Sad day for me im 62 just come onto this page to see if the centre still exists.let me explain,when i was 13/ 14 my mum worked in the cafeteria at the bowl and i left school at 14 (approx1963) and mum got me job as traniee mechanic,you have to remember in those days bowling was a wow thing at the time and 24/7 open and boy was it packed out 24/7 the only quiete time i can remember were between 0900 1200 that was the only time you had time for cleaning ,as for us mechanics we just had to take out a lane as and when a machine needed work doing .Any pop star film stars that didnt come in this centre either day or night wasnt worth knowing you name them they were there some time or other,Jagger,Mc cartney all the beatles and stones,i was on nights (yes i was only 15) and at first i was a bit stage struck seeing so many pop stars and actors and actresses,but after a while you got used to it and they started to be just normal people.One night balls kept getting stuck on a certain lane on a regular basis so i decided to shut lane down for 5 mins (even though people were on the lane .so i went down to the front of lane and took up ball tunnel boards to have a look and low and behold there was
long necklass hanging just by the ball lift ramp.i was about to pull it out when a bloke from behind me said well done mate i didnt realise it had come off,as i looked round it was keith richards (of the stones) it was there balls that kept getting stuck and that was the reason why . read more
