We recently took our family guests to Airboats & Alligators and had a blast. Because it was mating season, we saw a lot of gators, beautiful birds and even some cows grazing near the shore in the lake. They have some cool tropical birds on their front entryway that are always fun to chat with! We have taken numerous guests here and always find the staff to be super friendly and the airboat drivers knowledgeable. It is a fun and educational ride for people of all ages and the cost is reasonable. There are other airboat operators who do the fast twists and turns in the mangroves, but I personally like this ride on Lake Trafford. Highly recommend! read more

Brought my grandchildren for an adventure and primarily see some alligators. We saw many many alligators and if fact it was crazy just how many there were---large and small. The lake and area was impressive as well. The reason for the 3 star is that we were told to be there 15 minutes early and then actually waited 45 minutes in the hot sun for our ride to start. The captain of the boat was knowledgeable friendly and very nice, HOWEVER, he did get us stuck in a low lying mangrove area. We actually had to be towed out by another boat who actually just happened to be in the area. This put us further behind in schedule AND I'm sure shortened our actual tour because we went right back to the dock area. The captain could have at least apologized for getting us all stuck. Also---I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting but the store area was pretty sketchy and run down to say the least. Again--the big positive is we saw tons of alligators which I guess was the point of to begin with. read more

Great fun, for anybody. The airboats are large enough for big families and groups. Bring a hat and some water. (There is a convenience store at the dock). Also, bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to loud noises, although the boats do have communal ear protection if you absolutely need it. They are not quite as loud as other airboats I have been on before. You get to cruse completely around Lake Trafford, it's well worth it. I'm a Florida native and have never seen so many alligators before! This is a must-do for anybody living or visiting the Ave Maria/Immokalee area. We brought visiting relatives and they had a blast. This was an awesome tour! This is about an hour north of Everglades City, but I considered that to be a positive rather than a negative for several reasons -- first of all, it isn't as touristy. More importantly perhaps is that this is a freshwater lake, so way more alligators -- we saw close to a dozen, and this was in the off-season, since they don't like to come out when it's super hot. And don't be fooled because it's a lake -- a lot of open water, but also a lot of mangrove mazes as well. To top it all off, the guide and the people running the place are super friendly down-home people that really treated us well. read more

FANTASTIC!! Cant recommend this place enough! We went to Everglades City to an airboat tour and only seen 2 alligators. We seen two here before even loading the airboat! We seen A LOT of alligators! Wayyyy too many to count! We came at 8am because we were told it's best time to see them, before it gets too hot.. and he was right! We brought our 2 year old and 5 year old and they enjoyed it just as much as we did if not more! The owners were awesome too! MUST VISIT THIS PLACE! read more

We did the hour tour on the 28th of February with Grant and on a cool windy day he did a great job finding birds and alligators. We easily saw two or three dozen with some pushing 10' or more. He was informative and well versed on their habits. Swamp tours aren't for everyone but I think you can trust they will do their best to bb sure you see the swamp and the animals that live there. read more

The owner was so kind and gracious to give me a cloth to keep my already sunburned legs out of the sun. On a recent visit to Florida it came up that I had never seen an alligator, so we chose this tour on the recommendation of a Florida friend who recommended it as the real deal. The airboat ride was incredibly smooth (loud, but that's just how it is!) and the driver pointed out alligators as well as unique and rare birds and some other types of wildlife. It was a bit cloudy and windy when we went, so we didn't see as many alligators as we expected, but of course, it was still about thirty more than I had ever seen before! The ONLY reason I am giving three stars instead of four or five is because it seemed like our driver was in such a hurry. The two people I was with agreed that when we saw alligators pop up, or even the time we saw a large group of gators, he didn't ever stop the boat and let us observe them. That was the intention of the tour, and we thought we'd have some time to really SEE alligators. But zip, zoom, off we went, each time, even when we saw an extremely rare and special bird. It was ESPECIALLY funny because at one point, we saw a handful of wild BULLS just standing in the water. Nearly everyone in the boat just sat there with gaping mouths because these humungous, handsome, horned animals seemed so out of place in the marshy environment! If the boat had stopped for longer than a second, we could have taken some pictures, asked the driver what the deal was with the unexpected bulls, and probably seen some gators at the same time. Maybe he was worried they'd charge the boat...? (By the way, if anyone can explain the presence of those animals, PLEASE DO. So bizarre.) In sum: I got what I wanted out of the tour--gator sightings--but I wish the driver had let us observe them, and actually paused the boat at times. My party wondered if it was his last ride of the day or something, because it sounds like other people haven't had this experience! read more

Quite the interesting experience. I took a swamp tour in New Orleans and this was fairly different. No extensive safety discussion or official educational session, but still interesting nonetheless. Just a more casual business! You arrive at a very randomly old house near a lake. Arrive early so you can look at all the parrots and snakes. The tour itself was an hour. Earmuffs were provided, no seatbelts but we didn't go super fast. We saw tons of gators and birds. The guide was knowledgeable about the names of animals. read more

This was about an hour or so from Sanibel so we made a side trip to take the kids on an airboat tour. It's in a small farming town that isn't at all touristy. When you pull up you go into a country store and purchase your tickets. The older man that works it (and probably owns it) is very nice and entertaining with the kids. They also have some birds, snakes, and gators you can watch them feed, and if you ask you can hold a baby gator too. Our tour captain did a great job showing everyone what birds were what and about thier habitats. The kids and I enjoyed ourselves. read more

My mother treated us to a real Florida experience. We went on the airboat to see alligators. Well we saw a lot of alligator eyes sticking out of the water. Not many out of the water. The tour guide knew a lot about the animals and plants but we could barely hear him because the boat is so loud. Oh and he had a heavy southern accent so this NYer had a hard time understanding him. lol It was cool to ride in an airboat. Can't say I have ever done that before. My mother said the last time she went it was warmer and saw tons of alligators out of the water. So I guess it's all about timing with this tour. They also have other animals in cages to see but they weren't very clean and seemed small for an animal to spend it's life in. Obviously, that's just my opinion. I brought my 16 year old daughter, and 2 year old son. It was a beautiful day, and a nice and relaxing trip for us. I've lived in Florida my whole life, and see alligators in the lake by my house all of the time, BUT it still takes my breath away to see a 20 foot gator right in front of you! We also saw some little babies, and once we got back to the dock, My 2 year old got to hold one. It was a fun trip. The guide was great! The entire staff was super friendly. We went with four adults and two children (9 and 5). Everyone had a great time and we saw all the wildlife you'd expect. I was hesitant at first since this wasn't in the "Everglades" proper but after reading reviews from those in and around Everglades City, it sounded like some of the excursions down there were hit and miss seeing alligators and other wildlife. We must have seen 60+ alligators, so no issue there. They were literally everywhere. The tour guide was great and made sure to explain everything we were seeing including plants, bird species, etc.. The only down side was I had seen on a few other tours they had headsets with two-way communication. The headsets here were just for noise reduction. No biggie as those others were the same companies with complaints about not seeing squat. Another thing off the bucket list! Highly recommended. read more

We are new Florida residents may 2016 and had taken a few airboat rides down in the Everglades off 41. Our neighbors told us about Airboats & Alligators in Lake Trafford as it was closer. The said it was great...so off we went in November to take our first ride. We have been back 4 times now with various guests from the north and have absolutely LOVED it each time. We always see multiple Alligators, but additionally the birds were amazing. Ibis, herons, egrets, anhingas, cormorants, moorhens, even an eagle and a roseate spoonbill! The water plants and landscape are varied, with grasses, trees and other lovely species. The people are terrific! Wonderful people to take your reservation, (do call in advance) and great local guides. We now know both cap'n Bubba & Cap'n Fred and they both are great! They explain what you are seeing, answer your questions, take you into unique little spots, and really take the time to make sure you see the beauty and have time for pictures! They are also very patient with kids, as our 7 & 8 yr old grandsons were along for one ride and they helped make a difference showing them the baby gators. If you enjoy the outdoors, This one will be a trip highlight for sure! read more

We had a great experience. It was about a 45 min drive from fort Meyers. Everyone there was very helpful and nice. We saw a lot of gators definitely more than I expected! Our driver was very nice and took his time stopping and sometimes turning around to get a better view of the alligators. We saw other birds as well and even a bald eagle. The shop was small but had gator heads and stuffed animals along with bait and beer haha! Very awesome experience got some great videos and pictures up close and personal. All around a great experience and would recommend it to everyone looking to see some alligators and other wildlife. read more

Our family was on vacation at the South Seas Resort in Captiva the end of April. To celebrate our sons 11th Birthday we decided this would be great excursion. He was in heaven, wind whipping through his hair, gators and birds in abundance made for a unforgettable experience! The place has birds that talk (my son loved this), snakes(one that was huge!) and we even saw "Santa", apparently this is where he hangs during his off season. Wow! Captain Greg gave us the ride of our life. Tons of wildlife on this tour. An hour long boat ride that was both thrilling and beautiful. We saw huge gators, baby gators, heron with a Michael Phelps wingspan, turtles, many types of bird. The scenery is beautiful and diverse. We took a tour last year in Everglades City, but prefer this one as we saw so much more wildlife and the ride was twice as long. We talked about this tour the rest of the day. Just awesome. read more
