Decent service but could have been faster. Happy overall but the waiting was painful.

I wanted to buy a 4K dashcam (DC) to replace my 720 DC. I googled for a place that sells DCs in…read moreCalgary and found Mobile Sounds, which has the appearance of a professional business offering a wide variety of automobile accessories. I didn't do any 4K DC research online before going and I was OK in trusting and paying a DC expert. I walked into Mobile Sounds and after being asked how I could be helped, I specifically said I was looking to buy a 4K DC. Paul said they sell this one DC that uses the Sony chip which makes the DC superior to the other DCs on the market. Spoiler alert: 80% of the DCs on the market use this specific Sony chip, not the game changer as suggested. I said I hadn't done any research on 4k DCs so I didn't know what to do. They offered to install the DC that afternoon, which apparently other times could be a wait of a week. I felt comfortable buying from a professional store and purchased the DC with installation that afternoon. That's where the purchase started to unravel. After 15 minutes of trying, Paul was finally able to connect my phone to the DC. Paul highlighted the DC features through the app. I then left for home, which is 2 hours from Mobile Sounds. Once home, I used my computer to compare the video footage from the new DC to my old DC. The difference in video quality was negligible between the 2 DCs. I then did research on the new DC and the new DC is a 2K DC. Paul sold me a 2K DC after I specifically said I wanted to buy a 4K DC. After reviewing the video, I inserted the micro-SD card into the new DC and the card went directly into the DC body and was loose inside the DC, not in the micro-SD holder. I wasn't about to insert another micro-SD card into the new DC but I still had my old DC to use. I put the new DC into the original box and I drove the 2 hours back to Mobile Sounds to inform Paul of the new DC being 2K and not 4K (as I had requested) and the DC being of no use because now the micro-SD card was loose in the DC. Paul said he would contact his distributor and get back to me. A couple of days later Paul called and admitted the DC was not 4K and the design of the DC can allow the micro-SD card to slide right into the DC. No problem, the distributor will send a replacement DC for an easy swap out. I returned to Mobile Sounds and Paul offered to switch out the DC for a 4K DC. Paul gave me a few 4K options and the price difference I would have to pay for each 4k DC. Paul also said he would charge me half the cost of the installation time for a new 4K DC as the installation kit is different for each DC. Hard to believe I would be charged any installation time after Paul originally sold me a DC that wasn't 4K. I took the pricing information on the 4K cameras to do research. With life going on, Mobile Sounds limited business hours (not open evenings/weekends), and living 2 hours away, I didn't get back to Mobile Sounds until November. As soon as I walked in, Paul said the offer was off the table. I asked why and he said because I've been using the DC for 2 months and the DC is no longer new. I said the DC is at home sitting in a box the whole time. Why does Paul feel the need to make false claims? I had no intention of using the DC because I wasn't about to put another micro-SD card in the DC and risk losing the card. He said he would have to look at the current 4K DC to see what the offer would be now. If the original offer had a deadline that was so life and death, why didn't Paul mention the deadline when he originally presented the offer or at least call me and ask me what I wanted to do before the offer "expired"? Paul had a brand new DC replacement from the distributor for the DC that had the loose micro-SD card inside. From what I see, Paul is out zero money returning the old DC to the distributor and having a new DC in inventory. Then I can use the credit from the old DC to put towards a new 4k DC. Paul quickly exchanged the DC and didn't offer to look up anything, forcing my hand to take the DC. I shockingly left and started using the DC. While I am driving the DC will periodically power down for 30 seconds and then power up again. In December the module became available for the heated seats in the vehicle. The technicians couldn't get the heated seats to work. After a couple of failed appointments, I said there is a DC connected somewhere to the vehicle's power. Troubleshooting was done and the cause was the DC wiring done by Mobile Sounds did not have the connector fully seated in the Body Control Module. The DC wires were fully connected and then the heated seats worked. The cost for diagnosis was over $950. $735 for a DC I didn't ask for and now $950 to the dealership because of shoddy installation work by Mobile Sounds. To say the least, I am not happy at all. If there is a problem with your purchase at Mobile Sounds, Paul will make you feel like you are the reason for the problem and Mobile Sounds is the victim.
