So I wanted to simply catch a Lyft from Long Island City to the airport but balked at the almost $200 price tag. So I humped my huge suitcase into the depths of the subway (elevators were of course out) and made my way to the air train. It was at most $15 total between the two trains AND was faster. This elevated train takes you from the Jamaica subway station to JFK and back. You do have to buy a separate ticket for this train but there are self serve kiosks everywhere. It has a killer view given its elevation and its really quick. It was reasonably clean, had killer views of the airport and the ramp, and again quick and relatively cheap

I just love the Airtrain system. It was great when they put it in and I am disappointed that their not putting one in place for LaGuardia. The review won't change much from station to station. Coming to the Airtrain is a little bit of a walk from Jet Blue, but very doable and easy. THey even have the automatic traveling floors if you don't want to walk. There was plenty of seating inside the car and a very quick ride over to Jamaica. There is plenty of signage in the terminal and also some staff here to help you. This stop is also for Rental Cars. I truly believe that the AirTrain was the best addition to JFK Airport since the airport's inception. It makes moving around a pleasure. Also, they seem to spend a fair amount of time keeping these trains clean. KUDOs to the whole AirTrain system.

Quite easy to get around at this station. There are escalators and elevators here. If you travel light with just a small carry on bag, this is a good option. The turnstile is quite narrow and I saw people struggling to push the big suitcases through. It is a hive of activities by the ticket area, so best to already have your metro card loaded with money ready. It's $8.25 per trip. There are clear signages everywhere indicating where to go. The AirTrain itself is clean and spacious. Enough room for people and luggages. The frequency is quite fast too. It's a different story once you walk over to the subway station heading into Brooklyn and Manhattan. $2.50 per trip for the subway using the same metro card.

$7.75 and just about worth it for the convenience of getting halfway from JFK to Manhattan. Signage is clear and easy, considering that in many cases, the people taking the train are not from around here and don't know where things are. At the station, plenty of kiosks on each side to purchase your metrocard because it's $7.75 in either direction to pass through that turnstile. There are a few helpers here too in case you have some trouble and need assistance. The entire terminal is handicapped accessible with both elevators and escalators to get between street level and the ticketing concourse and onto or off the Airtrain. Is it perfect? Well, it sure would be nice if there was a direct train from JFK to Manhattan. But since that's unlikely to ever happen, it will be the Airtrain to the Subway to another Subway and that's four stars for me. [Review 15634 overall - 231 in New York - 1138 of 2021.]

I live in Jersey but on a recent trip I would save $600 if I was to fly out of JFK. I checked the fees on Uber and lyft and it's like over $90 to JFK without tip so I was thinking what about that "A Train to the Plane" ? Well that train to the plane is no more , and no more bus detour for those that did take it, now they got a lite rail cars instead to the airport. It's been a while since I took the Subway not only is walking to my job better for me but I don't have to deal with the possible underground urban hell that the Subway can be. Well I went for it, $200 is a lot of money for a guy that flies economy class, I took the E train to Jamaica Station but you can also do the A train to Howard Beach Station. Once there you pay $8 one way to ride the AirTrain to all the terminals at JFK and that's on top of the Subway fare, and my bus ride to PABT. Beside NYC riders other travelers where getting on from other stops some with three and four big pieces of luggage. My fear of getting slash or jumped for my bag diminished. But The Jamaica Station was filthy with the smell of urine and their was a homeless guy spread on the floor. I was immediately approached by a psychic asking for a handout, who spoke to me in Spanish and said "se que eres boricua", "I know you are Puerto Rican", LOL, well I gave her a five, who knows what else she knew and would blast out on me. Well I made it to the airport terminal 7 and did the revise trip on my return, only this time from the airport to Jamaica Station and paying $8 again there is one stop for airport hotels and all the car rental companies too so not everyone is planing on taking the Subway. Would I do it again, maybe, it all depend on what I save in time and money vs. flying of of Newark but make no mistake taking the Subway to the airport is nothing to rave about.

Great way to get to jfk really fast. The fair is $ 7,75 up from the $ 5.00 it use to cost. This is my quick way to terminal 7 jfk airport. When ever my bicycle is out of commission, the airtrain never fails me. The ride from suptin blvd to the terminal is about less than 10 minutes, but if you want to get to terminal 7 & 8 faster. Get off at terminal 1 and transfer to the other side and go 1 stop to t8 or 2 stops to t7 .instead of doing around all the stops . This way saves me time to get to my terminal, I have been doing this for about 12 yrs, when ever I don't ride my bicycle to lefferts blvd to the airtrain over there, to get the all terminal train. But if one side is only working. You just have to go to the other terminals to get to t7 & t8. Always remember all terminals airtrain stays in the airport for the terminals ,its the Howard beach train. And jamaica airtrain takes you out the airport.you don't have to pay using the airtrain in the terminals.you only pay when you exit at jamaica suptin blvd, or Howard beach station.

The convenience of the AirTrain is amazing. It saves so much time from sitting in traffic going to the airport. We always take the long island railroad to the AirTrain when we are traveling going to JFK airport. I love it 7.75 going and coming beats sitting in traffic and dealing with parking and most of all the drivers and driving. It's always clean when we walk through from Lirr to AirTrain. upon waiting and riding on the trains to the airport to me it's pretty exciting to see the Manhattan skyline as well as the traffic streets, etc. Knowing you don't have to sit on the expressways in all that traffic, the air train flies right through the stations, drop off keeps going. Safety is great you see security everywhere. But the walk from the Airtrain to the airport checkpoint is a walk. It's worth it. Will ride again come next vacation?

If you're looking for a traffic free easy-peezy way to get to Kennedy Airport from Jamaica station LIRR, AirTrain Jamaica is the way to go! For less than $8.00 you can get you a metro card to board the AirTrain from Jamaica Station, and 6 minutes later you will be at John F Kennedy airport without the stress and congestion of traffic. The AirTrain is a shuttle train that you can catch right from Jamaica Station without even going outside (which is a plus in inclement weather); it make stops at all the rental car locations, federal circle and all airline terminals.

Located roughly 4 miles north of John F. Kennedy International Airport and in the heart of Queens, this is one of the major transfer points to get into through the city and the neighboring boroughs. After a long (5+ hour) flight into JFK Airport, I took the Jamaica AirTrain (from JFK to the LIRR Station). And this was around 11:30pm Eastern Time. However, once we arrived at the station, I used the MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) app that told us exactly where to go. There were even a couple of employees that told us how the payment system works (which was $10 per person as of October 2025). Once we actually arrived to the Jamaica LIRR Station, I must say that this place has a very stark uninviting look to it. Definitely one that I would recommend avoiding during the wee hours of the night. However, there were other "tourists" waiting to connect to Penn Station which all New Yorkers know is in the heart of Manhattan. I only know this since they had several carry-on pieces of luggage as well. The reason for the three stars? This station wreaked of urine and sweat. And if that's not enough, I saw a gentleman urinating directly on the tracks. But the icing on the cake was seeing a big rat crawling on the side of the tracks. Seeing this may make your stomach turn upside down but this is a big metropolitan city and you must expect the unexpected. I am also from a big city (San Francisco) so witnessing this did not gross me out that much. All in all, the "Jamaica LIRR Station" leaves a lot to be desired. But I highly recommend coming here during the commute times or at least before 10:00pm when the vast majority of the general public is already at their destinations. However, the ticket information employee was helpful as well a local that told us exactly which train to take to get to Manhattan. With that said and done, I am giving this subway station just an average three stars.
