Custom Moving & Storage did a local move for me, literally two blocks up the road but down a few flights of stairs. They were great. They came and scoped out the job beforehand to write me a quote. They were accommodating to my schedule, showed up right on time, and all four movers were professional and friendly. They paid attention to my moving instructions, took care with my things, and were speedy without being sloppy. They all worked together well as a team and I mostly stayed out of their way and let them do their thing. I had a few pieces of furniture that needed to be taken apart and reassembled and they did it all no problem. Their pricing was competitive with other movers and the quality of their work was much higher than I've experienced with other companies during other moves. I can't say enough about how wonderful these movers are! My move included a couple of rooms of furniture, including antique family heirlooms, from a house on a dirt road high on a hill. They negotiated the tricky driveway with no problem (up & down!) and moved the furniture efficiently and carefully. Mike and Bobby are friendly, and did an outstanding job. What a bitter disappointment :( My wife and I used Custom to move from Barnard, VT to Lebanon, NH last year, and had a fantastic experience. The three guys who moved us were friendly, VERY professional, prepared to handle anything we threw at them, and were very fast. The three guys we had originally were gone. Instead, a husband-and-wife team showed up. Though they had a large enough van, they were barely prepared, in terms of supplies and equipment, for what we had to move, which in this case, was a very SMALL subset of our total belongings (we moved out of a house, and into a studio in Chelsea). Whenever any item was too awkward or bulky, I was required to give verbal permission to move it, and the man waived every responsibility for anything that might happen if he moved it. Sure enough, when we got to NYC, a few very expensive and important pieces of furniture were in fact damaged, and when I confronted the mover about it, all he had for me, was blame and recrimination. Multiple movers have moved this furniture all over the eastern seaboard, including three dodgy Russians who barely spoke any english. None of them had any problem moving this furniture, not even the last crew from Custom. What's more, I PAID for $20k of insurance to cover any damages. So, why, when something gets damaged, am I only getting push-back and excuses? What's more, when the couple got to new york with our stuff, it took them OVER AN HOUR (parked square in the middle of 24th street, I might add), to decide what to do with our stuff. Then, it took them another THREE AND A HALF HOURS to get it out of their truck and up to our apartment. Half way through this process, I had to go to the building management to ask for an extension on keeping the loading dock doors open, and ended up going to the basement and grabbing armloads of our stuff MYSELF, and bringing it up, while the pair were doing god-knows-what. I literally did 1/3 of the moving job myself. As a gesture of generosity for that, we were offered $100 off the move cost. Big deal. You've already cost us hundreds in furniture repairs, offered no recourse through the insurance, and BLAMED ME, to boot. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll never use Custom for anything ever again. read more

Very fast and efficient. Nothing was damaged in the move. They were courteous and had good humor. The minimum review length is ridiculous.

This is mostly because I had a scheduled appointment and they had my number wrong in the system. 5 days prior to my appointment, I called because I had not received communication regarding my move. I got a call back letting me know they had cancelled all appointments. I would highly recommend writing the number down and reading back the number to ensure correct information is recorded. read more

We could not be more pleased with Custom Moving and Storage. They moved us from Ct to Nh. Everything was handled professionally and on time. Mike, Trevor, Evan, and Chris were kind, considerate, and very personable. mail. We already had a few pieces of furniture in the Nh house which needed to be moved to different rooms before bringing in the things from Ct. No problem. They kindly moved everything we needed. All the Ct furniture was brought and set up carefully. They positioned furniture and in some cases re-positioned it when we changed our minds. We have a baby grand piano. When they took it apart in Ct, they discovered the locking block was broken and had apparently been taped together in some prior move. Yikes! That means the piano could have collapsed at any time! When they delivered the piano in Nh, they'd made a new locking block and repaired the cracked one just so we'd have a spare. Fantastic! When the guys finished and drove out with the truck, they stopped and Mike got out. The tires had made small ruts in our gravel driveway. Mike goes into the garage, gets a shovel, and fills the ruts. I mean, who does that? So, very very nice. Custom Moving and Storage has my highest recommendation. Thank you for a great move!!! read more

Although they were recommended to me by a local acquaintance, I was concerned about these movers since the local reviews were excellent but the yelp review about a New York City move was not -- and Manhattan was where I needed my things to be. Chris at Custom Moving couldn't have been more responsive with a reasonable explanation of what led to the unfavorable review, and I felt confident that they would do my job right -- and they did. (Whew!) Not only were they careful with my things (they carefully packed or protected anything that was not already boxed up), but they were also great about letting me know where they were at every point along the route, from setting out to arrival. Both of the movers were pleasant and helpful and all my things arrived in good shape, on time, and for the price agreed upon. I appreciated that I could pay by personal check, something that doesn't happen in the city. Dealing with everyone at Custom Moving made me remember how nice folks are in the Upper Valley! read more
