My father authored 3 books and is a collector of SEA books. My mom's mom owned a neighborhood bookstore. So, books are literally life. In their glass case, they currently have a Bruce Lee book in their collector's section that I really want, but you know my son's gotta eat and we can eat books. The service has and consistently is highly knowledgeable, patient, and welcoming to not just us, but to all who walk in. The value is = or better than Barnes and Nobles because they have point systems and 2 x a year, the local's favorite..."The Fire Sale!" Although this is not like the Standard in New York, it is definitely top 3 of my favorite book stores of all time.

Since I love books, I appreciate their books on books, and they always manage to have some surprises tucked away, like gardening, philosophy, southern California history, and even travel. None of these are your standard issue books, but specially chosen, eclectic and fascinating titles. They also have posters, lobby cards, ephemera and a wide selection of classic and independent film DVDs. Great customer service, fair prices, and they are a fountain of knowledge on their subject areas. If I want to find something special for someone they always know just what to suggest. Do I sound like I'm gushing? Well, I just can't tell you what a pleasure it is to be in a place that still believes in providing a classic secondhand book store experience. Remember when there used to be great used book stores in every city? This is one of the last ones left! Make sure to call ahead, but it's worth it.

We're compared prices on a bunch of items from each of the K-pop shops at The Source and K Place is almost always is a few dollars cheaper than its competitors. Secondly, the album selection is better and you get a wide array of new releases as well as older albums from previous generations. Many of the new releases also come with preorder benefits (POBs) that is only offered at K Place. These attributes also applies to their online store as well which we also buy from when we are unable to go to the physical storefront. The store can get busy especially during weekends but the lines always go pretty fast. The customer service is nice too. A guy let me repick my POB if it ended up being the same member as another POB I picked. If you sign up for their free membership you get $5 off every $100 spent in-store and online as well so definitely sign up for that if you want additional savings. Another thing to look out for is discounts throughout the store. Some popular items that go on discount are usually older magazines and various merch that they're trying to get rid of. Once in awhile, they'll have a stack of freebies by the front entrance too (usually opened albums without photocards, posters, etc.). Once in awhile, they'll host a girl group/boy group photocard trading event too so keep up with their social media if you want to buy/sell/trade your photocard collection at one of these events. Every time I visit The Source, K Place is my first choice for any potential K-pop purchases.

The customer service was also really nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they made the experience even better. They had also given me extra photo-cards with each album i bought!Which i found nice :) Overall, I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for K-pop albums or lightsticks! The Friends of the Yorba Linda Public Library Book Corner is located on the west side of the Yorba…read moreLinda Public Library, right under the big stair case. There are two ways to get to this small book shop, one is to walk past the main entrance of the library and go down the stair case, or you can park on the west side of the library and enter under the large stair case. The store is tiny, but you can find some steals and bargains here. Make sure you come with plenty of time, patience and cash as they have quiet a bit to look through. About half of the items that are sold are old library items and the other half have been donated by people no longer wanting them. Books usually sell for $1, some are marked a little higher depending on how valuable they really are. The purpose of the Book Corner is to raise funds for more library programming. From what I can recall, the Friends of the Yorba Linda Public Library do give quiet a bit of money back to the library. The book corner has a couple of pretty large book sales every couple of months. These book sales get packed, but can secure you some awesome scores. They sell everything from books on CD, video games, records and books for all ages and subjects! This is actually a good bookstore for persons fluent in Chinese, and not terrible for those who…read morespeak English but are interested in all things Chinese. It's just that I was underwhelmed by the lack of books in English (or even at all) on certain subjects that would be of interest to Anglophone Sinophiles, such as Taoism, I Ching, Feng Shui, how to play Mah Jongg, Chinese Chess (Xiangqi), or how to use the Suan Pan (Chinese abacus). Actually, there was a massive, well-illustrated book that I was tempted to buy about their version of Chess, but it was only in Chinese. There was also a very cool-looking DVD boxed set of a documentary on the development of the Chinese language, that might be playable on DVD players here, but I could be wrong. I almost went for it, but I already have tooooo many DVDs, and although I would have learned a lot, I couldn't take the risk of them not playing in our region and/or not having good English narration (which I suspect it did, actually). The sole person running the place was really nice but as one might expect didn't speak English that well. When I asked her about books on Mah Jongg, she corrected me by saying it with a hard G at the end (Isn't that what I said?), thought for a moment, and then said, "Come back next Wednesday." I admit I forgot to do that. They also have music CDs, mostly Chinese of course but some used American ones in the back room as well. When I asked this person about traditional Chinese music, she recommended several that looked legit, which I bought for stiff but reasonable prices. They were pleasant melodies played on traditional instruments, but marred by the inclusion of cheesy electronic keyboards and drum machines in the background. It turns out that many such CDs are Westernized like that. My biggest concern was in their philosophy section. They seemed to have a lot of material that espoused Maoist communism, and while I am a strong libertarian in respect to freedom of the press, well, let's just say it made me a bit uncomfortable. Contrasting points of view would have been nice. I am also giving fewer stars than normal because their hours are verrrry limited!

Enlighten…read moreBooks just opened in the past couple weeks, and is a small Chinese language bookstore in Chinatown, Los Angeles. It is located in the front corner of an older building that had been vacant for way too long. Inside is a neat selection of books on a fairly wide variety of topics, including photography and the arts, to literature and medicine. I've noticed over time that many of the Chinese bookstores I have been in, have a bent towards technical subjects or science and medicine. Here I was drawn to a fun book which is essentially an abridged edition of an old medical canon. There are of course plenty of language dictionaries and maps - I came close to also picking up a cool little road atlas. The store has a nice, quiet atmosphere and is good fun to browse in. It is also a great way to support not only a local business (yay :) ) but also a way to support what is fast disappearing (at least here in the U.S) - print books and the wonderful stores that offer them.
