They have, compared to most of the restaurants in the area, the ability to renew themselves and the menu. Especially the tasting menus they offer Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes they are excellent, sometimes very good - but they never let me down. I have eaten French, Italian, Asian and Indian meals here - all very well prepared. This summer I asked the restaurant to set a surprise menu for eight people - and they did - six courses with passion. Ingredients with high quality, like lobster and foie gras, excellent tenderloin and a superb dessert. Los Laureles hasn't the largest wine menu in the area, but they have chosen a very good variety of Andalucían (there are some very good ones), paired with a good selection of wine from other regions. Unfortunately many restaurants in Almunecar have mostly low or medium quality wines on their list. Cred. to Los Laureles for their ability to find wines that pair the courses very good and at the same time are very price worthy. Compared with the other restaurants in the town, this is a five star restaurants. 10 minutes walk from the tourist traps and you are trapped in the best restaurant in town - and like to stay...

Sadly our most recent visit was extremely disappointing due to the way a simple issue was handled by management. I ordered avocado on toast with poached eggs and my husband ordered a small children's breakfast, something we've ordered many times before without issue. I briefly stepped outside to take an important phone call just as the food arrived. I was gone for no more than a couple of minutes and could see the plate arriving at the table. When I returned, half the dish was initially missing and had to be requested. Once I began eating, it was clear the poached eggs were badly overcooked and very dry. I had two bites and pushed the plate aside. Our table was right beside the bar where the manager, Cynthia, was working. It was obvious the meal had been left untouched, yet nobody came to ask if anything was wrong. When the waitress Evelyn cleared the table she asked if everything was okay. I explained the eggs were overcooked and she politely said she would speak to her manager. However, no one returned to the table. When the bill arrived the dish was still included. When I queried it, Evelyn explained that her manager had refused to remove it. Cynthia then came over and the conversation quickly became argumentative in front of other diners. Rather than listening to the feedback, she insisted the eggs had become overcooked because I had "left the plate sitting too long", which simply wasn't true. She even suggested checking CCTV before quickly backtracking on that claim. She also dismissed the issue by saying they had served many breakfasts that morning without complaint, which is irrelevant when a customer has clearly returned a dish after two bites. The situation became unnecessarily uncomfortable and embarrassing as she continued to argue the point in front of other guests, even rolling her eyes during the conversation. Eventually the dish was removed from the bill, but the damage had already been done. The younger staff members, including Evelyn, are always friendly and professional, but unfortunately we've found some of the more senior staff to be abrupt and dismissive on several occasions, and this experience reinforced that. Very disappointing, particularly from a restaurant we've enjoyed for years.

We came…read morewhen they opened at 8 PM, and since that doesn't align with the typical Spanish dinner schedule, we had the place all to ourselves. First of all, the views. While it is a bit of a drive and it feels like you're going up into the mountains to get here, it is well worth it. The hotel did a great job of laying out the restaurant so that the views are unforgettable. Our funny and friendly server offered recommendations and kept us smiling throughout the evening. Throughout the evening, it felt like she was an old friend we had know. For years. Menus were available in Spanish and English. Other servers would also appear to sweep away finished plates. I ordered the lamb shoulder (#weakness for lamb) and it was delicious, tender, and was the first dish on this particular trip that made me do my happy food dance. Yes, I have a dance, or more like a happy food shimmy. I tried a bit of my friend's duck, which was also lovely, especially the sauce. We shared the pineapple dessert, which was an atypical preparation that I really enjoyed. The sauce was a nice touch. I would totally go back to Amador again!

The brother of the owner is the chef here and serves Spanish cuisine and also modern European food. The menu has plenty of choice and upon request something vegetarian can also be organized. They were quite flexible and more than happy to accommodate requests. I had the classic sardines on toast, a typical Andalucían dish and it was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth and the black paella with prawn and squid was also fabulous. We had finger food lunch twice and it was also very good. Lots of gazpachos, hot soups, tapas and mini burgers. Dessert was nice and the wine list small but excellent and very well priced. Good service, English speaking staff and nice means made for a very pleasant experience and I really enjoyed it. Happily come here for a meal anytime.
