It is usually a paid parking, but I think this month of December for Christmas, one of the store staff told me that it was free this month. Because I was looking for the pay station and he said for Thanksgiving and Christmas, this month is free. That's super nice of the city to do that. I also saw that there was a banner in town that this month is free for parking. Also, very surprisingly it was a very warm day today. It was like 70° for December! I'm like freezing back at home in San Francisco with 55° at 10 AM. Beach was very empty. Maybe like two groups that went surfing. Definitely recommend coming here to see the village, I've still has its colors. I was told that it faded a little bit, but still beautiful to visit.

Nestled right on the picturesque Capitola Beach, this 855 foot pier was sadly damaged in 2023 by…read moresevere storms, ripping off part of the pier deck and eventually partially collapsing the two businesses housed at the end of this pier, Wharf House Restaurant and Capitola Boat and Bait. Since then, the wharf has thankfully been restored at a cost of $8M, of which $425K was raised through local efforts. And although Wharf House has not re-opened, Capitola Boat and Bait has fortunately resumed operations at a new, temporary location on the pier. I have fond memories of renting a skiff at the bait shop and heading out with my friends to do some fishing. And am really glad to see the business survive such a disaster and re-open after an extended shutdown. Addition to skiff rentals, you can rent kayaks and fishing gear here and do some fishing either on the pier or on the water. The pier now also hosts various local events and live music. Offering fun activities to enjoy in addition to the beach itself. A must-visit if you find yourself in or driving by the small but beautiful town of Capitola.

Even better, it was a seamless experience to renew my license. I checked in before I got there and my number was up when I walked in. I was there for less than 10 mins. And unlike most DMV staff, the staff here were friendly and seemed to enjoy their job. The best DMV experience of all time.

When you get here the appt line and non-appt line share the same double doors so get in the correct…read moreline. The non appointment line was at least 15ppl deep and wrapped around the building. The appt line was no wait for check in. With that being said schedule THAT appointment! Aside from the typical sit and wait til your number is called they have a system to control the chaos. With 15 windows and 6 clerks working hard to process the craziness that comes with DMV stuff the overall atmosphere was calm and subdued: no angry people, no antsy drivers, no rude employees. I had an appt at 2pm but checked in early at 1:45pm. Total time spent here for waiting and processing was 40min. I was absolutely happy about that.
