    Karaage ramen

Ok, where to start? Ajisen Ramen, whoever the bosses are, sure know where to set up their restaurants. You have one in Regent Arcade, and then you have another down at Leigh St. Lunch at Leigh Street today though. 3/4 of the place was reserved when we arrived, and we were lucky to still be able to grab a seat. With just a few colleagues we had ordered Karaage Chicken Ramen, Corn Ramen and Fried Rice. Ramen. I'm not an expert. But I've tried other Japanese Ramen in other Asian Countries when travelling and I've never been a fan of Ajisen's cooking. My order was the Corn Ramen for this arvo's lunch. Not sure which soup base is the Corn Ramen on, but it's not the very thick, and does taste a bit bland. If you can take spice, I suggest you pour some chilli oil into the soup to add some taste to it. And the Ramen noodles? The best Ramen I've tried though had a slightly tangy or rather springiness to it, and Ajisen's does not. Not a big problem here but every little bit counts. The other ingredients - Chasyu(pork), egg, and vegetables all taste so so. All in all, I would say that I'm very disappointed with the soup. And that in turn, affected the rating I'm giving them. Still without many choices in Adelaide to choose from, Ajisen, with it's wide range of Ramen does serves to curb the urge for Ramen evey now and then.

On a cold Saturday night, I needed to fill my belly of food before my bar crawl. So off we went to Ajisen Ramen, a Japanese place down Leigh St. It wasn't overly busy and we managed to score a table booth/chairs as it is a small place which of course can only fit a certain number of people. I heard from a friend of mine that it awfully gets packed during lunch time so I thought that this place must be pretty popular. It has a certain charm about the place, casual setting with the Japanese decorations on the walls and counter. The waitress was friendly and took our meal orders. I ended up ordering the Grilled Salmon Ramen, which is a bowl of ramen (noodles) in soup with grilled salmon, egg and vegetables. I didn't have to wait too long for my meal to come out, the bowl was hot, the soup was hot, the meal was hot, which meant it was cooked well. Long noodles, not broken is a good sign and also if you eat all the noodles and the bowl remains hot, it's a definitely good sign that this was served and made perfectly. The dish tasted savoury, the soup full of flavour and the grilled salmon was perfect, just the way I like it. Half of the soup was gone, and my belly now full and satisfied. The price is good, the quality is super duper and the quantity is massive. Thumbs up! The only let down was that they don't do split orders for groups. While we were still eating, there were a couple of people waiting to sit, and the waitress asked us to move down one table to let these customers sit. I thought it was a bit rude as we were nearly finished with our meals. It wouldn't hurt for the waiting customers to wait a little longer. Thumbs down! However I will return here again for the ramen if I am in the area.

Just in case you're interested to know, I've never been to Korea before. Here you can eat authentic Korean food in Adelaide. Which sounds kinda cool, doesn't it? During my meal at Korean Sojubar I didn't expect to get smiles, a generous 50c discount off my drink and Korean celebrities on their wall TV screen. (I think it was because maybe the owner looked very happy, just getting loaded with cash from a couple of wealthy customers who paid before me.) From mere personal observation, experimenting with Korean dining makes the owner a helluva lot of money (I can't stop mentioning the two customers before me who dropped hundreds of dollars to eat Korean food)... But I'll be the first to say that spending over $33 for a very flat lemon lime bitter drink, and mildly flavoured Korean food was not something I would be willing to do again. Star rating based upon the following: -Awesome owner, you clearly rock for giving me 50cents off my drink. It's ironic, because my lady friend found 50cents when we were walking to the beach earlier today! Whatever was happening, spiritual or not, there was something about the finding money or saving money a lot today?! Could it be she's my lucky charm, or something really good is about to happen to me? $3.00 in total for my experience here! I did pretty well here! -How flat my lemon lime bitter tasted. It was a warm day and they gave me no cold ice whatsoever. Wow. -There were only two other groups of customers on a late Saturday afternoon...I was worried that this place might have been packed upon entering, but luckily there was barely anyone.
