Tiramisu
Ivy L.

Not impressed by the food. Had the table d'hôte for dinner, and got the sushi and sashimi combo. The maki's were very thinly cut to make more pieces. There was also not a lot of fish in them. It was obvious that the fried ones were old, because the fish roe has had time to stain the rice. The sashimi and sushis did not taste fresh either; I've had better grocery store sushi than this. I didn't even finish my sashimi's, which is definitely a first. Many of my friends didn't finish theirs either. The salad and the tiramisu were not bad; the portion and price were reasonable too. The service was good although slow, but we were a lot of people. 1/5 star for the sushi, 3/5 stars for the rest.

This place is very good. It was my first time and I went because I was told it was better than Maiko which is right next door. I ordered only the chef specials. I loved 5 out of 7 rolls we chose. And two were out of this world. Their fish is fresh and I love that the pieces are not gigantic. Each roll comes with 8 pieces per roll so you can fully enjoy a few bites of each. My absolute favorite rolls were besame mucho and salmon sensation. Wow! I would definitely come back. The price is reasonable for good quality sushi. 7 specialty rolls filled two people with a big appetite. We also had white wine and the prices are also very good between 35-46$ a bottle for good white wine. I do agree that it is better than maiko by far!!

Tempura appetizer

This place is located in the West Island, behind a strip mall. Place was pretty full when we got there on a Saturday evening. Their specialty is sushi but we had a craving for teriyaki. Took the salmon teriyaki as well as the beef teriyaki. Salmon was well cooked and delicious but beef wasnt good. Took some tempura as appetizer which was good. Sashimi plate was satisfying as well. I find the tempura plates are overpriced...overall good. Enjoy!

One of my favourite spots to visit when I get back to Montreal. Their appetizers are phenomenally elaborate - and so, so tasty. Wait staff are really nice, and the service is great ... plus they usually have some really cool local art on the walls. I'd recommend their seaweed salad and just about all of their spicy rolls (and I'm not usually a spicy roll fan). Best part - the sushi is actually fresh.

5 year anniversary..site of first date

Site of the first date with my love and I...very beautiful presentation for their food and very fresh. But...I know the chef left for Katoreya years back..and to be honest...the food and prices are better at Katoreya, as is the service. I gave it 4 stars because it is still very good and they have lowered their prices and have a table d'hôte that is a good deal. The environment is pretty, but far from intimate. I like that they showcase local artist's work to purchase. It was incredibly sweet for my boy to surprise me with this walk down memory lane..it is worth a visit, but my loyalty stays with Katoreya.

I was really surprised by this place! Wasn't expecting much frankly. Aikawa has the same owners as Sho-Dan and offers more of a down-to-earth atmosphere while keeping the same quality in their sushis. I went there for a take-out and was pleasantly greeted and served by their host. She has been able to ask the kitchen to accommodate my requests without charging me extra and gave useful advices on how I should order while maximizing the amount of sushis I can get for the same price. The sushis came in a high-quality circular take-out box and was presented very nicely. The choices were creative and flavorful. But i must admit that it was a little pricey as well but all worth it!

This is my 3rd visit. I came for dinner with my friend on the 28th. We made a reservation in case, but there was plenty of tables available. The overall service was very good, friendly staff. I really like the decor and paintings on the wall. You can even purchase them if you want. I like how there are tvs which display the food, it gives you a visual of what you are ordering. We each got a sushi platter which was a good amount of food. My platter were just 3 different makis including the chef specialty called Twister. I finished with tiramisu and vanilla ice cream for dessert. The staff was nice to wait until we finished, they did force us put even though they were about to close. The location is hidden and tucked away making it difficult for some to see when passing a by. My friend never knew it existed until she went on Yelp.

Greatest Sushi in West Island, probably in the whole Montreal. A bit pricey but totally worth it.

I think they just left it on the counter in a bag the whole time instead of a fridge, or they gathered older pieces and threw them into our order, because the rice was hard and crunchy while others overly soft, and the avocado was brown instead of green. Maybe they thought we were not going to complain since it was take out? BITCH! I'M COMPLAINING! Now, I've ordered sushi from other places before, left it in my own fridge overnight, and it was still yummy the next day. That is why I feel something funny happened with this order, because the rice was hard for alot of pieces, while others were too soft. Kamakazee was soft, no flavor in everything, and avocado was brown and blotchy instead of a healthy green. The only thing that was good, was the pickled ginger and the fact that their little cups of soy sauce was actually enough for each person. And they gave plenty of ginger and wasabe. All this is where they earned their 1 point rating I'm forced to give them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big sushi expert. I frequent all-you-can-eat sushi, so I know what to expect. I was always a big fan of Kanda's back when they were near Fairview. I looked online and saw they were the cheapest for take out on large orders, so tried them out on their sources location. Very sad. This was supose to be a surprise for my sister, who just delivered a baby, and didn't want to go out yet. She's been craving sushi for a year lol and... this was what we brought her lol she barely touched it... and was too polite to complain. She is not a sushi expert either, since she use to adore coming with us to these cheap all you can eat sushi places... This was bad. Very, very bad. I have not tried this locations' indoor all-you-can-eat, but I'm scared to now. They don't seem to care. Well... fk you too then, right?

Got the same as usual, volcano poke bowl (fave order) and to my disappointment, it was a good 1/3 portion smaller. I paid almost $15 for it! Also, veryyy slow service. Although you will find that (not stale though), and it's pretty good, if you have time for a proper sit-down meal, you will be pleasantly surprised to find some of the better sushi in the city. Here are my favourites: - 911 - Sweetheart - Philly - Saumon épicé - Inferno - Smoky (All of that costs about $50 tax-in). This sushi is seriously GREAT. I have but one complaint about the restaurant, and that is that it's sub-zero in there. And I mean like, arctic-cold. Year round. In summer, I have to bring a sweatshirt. And in winter, nothing will do. Tonight I had to wear my jacket, a huge scarf around my head and neck, and leather mitts (not the easiest to eat with chopsticks but kudos to me, I did it!). They actually have air conditioning going all year round. A constant cold blast of air coming from the vents, which you can't avoid no matter where you sit. I truly don't get it. Speaking of sitting, they have some cute little tables with comfy couches and arm chairs to sit in... There are only a handful of tables in the place, but never more than 1-2 tables are occupied when I've been here. I think a lot of people do take-out. Anyway, dress for the North Pole and head over to this sushi shop and you'll walk away cold on the surface but warm on the inside from having had some seriously tasty eats.

We were seated in the semi private area which has two tables and can accommodate 16 people comfortably... Maybe 2 more if you squeeze a bit. Drinks: I decided to embrace the unique experience by ordering a Ramune pop where you have to punch down a glass bead so that you can pour the soda. It's served into a glass with a lime flavored popsicle to give it extra flavor. Ordering: the way the menu works is that everyone gets the same things included with their meal. The only thing different is the protein ordered. - Onion broth: thin but oh so packed with umami flavor! - Salad: pretty good with light vinaigrette - Mushrooms: mmmhh fried and covered in soy sauce - Shrimp: delish and drown it in the tangy dipping sauce - Mixed Veggies: helps balance all the meatiness - Addictive ground ginger soy sauce: can eat this with everything! - Tangy chili sauce: love the flavor - Bowl of rice - Orange creamsicle ice cream: yay for ice cream! - Cup of Jasmine tea: wash down all that flavor The meats: with 3 choices of beef from least to most expensive--Beef Samurai, Sirloin, Filet Mignon. I went middle of the road with the sirloin but was able to taste the filet mignon off my friend's plate. Conclusion: filet mignon cut up in cubes had a rich beefy flavor that comes from the fat in the meat that is seared. It's really good, super tender and juicy. The sirloin also cooked and cubed has a flatter taste but still really tender and delicious. If budget is not an issue, go with the filet mignon, your taste buds will be singing! Staff was friendly and polite. The cooks, depending who you get make their own jokes to entertain you while cooking. Our cook did this knife flipping thing with his chef's knife into it's holster several times like it was nothing. I could just envision myself trying that and losing fingers and toes in the process!!! Overall, it's just a touch pricey but I loved the experience! We were all very satisfied. It's good sized portions guaranteeing that nobody will leave hungry. The place filled up by 6pm where every table was occupied. I will go back again!
