My girlfriend and I stopped by late one night on the way down to Corpus Christi. We just wanted a quick burger before we got back on the road and AJ's hit the spot perfectly. The place itself is pretty bare bones and could use a little TLC. But for just a quick in and out stop, it didn't matter all that much. Server was pleasant and took care of us promptly. Just had lunch at AJ's. Found them on Yelp while traveling between Houston area and RGV. So excited we stopped here! We each had cheeseburgers and I had French Fries and husband had Tator Tots. Burgers were large and fresh and tasted great! Fries and tots were cooked to perfection (crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside)! We also got hand-dipped REAL milkshakes to go, which was happiness in a cup! Loved the building! Looks like it might have been an old gas station. Every surface inside is clean and orderly and service was friendly and timely. Located in the town of Edna right off Hwy 59. Super easy and quick detour and well worth it! Do yourself a favor and skip the DQ and all the other crappy chains and go to AJ's. You can thank me later. Oh! And if you are in a hurry you can call in your order because they have a drive through window. And one final thing, there is plenty of parking. We are driving a 34 ft pull behind trailer and we had no problem parking, so bring your rv or horse trailer and enjoy a great burger! read more

Finding AJ's is why I like Yelp. Was driving up Hwy 59 heading home and looked up restaurants and found this burger joint in Edna. A small and very clean and friendly mom and pop. There was a table with several older couples in their church clothes so I knew it was popular with locals. Ordered the cheeseburger all the way with onion rings. Delicious! Driving thru on a rainy Sunday and came across the best cheeseburger! A great little place with friendly service! I got a single and my husband a double with grilled jalapeños and bacon. They were bigger than we anticipated because of the price. Toasted bun with all the fixings and many additional options. For less than $25, we got the burger combos with fries and tea. Headed back home from Corpus Christi and looking for a quick lunch and a restaurant we haven't tried. Searched trusty Yelp for a recommendation and this place in old Edna popped up. Sounded good so we made the loop around to find it and I am really glad we did. The restaurant is very unassuming as a converted old filling station (almost expected to meet someone named Goober here..) it was a blessing that there were no fan belts or hoses on the walls or tires laying around just an adapted front drive through and demure entrance door. The inside is very basic small town tables and chairs with an old menu block letter sign and plastic wrapped specials list on the counter. Divey! I loved it. A nice lady took our order (two cheese burger baskets with fries) and the food came out pretty quickly. I was surprised how large and beautiful the burgers were presented. Large home style buns with a fat patty of excellent quality, lettuce, tomato and onion all fresh. The burgers were wrapped in paper like days gone by and the first bite sent me back to the days of my youth when people went out of their way in crafting good burgers. They have the taste of early Americana busting of juicy flavor. They really need to be wrapped in paper as they are just that juicy! The crinkle fries were cooked perfectly crunchy without being dry. The catchup was brought out from a cooler cold..(love the health and safety mindset) and alas my burger was gone before I realized I hadn't taken a picture! Sorry about that! I set my empty basket down and pulled more tip money out of my wallet to add to my previous tip when we paid at the counter. This was the best burger I've had really in decades. Not dripping in avocado-mango-salsa or blackened or covered in bacon or whatever, just an honest old school home run of a basic cheese burger. Hot damn! The saying, "great things come in small packages" applies here. This roadside shack may be unassuming, but the burger was amazing. Stopped in here on the way to Corpus Christi from Houston! It's a tiny place off 59S, but easy to get to and from the freeway. The gal at the cash register was making a milkshake with real "Keith Valley" ice cream when we walked in. We ordered two cheeseburger combos and two Corona's and our bill was $21 and change. The beer was ice cold and the cheeseburgers were delightfully messy! There were too many French fries to finish! The wait staff (1 person) did a great job checking on tables and getting refills for folks. After your meal, take a moment to drive through the town; it's a step back in time. We frequently make a weekend run from Houston to Corpus Christi and back again to visit my parents. Typically, we stop to eat in Edna, which is the midway point in the trip, and usually that involves a stop at a fast-food chain restaurant - There's a Church's Chicken, Whataburger and McDonald's off the highway, for example. But this time, we used our Yelp-fu to see if there were any interesting places inside Edna because, well, we've had fun doing that before on other road trips. And we found a pretty good lunch spot in town: AJ's Restaurant on E. Main Street. It's one of those classic Texas roadhouse restaurants - a tiny joint in an old gas station, with brick walls and polished concrete floors. The menu runs to burgers, catfish, chicken, etc. I had the cheesburger, and paid the extra .75 to get it on a sourdough bun. The burger was excellent - fresh lettuce, tomato and just the right amount of mustard. The meet was moist and flavorful, but not runny. The bun was perfect - sweet, toasted on top, and soft but not mushy. It came with crinkle-cut fries that had obviously been fried just for our order, and they were just right - crispy outside, soft and fluffy inside. The woman behind the counter was super friendly, and while it took a bit to get our food, it was worth it. Highly recommended as a non-chain choice if you are driving between Corpus and Houston. And we'll be back. I love catfish, and didn't notice they had it on the menu until I'd already ordered. Good excuse to stop in again! read more

This is a great burger and fries spot. Everything is cooked fresh to order. Burgers are huge and delicious. I ordered mine on the sour dough bun which is a little denser and sweet. It was really delicious. We got an order of fried okra and our son got a chili burger. Everything was really good. We will be going back for our burger fixes for sure.
