Pros Our group of friends were going out for dinner and decided Curry special would be an excellent…read morechoice since we had heard so much about this place. The first impressions were good and the interior is well maintained and clean. The seating arrangement is also pleasant with two level seating whether you want to sit on level one or the ground floor. The service was also impeccable and we were shown to our table instantly. Everything was going on well Cons we ordered, the food arrived and we couldnt believe how small the portions were. We were all disappointed and although we didnt say anything we ate, paid and left still hungry and way out of pocket!!! The downside is that they are expensive and there portions are way too little. if you can afford it, thats not a problem but otherwise I think you can get better priced restaurants for a similar menu.

Something suspicious is going on here... as we were about to enter Aladdin, two men very eagerly…read moreushered us over to the next door over claiming it was additional seating for Aladdin. We later found out this place was actually not Aladdin, but rather Nazrul. After further investigation, it seems Nazrul and Aladdin might be sister restaurants with the same owner and similar food (plus, it even says Aladdin on the wall), but something about the whole situation seemed a bit fishy... That being said, the food was actually pretty good. The chicken tikka (15.95 GBP) had very tender chicken in a nice curry. The lamb blast was slightly worse though, as the lamb was not that tender. The peshwari naan (3.50 GBP) was more like a pastry or dessert, as the naan was filled with coconut flakes - very tasty though. The mango lassi (2.95 GBP) was much thicker than usual with a yogurt consistency. There was a good mango flavor and I enjoyed this drink very much. The service (apart from what I mentioned before) wasn't great though. The staff didn't seem that friendly and were not that attentive either. The environment is also a bit strange - not in an entirely bad way, as there is definitely some bright colors and lively atmosphere, but the decor just didn't seem that authentic. Overall, it was a bit of a confusing experience at the Nazrul right from the beginning. The food is decent but I can't help but wonder if it would've been better if I actually went to the real Aladdin restaurant.

But I walk up to Aladdin, they take my group and seat us in the next dining room labelled Cinnamon's, but the menu says Nazrul. I guess they're all the same ownership? Why have different business names then? In any case, we had a better experience with the food than other reviews. The Prawn Blast special was decent, with a robust sauce with a good heat and depth of flavor. The cauliflower saag wasn't my favorite, but was well received by my dining companions. The garlic rice and garlic naan were both supremely fragrant. Food exceeded our expectations after we belatedly noticed the super-low rating. But the service. No water was served. Our check took over 15 minutes. We were brought papadum, then charged for it, and for more than we received. Not worth the hassle of arguing about it because they were SO SLOW. Wish we'd done our research and hit up a better spot.

A sign in the window proclaims: Who needs Brick Lane when you have Upper Tooting Road?…read more There are indeed a lot of Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Sri Lankan restaurants along Upper Tooting Road. However, there doesn't seem to be the variety as found on Brick Lane. I have to confess that I'm not a local and may not be eating at the best restaurants but so far, I've only had mediocre food in Tooting. I chose Al-Mirage because the waiter was very friendly and came out to talk to me. Sadly they didn't do a thali. Dining on my own meant that I could only sample a few dishes. The lamb bhuna was nice but not outstanding. Perhaps the best thing on my visit was the freshly squeezed juice. My search goes on. I've heard good things about Lahore Tandoori so that may be my next trip in Tooting

The restaurant specialises in southern cuisine. We always get the chicken dopiaza and coconut parathas as well as poppadoms with dipping sauces to start. My friend also likes the masala dosa but I find it quite bland. I always remember the food being very satisfying but the last time I went I felt the quality of the curry could be better (having said that I've just been to Vij's in Vancouver so my frame of reference is now pretty messed up) and overall felt quite disappointed, contrary to previous visits. I think next time I'm in Tooting I will try something different, although I'll always have affection for this place as a classic local Indian restaurant.

I've been here three times, and each time, I've ended up sniffling and very quiet throughout! As far as I can tell, the food here is authentic. Prior to joining this restaurant, the cook spent a number of years honing his craft in Singapore which has a sizable South Indian population. Service is generally friendly, though perhaps a tad disorganised. For instance, our starter of paneer 65 arrived after all of our mains, but this is usually down to the popularity of the restaurant. While we were the only customers in the restaurant on the door, it turned out that they had 150 takeaway orders to deal with, and were two men down. The prices are amazingly cheap. I'm really used to central London prices, and it's always a joy to spend much less than I would where I live, and still have more than enough food to bring home for another meal. Dishes I'd recommend include paneer 65 (or chicken 65 if you want some meat), deep-fried sprats, chicken paratha and tomato uttapham.
