The hairdresser was very friendly and listened to what I wanted done to my hair and actually followed what I wanted instead of doing what she thought best. There was lots of hair magazines for me to look through to see if I wanted a style change. The hair wash was extremely thorough and I received a few minute head massage after which was very nice. There was a selection of products on sale which were at very reasonable prices. I would return to this hairdressers.

The colourist then came for a consult, and I discussed my hair history with her (years of dying it black myself with only a recent salon-quality lightener to lift the colour to brown), and we decided on a semi-permanent colour. The service itself took about as much time as I would have expected, and the assistant gave me a relaxing shampoo. Both the colourist and assistant were chatty, although the overall vibe of the salon wasn't particularly welcoming so I felt a bit awkward throughout the experience. Perhaps it was because it wasn't bustling with business. Overall, the salon experience was pretty average and the price was par for central London; I had no immediate complaints after leaving, but I also had nothing particularly good to say about the salon. Nothing stood out as better than the rest. Unfortunately, the colour washed out after just one shampoo at home with products specially formulated for coloured hair. I didn't bother going back.

The decor is French and feminine with antique furniture and there was alternative music playing which was a nice change to other salons I've been in. The overall result was good, but not the greatest haircut I've ever had. However, the price is great, so it's a little bit of a trade off.

A short chat revealed that the salon has been in this location for about 25 years. I had no idea! I thought it was new! It's also a family owned business, so the chances of you being pressured with up-selling of products and other hair treatments is going to be low to non-existent. Hooray! The salon was very quiet both on the day I popped in to book my appointment and on the day of my appointment. It was a welcome change. Having been a regular at Tony & Guy down the road for over a year, I had recently grown very tired of the extremely loud, busy, and overly bright salon that is trademark Tony & Guy. I had also grown very tired of getting a phone call from T&G 30 minutes prior to my appointment informing me that my stylist was running about 20-30 late. A semi-permanent cut and color should take about 60-90 minutes yet I often found myself at T&G for upwards of three hours with about 2/3 of that time spent reading magazines waiting for someone to tend to me. Each visit became more and more unpleasant and I was in a rut and I needed out. Enter Armstrong Cuthbert. Armstrong Cuthbert has everything going for it - a nice, calm environment, pleasant and personable staff, and Aveda products. Oh, and that lovely smell of Aveda when you walk in the door. Heavenly! There was no wait time when I arrived for my appointment and everything thereafter ran with precision. I walked out of the salon about 90 minutes later sans split ends and pesky gray hair and happy versus angry and annoyed and wanting to punch someone in the face. Two thumbs up! I'd give five starts and three thumbs up if they served wine.

I was offered the usual drink and magazines, but agree with Michelle T that the junior staff were pretty robotic. I never pay much to have my hair cut, and I consider £50 far too much for a wash and trim, but if you quote 'online 50% off', it's a good deal. I was going to give an 'a-ok' review, but reading Michelle's reminded me that I too got a different haircut to the one I asked for, and that although it worked out well for me, that is not actually a fine way to run a hairdressing business. Because I left with half price snazzy hair I just smiled to myself at the stylist's arrogance, but thinking about it, how dare he make it up as he went along, without consulting me! Also, the receptionist was pretty pushy about trying to make me sign up to a loyalty card, and looked at me as if my refusal (which I had to give 3 times) was weird. I was not impressed that they used my mobile number, given to secure the booking, to subsequently bombard me with marketing texts. So, as long as you are up for a surprise, go here for the 50% off deal. Otherwise, it's just an expensive central London chain, which I suspect is only of any real interest/use to people who work nearby.

First to review, YAY!!…read more So I'm pretty particular with my hair, and haven't had a proper hair cut in around 2 years (I trim the ends myself), but I wanted a huge change and wanted a hair dresser who I could trust. I searched and searched for a salon around my area who was not only recommended but was a good price. I stumbled across Love Hair, I checked them out on line, and even emailed them to make sure I was booking the right option. I used the online booking system- Treatwell, and ended up with a same day appointment, YAY! When I arrived at Love Hair, I was a tad early, so was happy to wait. Unfortunately I ended up waiting around 30-45mins, which was beyond Jane's control. Luckily, Jane and Jack are both super friendly, and were keeping me updated the whole time. So onto the cut. I LOVE IT! Jane really listened to what I wanted, and took a great pride in her work. Even though she was now running over 45mins behind her schedule, she did not rush me or the cut at any time. Love Hair Brixton is a reasonably new salon, and in a sea of salons their friendliness, passion and skills is what will bring me back.

I have had to return twice or more for a root retouch or where the colourist hasn't listened or realised what strength colour should be put in first place or where grey roots have shown after as little as 2-3 weeks. When I voiced my concerns it appeared they listened but when I returned again, no they hadn't listened at all as same mistakes were made again. You have to ask a few times for a cup of tea! Hectic frantic salon. A couple of the other stylists are ok. Cuts have been good in the past.
