Airways Brewery is located in Kent, WA ~20 miles from Seattle. It's not that far off the highway. Once you get here the lot is darkly lit (if coming at night). It's a fairly small brewery and they have about 7 house beers on tap with another 7 or so guest beers. This place doesn't welcome kids and is not family friendly. The worker was a richard about it too. There were no signs indicating that it was 21 only. His colleague mentioned kids can be outside, but the worker guy was still trying to make it difficult saying all these barriers and had a rude energy about him. Don't go here. read more

Great brewery with a focus on lager beers! What an amazing gem I found while traveling through the area! They make a great Fest Bier and I joked if they had pretzels to go with it AND they did! Not a bad stop! I was at the Airways Bistro a couple years ago and thought that the beer there was just okay. Not quite my cup of tea so to speak but solid enough. I knew for sometime that Airways also had a taproom but didn't make a trip there until recently. Upon my visit to the taproom and not the bistro I actually liked their beer a bit better. I got their Test Pilot IPA which was pretty good. It had a good hoppiness too it and was just what I was looking for, The taproom is enjoyable as well and towards the back of the taproom there is a tip of a real airplane on the wall. Craziness! Anyway the taproom had a nice, mellow vibe to it and the beertender was very pleasant to deal with. Not a bad stop and one that I would consider doing a again at some point. read more

After all this time, I can't believe that I have not written a review. Being a long time customer, from the days in the little business through the "expansion" and now the new location. What a great space on 212th, right off SR 167. MUCH bigger than before.. just to handle the newer jobs that are happening in this part of industrial Kent. Space is great, the staff knowledgeable and friendly.... but it's all about the beer, right? Well you have come to the right place.. Airways really doesn't venture off of there standard brews, which are all fantastic. The Jumbo Juice is one of the newer ones on the menu.. a new favorite of mine. Ratings: 0-5 Jumbo Juice Northeastern Style IPA Their most popular. I like the Jumbo Juice; it's a easy-going, with a Citrus flavor. To me it tastes much like a Pomelo or grapefruit hard cider, with fizz. ****stars. Mosaic Hoppy Pilsner ABV 5.1. The Mosaic has a little bit of hoppiness but, has some flatness in there somehow, when you first taste. it's a little bit like a cream ale at first then after the second sip it gets better so, I give this one, between ***+1/2 Stars. Seventh Anniversary Oat IPA. ABV 5.0. This OAT IPA is a nice drink. It has a touch of bitterness which I like. I would drink it with a light meal or maybe hotdogs. All and all, it's quite refreshing *** stars. Jet City ESB. ABV 5.3 Really nice beer. Good Bitter; it reminds me of the English Bitters from London. Reluctantly (sarcasm there). I would have to give this ***** stars. Nitro Dry Irish Stout ABV 4.4 This is a great nitro I'm picking up coffee but there's no coffee. For an Irish stout this one needs to move to Ireland. It would be great competition for the domestic Irish Stouts. ***** stars The last was a gift taste by Gibbs the Head Brewer. I mention it because it is the beginning of an excellent IPA. He called it, The no name IPA. It has yet to be named. It is Similar to the JumboJuice but, I think it's going to have a little bit more body. I am looking forward to the finished product. read more

Hidden away in an industrial area is this gem of a brewery. They offer 8 and 16oz servings of beer, no flights but are happy to let you sample anything. Their beers were good I liked the pilsner and the summer blonde. The bartender was friendly and seemed to enjoy her job. We were out and about on a nice summer evening and decided to stop by airways for a beer and a bite of food. The patio was open and we were immediately greeted by our waiter. There was a nice sign sitting by the door that listed all the beers on tap and we were given a menu. I decided to have the porter and it was fantastic! the flavor was great ! Sometimes tricky with menus at brew pubs, our entire party was vegetarian so we never know what we are going to get! There was many options but I choice a wonderful panini sandwich that had field roast sausage (veggie of course and tasty). We also got the pretzel with the beer cheese-Awesome! This is one of my favorite places to stop for a beer on my way home from work. Alex brews a great beer! Debbie and Mitch will always serve you with a smile. Come in a few times and they'll know you by name as well. The First Class IPA and Sky Hag Imperial IPA are my favorites. The Sky Hag will definitely erase the memories of your bad day. They also have an ESB, and a stout from the in house brewery, as well as a couple rotating guest taps. Ask for the "Dirty Hag"....about 1/3 stout and 2/3 Sky Hag IPA.....Yummy! Every Thursday, there is something special....usually on cask...sometimes on the Randall. Gets very busy around 5pm on Thursdays....don't worry...the 4pm crowd will be filtering out soon. This place is hidden in the middle of industrial buildings, so if you weren't looking closely you'd probably miss it. But try not to! Ample parking and seating, great selection (even two ciders), fair pricing and a casual atmosphere. I very much enjoyed my saison, it was well balanced and smooth. The place is rather large inside and they have a roll up door in back that's open when the suns out. They also have tv and some small bites so drink up and enjoy. Customer service is also very good. So my friends and I have been frequenting this establishment since before they moved from the old site on West valley highway. Apparently a recent change has prevented them from playing music under the classic rock genre. Considering 90% of the time when we go to the taproom the demographic is 50 + that seems like a strange change in direction. This change seems more geared towards the staff then the clientele. In addition they have implemented a policy of limiting you to four beers no matter how long you've been there. We have therefore decided to take our business to a more customer friendly environment that is more open to considerations of the paying customer. read more

Headed here yesterday with a friend after a nice afternoon walk on Green River trail. We waited a few minutes in line but wanted to make sure our dogs were allowed. Since this is just their taproom location, dogs are allowed! Our bartender even got our two thirsty pups some water. My friend and I both had hazy IPAs that were flavorful and refreshing. The location of their taproom is a bit odd but understandable for a town like Kent. There's plenty of parking and the inside decor/theme was so fun but not overwhelming. It looked like they had a back patio/garage door that could open but it wasn't open when we were there. Lots of friendly folks started filling the space around 5pm. Our bartender was always friendly and happy to help people. Everyone wearing masks and tables had signs indicating they were sanitized. They have some pre-packed food and snacks for purchase but if you're looking for a meal they won't have that at this location. They fill growlers here as well! Alex has a good thing going here. ABC's taproom has been my post work stop most Friday's for over the past year. The Sky Hag IPA is amongst the best of the craft IPAs I've had. So I finally made it to Airways. New breweries pop up around Washington all the time, but they are not always in my local area. I was especially excited about Airways' opening because my two favorite hobbies are aviation and brewing. An aviation-themed brewery sounded like just the ticket. Even though this place is on a main street (196th) it can be difficult to find. It's in one of those large multi-unit industrial buildings, but the actual storefront is not by the parking lot. You have to park then walk down a short path to get to the door. The interior is very nicely decorated with old commercial jetliner photos, and miscellaneous airplane placards are everywhere. Every table has a "PLEASE FASTEN BELT WHEN SEATED" placard. The restroom has the "IT IS A FEDERAL CRIME TO DISABLE SMOKE DETECTOR" sign. Probably the coolest thing they have and what the owner is the most proud of is their tap handles. They are the actual emergency door handles from a Boeing 747. I noticed that even the phone number has "707" in it. Oh did I mention that all the Airways employees have full time jobs at the same major airline in Seatac? When I visited there were 3 regular beers on tap plus one rotating tap. They had a Stout, ESB, Honey Blonde, and the rotating tap was what they called "IPA Plus". It wasn't quite big enough to be a double IPA, but was hopped like one. My favorites were the ESB and the Honey Blonde, which is contrary to my normal style preferences. The food choices are interesting, although a bit limited. You can choose either a piece of landjager or a large phallic pretzel with homemade mustard. Either choice is good. Bottom line is I will go here again. While they could use a little practice on the beer, I have confidence that they will get it down soon. If you are into aviation and/or beer, Airways is totally worth the stop. read more

My wife and I love this place. The brew master works for Alaska so the places is themed in airliners, with a stenciled image and photos of jumbo jets on the wall, as well as taps made from the airliner door handles. This place is tucked away inside an industrial park so at first it was a bit hard to find but that hideaway feeling is what makes it special. Their website (http://airwaysbrewing.com/) is cleanly designed and has a lot of info, including a map. I suggest you bring a copy of it with you when hunting for this place for the first time. The place is also very small. They have a bar and 5 tables (1 the seats 4 and 4 that seats two) so if you get there late you'll probably be standing but from what I have seen it's not too crowded so you'll have the opportunity to strike up a good conversation with others around you. Service is good and everyone is very friendly. Their food consists of a soft pretzels and a stick of pepperoni, as well as free pretzels. Just like the food you get while flying coach, it's not going to sustain you but it takes the edge off while you enjoy their beer. Speaking of the beer, which I think is awesome, the owner has been rolling out different IPA's every two weeks, which is a treat since love IPA. My wife has been sticking with the honey blond which she really enjoys. The place also offers a sampler for those who need to try it all. As soon as the IPA rotation stops, that's my next thing to do. Being a home brewer myself, my only very small complaint is that he doesn't have the beers listed on the wall with info about them (IBUs, OG, Alcohol content, color) but I made the suggestion of displaying the info via aircraft dials or a flight schedule to the waitress, who also did the artwork, so maybe you'll see that info soon. (shameless plug) I have to admit that I didn't want to be the first to post since I didn't want to come one day to find the place packed but I think if the owner gets more business, he'll expand the operation which will be good for all beer lovers. UPDATE: Not only have they expanded their existing location, but they are also adding a new location in downtown Kent, which, as I understand it, will be a bistro....or should I call it a beerstro (rim shot). At their current location, the food has been upgraded to frozen pizza but I still miss the soft pretzels and sticks of pepperoni. Call me pathetic but I kind of liked those snacks. read more

Stopped in on my way back from Seattle. Pretty convenient on the way down I-5. The staff (husband and wife, when I was there) were great. Informative, friendly, helpful. Met some interesting people, definitely felt like a locals joint. The beers were solid, nothing revolutionary. There were four choices and it seems like they have seasonals here and there, but they don't last long. The prices were right too at $4 a pint. There was no food other than chips and microwaveable pizzas, but it seemed that they were OK with others bringing take-out in to chomp on. I have to ding this place big time for atmosphere. The airline thing is clever, and they had some neat touches (emergency handles as tap handles, funny placards from actual jets, etc). Still, the place had the feel of an airport lounge. For some reason, that made me feel uneasy or stressful. They have this one window which they cover with a blue-ish opaque paper, which even furthers the claustrophobic airport feel. I look forward to trying some of their more esoteric beers at upcoming festivals and things but don't feel the need to return to the taproom. I could see how it would appeal to neighborhood folks, but when returning from Seattle I'd rather hit Big Al's, Trade Route, or Fish. read more

Stopped by here today for lunch and a brew. Wow what a hidden gem! If it wasn't for my awesome eyesight I would've missed this place. There is nor marquee or large sign advertising this place. Here's the poop: They had a huge selection of stouts and porters on the menu. Not my cup of tea but do as the Romans right? Te had a huge selection northwest craft beers micro micro brews. They also had a wines local wines as well. Erin was kind enough to to let me sample everything I had a question about before I made my final selection. What made this place head and shoulders above all else was the food! I had a bowl of Irish chowder and a pizza. Both were remarkable! The pizza was loaded full of fresh ingredients and had an awesome garlic basted crust. I honestly did not expect the level of nom nomness to come out of such a small kitchen. Clay really takes pride in what he makes; it's evident in how the food tastes. . He mentioned that he was working on a pairing menu incorporating fresh produce from the farmers market around the corner. I'm excited to see what he comes up with. Beer was awesome! A truly hidden gem in the shadow of the Seattle airport. My father and I were wrapping up a trip to the area, flying out the next morning. We actually found this brewery on Yelp and made the quick 10 minute drive from our hotel across from the airport to the brewery. The brewery was a little hard to find, being in the middle of an office park, however once we found it, we were impressed. The clientele was definitely local which gave the place some character. Bartenders were friendly and found us a seat at the bar. My dad had their Octoberfest beer which he enjoyed, I had the Sky Hag IPA which was one of the best I've had, second only to perhaps Jai Alai from Cigar City in Florida. They have mini pizzas to snack on some nights of the week, though we opted just for the beer as we were going out to dinner afterwards. I like this brewery for a completely different reason than Big Al's. 1.) The beer is great. I generally prefer Big Al's seasonals, but Airways has a great smokey porter. This place is in the middle of industrial Kent (Boeing), so parking and seating are always tight. They just expanded which has made it a little better. I'm a HUGE fan of Airways Beer and Bistro in downtown Kent, so after months of begging my boyfriend, he finally took me to the Airways Brewing Company. Yes, I fall in love with breweries easily, but this one was different. It has a very small tasting room, and only a few of their selections on tap, HOWEVER - the service is awesome, the beers are always awesome, and the people who come here all seemed very mellow and cool. I am still dreaming of the rum-barrel aged Midnight Departer we tried... I might be having withdrawals.... The brewery has a lot of character, and they don't "try" to have character - the place just has a personality of it's own! The bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and took us into the back and let us browse around and see how they make their wonderful beers.
