometimes it's the patient who has to be his or her own biggest advocate. When I told the doctor that my eyes got red, irritated, and dry nearly every time I wore my contact lenses, she said, "Yeah, that happens to some people." I was shocked-- almost into silence! I spoke up and asked her if she thought I would be a candidate for Restasis (a prescription eye drop for chronic dry eye) and she said, "Sure, I'll write the prescription." Easy as that. I am afraid for patients who might be quieter, less assertive, or less-informed than myself. Next, I was taken to the room where you try out your new contact lens prescription. I was given a pair and almost immediately after inserting them into my eye, I knew something was very wrong. Alas, I sat in the waiting room with the contacts in my eyes trying to focus on far-away text to see if maybe my eyes needed to adjust to the lenses. I have worn contact lenses for 13 years and never had this experience. I reached in my purse and took out the small plastic packages that the lenses had come in to find out that they were -5.25! My prescription is -3.75. The contact lenses were not even the brand the doctor had recommended. I was astonished. When the doctor took me back again, I explained what I think had happened and that these particular lenses were not the correct prescription and she rolled her eyes and sighed and brought me the correct pair. It seemed even SHE was perturbed with her unprofessional staff! I could go on about my poor experience at this office, but I will never again return for an appointment, and unfortunately I will be squinting until my insurance is ready to pay for another exam. (Oh yeah, my final prescription was weaker than prescriptions I'd had in the past 2 years.) This place needs to get it together. More compassion for patients and a more competent front desk staff would be a good start. read more

I've always had dry eyes and my contacts were giving me issues when I was visiting Orlando for a wedding. Dr. Virani was very helpful in recommending that I change my contacts to a different brand and helped me get set up right away with what I needed so I could get on with my vacation. Update - I actually went to get a second opinion and shocker my current prescription before my horrible experience at Alafaya Vision Center is accurate. I can see 20/20 with it and no changes were necessary. All the Doctor had to do was dial in my old prescription and have me read the bottom line. But she knew better and wouldn't even humor me. Can you imagine if I had actually purchased glasses with the incorrect prescription and then I wasn't able to fly anymore because my vision couldn't be corrected to 20/20! Again, I don't usually leave reviews but this was an unusually horrible service experience and review worthy. Go at your own risk. I only wish I could get my money and time back from this place. From the phone call to make the appointment to checking out with my new prescription and contacts my experience was fantastic. Everyone was very nice. I was getting headaches behind my right eye after being on my computer for 5 or more minutes and the doctor not only diagnosed the problem immediately but corrected it that day. Dr. Virani (as well as the other Optometrists) are fantastic and deserve 5 stars but unfortunately the front office staff are so incredibly rude, condescending and patronizing that I will never go back. I have been going to this office for many years but due to my most recent experience, I am absolutely in the market for a new eye doctor! Even with many years in the hospitality and medical fields, I have never been spoken to by multiple office employees like the way this front office treated me. This is the eye doctor office inside Lenscrafter at Waterford Lakes. I made an appointment online the night before, the appointment slots are 40 minutes interval. I am now at my appointment. I have been waiting for almost 3 hours. It was the same situation last time I came (and I complained before). I did not get to see the doctor I selected when I made my appointment. I was told Lenscrafter has rules that the eye doctor has to fit walk in patients in between regular appointments (even though this is an independent eye doctor office), and the long wait is always going to be the case. I would leave if they hadn't already taken my money. Come here if you don't mind waiting 3 hours beyond your appointment time. (The reviews that says appointment was quick and smooth... Note that person only had written one review before... Just saying). read more

I got fitted for daily contacts which I was initially hesitant about, but now I'm so glad I made the switch. Dr. Virani answered all my questions and my contacts arrived right on time. I had taken my daughter and son here for an annual exam. Both appointments we're extremely long... long time to wait; son's appointment was at 3pm and he was seen for final time at 4:45pm after his eyes were dilated. My daughter needs to return at a later time for dilation since it took too long at that point of the appointment. I just wish they had 2 doctors working or schedule less patients. read more

What a disappointing experience. I wish I would have thought to look at reviews before visiting this Lens crafter located at Waterford lakes. The eye doctor was knowledgeable and thorough and treated me and my children respectfully. The star is for his exeptional service. My complaint is with the others interactions. I was immediately charged $188 dollars. I wasn't given a breakdown on what I was paying for...nor was I given options. Both ladies at the register rushed me around as if they were hiding something. I asked throughout my exam....Is this part of my plan? I guess I was lied to. We look at these people as professionals who know their craft...we may not always know the procedures or questions to ask. A breakdown explaining what services you're rendering would prevent communication problems and buyer remorse. After the exam I priced my children's glasses. After being told that my eight year old's glasses would cost $274 (even after the insurance allowance) I cut out of there. I immediately called my insurance company to verify the costs and they were puzzled by the $188. With my insurance I should have paid 50 and 10 for each of my two children. The insurance company got the breakdown for me and was told that I was charged $110.00 more for placing a tester pair of contacts in my own eyes. What? I felt ripped off and uninformed. I will NEVER return. Ladies and gentlemen please stay away from this place..and pass this on to your friends. Take your business elsewhere. Drive them away! Don't trust this practice. This is not the American way. They stole from me and my kids (who didn't even get glasses). Please don't let them steal from you. read more

Please know the law and your rights before going here. First, understand that the physician here is pleasant and friendly. She is easy to work with and patient with children. I have not had major problems with my eyes, nor has anyone in my family. My point here, is that we have rather basic follow ups, and it would take a complete buffoon to mess up one of the few appointments we have had here. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the office staff. To be quite frank, the best term that keeps coming to mind are "brainless twits". I get it, that is harsh, but they seem like the type that text, facebook and drive and can't believe the audacity of the other driver they rear-ended. I'm always happy when I finally get to deal with the physician here, because I'm finally done with this office staff for the current appointment. Here is where the "law" comment comes in to play. I am not sure if this is the fault of this physician, or lack of training, or maybe the office staff is much less intelligent than I even first thought. The law requires they provide you with a copy of your prescription immediately, and without asking for it. They will make you feel as if the overpriced lens crafters is your only option as they are associated with them. They will also give you difficulty if you advise you are taking your prescription elsewhere. They will also argue with you (even though basic math is presented to them) that their contact lens orders are a better deal, and again, they act abruptly when you inform them you need a copy of your prescription. Florida law (unsure about federal here) requires that the prescription be a part of paperwork you leave with. They must provide it without asking, and they cannot insinuate that they or Lens Crafters are the only option. Furthermore, daily wear soft contact lens prescriptions are required by Florida law to be good for 2 years. Unfortunately, for me, I got my lenses here 4 years ago, and then again a year later went for a check up. I was not aware of this law at the time, and they said I needed a new prescription after a year. This is clearly a ploy to get you in their office more. I have a hard time finding this to be an honest mistake. If they do this to you, no matter how much you love this physician, please contact the Florida Department of Health and the Attorney General to simply file a complaint. You should attempt to speak to some members of their staff about this law as well....you'll see what I mean about "brainless twits". With this said, my wife is currently having this issue. But we are very familiar with the law now. They refuse to provide a prescription that does not say "expired" on it. The prescription was written December 2013. Not only will they not provide a copy that doesn't say expired, the office staff takes it upon themselves to write in large permanent black ink across the prescription "EXPIRED". Understand that "daily lens" does not refer to when you dispose of the lens, but refers to when you wear the lens, per the Florida Health Dept. For example, if you get a lens that lasts one month, if you are to take it out each night, that is a "daily" lens. You expose of it after 30 days, and then start with another "DAILY" lens. Most lenses are soft lenses. Make sure you understand your rights. I did not 4 years ago, and truly wish I did. read more

I was visiting Orlando from out of state and my luggage got lost, I was on my last pair of contacts in my carry on bag. Alafaya vision center got me an appt. on the same day, there was a little bit of a wait, but i didn't mind that because i really need to see an eye doctor that day. The staff is all really helpful, the dr. is not pushy about what contacts to use. I love my acuvue oasys and i wanted to stay with them. So, I got my prescription and contacts to wear on the same day! Saved my vacation. Thank you dr. virani! I was visiting Orlando in December and I ran out of contacts. I found Dr Virani office on Yelp and Google. They are actually located inside of Lenscrafters. I was just a little skeptical because the reviews we so so, but their website and the all doctor bio's were impressive so I decided to try them out. I must say I am glad I did! I really appreciated that they are open 7 days a week! And I had to do a second follow up visit for the contacts and it was really convenient. The doctors are amazing and really know their stuff because they were able to answer all my questions. The technology seems to me the best I have seen. They use digital technology for your prescription and eye health evaluation. They have a ton of contacts available in the office so you can walk with at least one pair. They didn't have my exact prescription so the doc gave me something close, which I really appreciated bc I was on vacation and really needed something to wear! All in all if I lived in Orlando I would definitely only come here for my eye exam! Thank you!! read more

Wasn't very impressed with this office. Staff is poorly trained and rude. When speaking to them they would be staring at their cellphone and ignore you then ask you to repeat yourself without ever lifting their eyes off their phone. The wait was still about two hours despite having an appointment and after all that time the doctor only sees you for about five minutes. (If my appointment is at 1:30 and I show up at 1:00, why not am I seen until close to 3:30?). Also had to come back to the office twice since they kept ordering the wrong set of contacts. Save your time and find a more professional office with properly trained staff. The Lenscrafters that shares the same space was fantastic, it's unfortunate that Alafaya Vision Center has to drag them down. read more

Worst experience of my life. The staff at the Alafaya Vision Center could not be worse. I called in advance to make sure they take my insurance. The woman took my social security number and said that they do take my insurance. I asked how much the appointment would be without insurance and she said $65-85. When I get there the woman, who I knew from her voice was the woman I spoke with earlier, had no idea about my appointment or my insurance. I provided my insurance card and was then told they did not take my insurance. I also noticed on the desk she had a large number of social security numbers written on a scratch sheet of paper with people's names (HIPAA?!) But still I thought fine what is $85 for safe driving vision. Then the tech takes me back for the pre-exam, literally says nothing except "put your chin there", she did not bother to tell me that she was going to blow stuff at my eye then laughs about it, and finally she is doing some kind of scan and putting her hands all over my face, jerking my head around, still giving me no instruction about what she is doing. The doctor was actually really pleasant and if I had only worked with her I would be writing a raving review right now. Then I go to pay and am told it will be $125, fine just get me the hell out of here, but wait there is more! SHE COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH AN ITEMIZED RECEIPT WHICH IS WHAT I'D NEED TO GET REIMBURSEMENT FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I pray others will have better experiences, but I will never return. read more
