I would not recommend this album Pain Clinic for reason why it's because a friend of mine goes there and for the last 25 days he's been trying to get them to give him his pain medicine. He has a rheumatoid arthritis really bad and they said they seen a new medicine to the drugstore. The drugstore says is on backorder. He's called. Try to get another prescription and they will not call him and nothing for pain. They're gonna make him wait 30 days come back and see them so I give them on a scale of one to four 00. read more

I was referred to Alabama Pain Physicians by my neurologist for a nerve block due to severe, ongoing pain. After speaking with someone in their office, I was told I would receive a call back within 2 days. That call never came. It has now been over 3 weeks (25 days), and despite leaving a voicemail, I never received any follow-up. During this time, I continued to suffer in significant pain without treatment. I ultimately had to find another provider, who was able to schedule and perform the procedure within a week. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this practice due to the lack of communication and follow-through. read more

I had been a patient there for three years. At first everything was great. Then they changed my clinician and everything changed. Very short with conversation about my situation and more concerned with renewing my prescriptions and getting me on my way. I waited longer and longer once getting there in the room they put in. At no point did they check on me or tell me how long it would be. At my last visit I waited on hour and 15 minutes before she came in. I have been a pain patient now for several years, and I am very satisfied with my level of care. Dr. Irons is very caring and compassionate. My nurse I see at my appointments is very good at getting things done, be it prior auths or procedures setup. I would definitely recommend Alabama Pain, I have been a patient of other "pain clinics" but none have given me the quality of care I get here. Dr. Irons not only is my pain doctor, but also can do the procedures I need. I also see Dr. Pisaturo aka Dr. Perfect, he is an awesome doctor, he knows nerves better than anyone I've ever met. He too can take care of you in the office and in the procedure room. He is funny, smart, & very meticulous. Overall I would highly recommend Alabama Pain Physicians for anyone needing a caring doctor and dealing with pain. Have there been bumps in the road, yes. Prior auths can be a pain to get done, but insurance companies can also slow that process down. Be patient, but also be assertive, Alabama Pain has a patient portal, so making calls for something can easily be done on there too. I came from another state. I been a chronic pain patient since the 90's. I been taking Opioids. 3 surgeries later two discs I was better but left me with a condition called foot drop. I have nerve damage with 3 of those test to confirm. I was just on a reasonable amount of opioids when I moved and PCP that oversaw my pain treatment gave me a referral. He was available if you needed to speak with him about me I was ok with that. After all he treated my pain for 30 years! I came to Alabama and everywhere I went I was treated as a drug addict. Like this one today she was very arrogant and she said she read my referral. But I bought a copy and while we were speaking she had to reread it 3 times. She just didn't care. All I asked for is to get my quality of life back. She obviously already had her mind made up didn't care what worked for me how I Have to manage my pain everyday. She started with what if's. What if they come for my licenses? Crazy stuff. I said well I'm 65. Been taking this at a very higher dose and been stepping down over the years. They said corporation guidelines say only 60 mg a day. Not law. She told me to move back to that state. Arrogant. Mean. Non caring. read more

Great experience for my 1 visit. They couldn't take me in for long term care, but they did what they could for the month. Dr. Irons was incredibly helpful and understanding. As was the staff and check in associate. It's unfortunate I couldn't get approval for permanent treatments but the experience was just great. Recommended! read more

Be careful. During business hours you get a message to leave. Never can get to talk to someone. Then after hours, only a message. I've been waiting 2 days for help with a RX. So if you want to run out of Meds, and have no help,,,Stand in line with them. Many times they just don't call your prescriptions in. Obviously, I changed. I just wanted other to know the truth. I see Dr. Irons and he has gotten me to a place where I'm finally getting some relief from pains I've had for decades and for pains I've had for just a few months. Dr. Irons and the nursing staff actually listen to me! They come into my appointments prepared. They actually read my chart before they walk into the room! The procedures are going well. I have been a patient at Alabama Pain Physicians for sometime now and have never had any complaints at all. The front staff and doctors are wonderful. However, three weeks ago today, I had an MRI on my back that was ordered by one of their physicians. After repeated requests and repeated assurances that I would get the results from them forthwith, I have yet to do so. It makes me wonder what they are hiding because a physician there performed minor surgery on me last October. I spoke to the imaging center and they sent the results to them the day after the MRI and again about a week later. Do they REALLY care about their patients? read more

Actually, my review is split. I like the doctors and staff in the procedure area and give them five stars; however, the staff one sees for routine office visits gets one star. My husband and I were at APP yesterday and saw a NP that we have never seen. My 75-year old husband has Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and just by looking at him it is obvious that he is not a well man. During the past nine-months, his body has endured massive amounts of chemo, both infusions and oral medications. He has been in the hospital several times with ulcers that start in his mouth and go through the digestive system. Needless to say, he writhes in pain. In addition to the pain medication he receives from APP, he is also prescribed Oxycodone to manage the pain from the ulcers. The NP began talking to him about the two pain medications and got very testy about the issue. I felt as though we were being interrogated and assured her that we were not drug abusers. She suggested my husband use his oncologist to write pain prescriptions. I have been unhappy for a long time regarding the front office employees. The office is poorly managed, and the amount of time one must wait BEFORE and AFTER a routine visit is ridiculous. When I find another pain management office that uses radiofrequency ablation, I am finished with Alabama Pain Physicians. . read more

If you consider yourself a half way intelligent and/or a somewhat sophisticated person, Alabama Pain Clinic should be avoided at all costs, as you will be an utter misfit (unless you show up in pajamas or overalls) whilst feeling quite confused over the level of care. Rock bottom even. (Fyi: Cahaba Pain and Spine is 10000% better). At Alabama Pain, everyone is treated as though they are drug addicts, being forced to take drug tests even on your first visit! even though you aren't asking for or never have been prescribed pain drugs???? Don't ask questions, pee in the cup, or don't let the door hit you on the way out. Not to mention the way it's run is ineffective and bizarre, as you only speak with the doctor one time and that's it, forever. After that, questions about your health or treatment plan is an absolute crap shoot, and you better understand the rules of that game, or else you will get a lot of finger wagging. Remember if you decide to go to Alabama Pain, you are being done a favor just because they opened the doors that morning and DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS, especially if it's regarding an issue where they dropped the ball. Very poor. Last month December, I was called for a random drug test in the office. I showed up, did my urine test, pill count, cheek swab. No problem. Last Friday, I was called to come in again for another random drug test. I spoke with the lady that called and told her that I felt bad and I was self quarantining because I did not want to get around someone that might have be covid positive Plus bad weather was expected Monday. I have a bad heart and because Covid was raging and I did not want to get the new variant. So she called back on Saturday and said they would do a phone exam Monday @ 9:30 am. 9:30 came no call, 10:30 came no call. I called and left word that no one had called me as of yet. I called 4 times through the day and no return call. At 3:23 a nurse pract, named Brandy finally called and was very very rude. I asked her why didn't anyone call me at the appointment time. We asked to speak to a supervisor. Finally at 5:17, Robin, the office manager called me back and said that she could do nothing. The only one that could do any changing was the nurse practitioner on duty. The office manager said I told them on Friday that I had covid and felt bad and that is why they changed the appointment to over the phone. I told them on Friday that I was trying to stay away from the general public so I would not get covid because of my heart. So they assumed that I had covid, so they changed the in house appointment to virtual phone. So when the nurse practitioner finally called back, she kept saying that I lied to them And now I would have to come in for a urine test Or I would not get my medicine. I told her I never said I had covid, just that I was trying to stay away from the general public and because the weather wAs supposed to be bad. I did not ever tell them I had covid. The office manager promised to listen to the original call from Friday and to call me on Tuesday after her talk with Dr. Dodd. My appointment was at 9:30 and no call until 3:23. Fast, 99% on time and great staff!! If calling though very busy and call wait 15-30 mins. Also scheduling not good on communicating had to call 3 times to get them to schedule and filled out procedure approval paperwork waited 3 months called waited 3 more called finally after a year wanted me to come in and schedule appt to talk about getting approved. Told them already had appt year ago been waiting for approval and then response was I'm sorry was denied for procedure 5 months ago and somehow forgot to call me. Since then I don't give benefit of doubt anymore. Drs are great and still come here for that reason! Paperwork mishaps happen but I'm not taking chance anymore so I verify everything twice!! A visit that normally takes usually 15 mins, with a maximum of around 30 mins turned into 1 hour 50 mins. When I inquired as to what is going on that I have not been called, as to how I had read my US magazine from cover to cover and how ridiculous that I had been waiting for 1 hour 30 mins. I was told by David Lee they were running a little behind, further telling me, "DON'T YOU EVER COME BACK HERE UNTIL SOMEONE HAS CALLED YOUR NAME". He told me this twice. I waited for another woman to call the front to inquire what has happened that my name had not been called. She told me to go back up front. I went back to the woman who had checked my blood pressure and asked if she could tell me where my name was on the list, she didn't want to look and yelled at me to go back up front until my name was called. I was the next name called along with others. David came in to give me my perscription and began a 5 mins tongue lashing, telling me to not ever come back to them with an ATTITUDE (it was obvious that HE was the one with the attitude). He continued into how disrespectful I was and that HE NEVER was disrespectful to any of the medical care places he goes. I could tell this was getting ridiculous so rather than getting angry with how I was being treated, which was only going to escalate his anger, I just told him I was sorry. I said this twice and he responded with,"I'M NOT FINISHED!" He continued his tirade, so I just said my birthdate, "I'LL GIVE IT TO YOU WHEN I'M READY TO GIVE IT TO YOU!" I just started looking at my phone at this point. At the end of this tirade, "IF YOU CANNOT BE ANY MORE RESPECTFUL, THEN YOU NEED TO FIND ANOTHER CLINIC!" After I left, about 10 mins, I received a call from the clinic. It was David, apologizing. He told me that my name had been looked over, which is exactly what my inquiry was in the first place. I have NEVER EVER been talked to like this man talked to me. David obviously had something else make him anger and he took it out on me. I hope he can learn to control his anger, especially since his job depends on patients using this clinic. I have complained to a manager, and will see how the next visit goes, but if I am treated even a smidgen anything like I experienced this visit I will be finding another clinic. read more

This place is a joke, all they are interested in is your money, they don't give a crap about how you feel. If you are prescribed pain meds, make sure you go when they call you for a pill count, if you don't they will call you every day until you come, I understand they want to make sure you are taking your meds and not selling them or something but give me a break!! I work everyday from 7:30-5:00, also they do not listen to you, I went for about a year and that's all I could stand, I saw Dr. Eason my first appointment, then when I had my block, they were making me take meds I didn't need for my situation and made me get off some that I did need before they would even prescribe pain meds, please go somewhere else, this place needs to be shut down, the doctors and staff are horrible!!!! read more

I'm completely screwed at this point. I've had a pair of joint surgeries this year and I have a couple more back and joint issues, so my primary care doctor referred me to Alabama Pain Physicians in Vestavia. It took weeks for them to get the referral correct so I could schedule an appointment. Once they finally got that right, it took weeks to get an appointment. I saw Dr. Dodd, and that appointment went fine, but it's now been four weeks and I still don't have all of my medications because of the staff. I've been waiting on them to submit the prior authorization to my insurance company. I've called. My insurance company has called. My pharmacy has called. I've asked to speak to the office manager, but that hasn't been returned. I've had better luck going to the office in person than via phone. Once the nurse or receptionist hangs up the phone, they don't actually do anything. They put it in the notes that the prescription needs to be sent, or they put it in the notes that the authorization needs to be sent. It's been months since this process began and I still don't have the medication. Being that it's a pain physicians office and I've signed a contract, I'm screwed. I have literally made 100 phone calls between their office, my general practitioner, my pharmacy and insurance company, and I still haven't accomplished the bottom line because the receptionists/nurses at Alabama Pain Physicians won't help me or do their job. I can't get anyone to help me, and I can't switch physicians either. read more

Judging by today's visit, not happy. I waited 45 minutes today which is not bad but I agree with one of the other reviews, if you are 10 minutes late, SORRY. Kind of cold to me. I like Jessie but the girl today was not so friendly in my opinion. It has got to where I see a different nurse every time. Since the move from Trinity to Acton Rd., I have not seen a doctor. I met the challenge of lowering my dosage, actually taking one med. away. Now, the question was bluntly asked, "Why am I taking Klonopin. Well, let me begin... I, for the life of me, do not understand why you cannot see a doctor sometimes. I miss Dr. Thoma who checked on my every once in a while which portrayed a lot of compassion and care. read more

Had a cervical block there, after the procedure was done was sick throwing up, was walked to driver still sick. Was sick in parking lot and on way home. Have no idea what took place during the procedure. Doctor never spoke to me or my driver after procedure to tell us what happened or what to do or not to do. I felt like I was one cow in a herd. Not treated individually or with compassion at all. There were good staff there and some just there to herd you through. I was asked 5 times what pills I was on . I am not on any. I suffer through and am trying blocks to alleviate the pain. Nurses in procedure were great and also the lady who done scheduling. I just feel that after any procedure the doctor needs to at least talk to the driver and let them know what happened. read more

If this were for an eye doctor's appointment ,or a dental appointment, I could understand the 10 minute wait policy. If you are 11 minutes late, then you are told to go home. Alabama Pain Management Physicians being a pain management clinic, I do not appreciate nor understand the fact that people are given a 10 minute late period. Once you are 11 minutes late, you are told to come back or wait an hour before you are told if you are going to be seen or not. Otherwise, you are told to go home and make another appointment. As I look around this waiting room, and talked with people, they've all been turned away. That's not fair to people who are in pain. This is the doctors'. area of practice. Do they not know that people with broken spines, in wheelchairs, walking with canes, take longer to move around. Practice. And this is why I would nebver recommend this to anyone else if they have another option. For me, I like the doctors once you get back there, but you have to leave it at the crack of dawn, no matter what time your appointment is to be here to wait all day, do not be late for your appointment, so bring your books, bring your paperwork and bring your computer so you don't get bored because the front staff and there and then. So difficult that if someone is 10 minutes late, they are told to go home. Bad public relations. For people who are in pain, they should be seen or given a 15 minute wait. To get here, especially when it's Christmas time and their may or may not be accidents on the freeway roads closed. Or what have you never? Would I recommend this place to anyone! read more

If I could leave a lower score I would. The clinic is managed terribly, I have been here 7 times and I have yet to have an experience that would score above a 2. This "clinic" is only concerned with getting your copay. All staff with only one exception is extremely rude and do not know how to talk to people. I have 7 bulging discs, yet they continually change my medication even when one was working. This place is a prime example of the future of doctor / patient care and should be closed. Being called back , having my vitals taken then sent back out to the lobby to wait on a room, waiting 45 mins or more past my appointment time to finally get in my room and then when I tell the "doctor" about their indecent patient treatment- I am told that that's just the way things are. Well I say , I'll just hurt" it is not worth the time , money , or embarrassment that I've wasted on this place. Please shut your doors or find a way to treat people like you would treat a relative that you care for. Doctors should get back to the "good 'ol days" when they really wanted to care for people. If I could leave this clinic a lower rating, I would. The staff is friendly enough, but wait times are ALWAYS ridiculous, sometimes you sit in the room waiting to see a doctor or NP for over 45 minutes. My husband has been going here for well over a year, they have changed his medication time after time, and each time he has needed a Prior Authorization through his insurance company, his doctor has taken her dear sweet time, each and every time, he went almost a solid week with no pain medicine AT ALL because of her negligence to send the PA she was suppose to. Now, we are going through this again, he had an appointment last week, and she was suppose to send over a PA to his insurance, it is a week later, I have called at LEAST 5 times, and they STILL haven't sent my husbands PA, so he is without medication, going through withdrawals, and in a severe amount of pain, all because this clinic gives zero craps about there patients well being. If you can find somewhere else to go, do it, don't ever willingly take your family to this hell hole, they don't care about their patients, and they probably never will. My husband will be finding a new doctor, because it is beyond ridiculous that he has six breaks in his spine, and is having to go without his medication because a doctor can't do her damn job. read more
