Not open to public, small fence to hop during non school hours. Easily the best playground on island. Shame they don't "open" it to the public on the weekend read more

Enter the dreamland of playground wonderland! As I was searching on Yelp for Aikahi Elementary School for their Swap Meet event the first thing that popped up was their Playground...!?! So random...No...have you seen this land of happy dreams even as an adult. First thing you see is the giant Dragon with each scale encase a tile with art by children and those tiles are at entrance area as well. I wanted to take more pictures but it was filled with children "of course lol!" and didn't want to take their faces but the rock wall, Turtle hideaway, even a tree house looking play area I was just so impressed. I assume it's exclusively for the school students but open to all on this day did draw an impressive crowd understandably, and what a great environment to have the kids go outside and just have fun. So highly recommended the drive for any events they may have as this is an impressive park that will please all ages! Thank you! read more

Aikahi playground is super cute for the littles. They have a fun dragon that you can climb on with various treehouses, monkey bars, swings and all sorts of fun areas to climb on and through. It is gated and on school grounds but on weekdays after school and weekends, one of the gates is open for public play. read more

If you're looking for the Shangri-La of playgrounds, look no further than Aikahi Elementary. I was on the hunt for the best playground in the State for my two young boys (4.5 and 3 yrs old). Most park playgrounds are designed for ages 5 and up, with dangerous drop offs and advanced obstacle courses. It's not a deal breaker, but you def need to keep a watchful eye on the wee ones. My boss recommended Aikahi (he was a school teacher for the DOE so he knew the hidden gems on the island). The way he was hype-ing up Aikahi seemed too good to be true. "It's unlike anything you've ever seen. You just gotta go. It's worth the drive." Was he right? 100 percent. Aikahi playground is on school property so the gates can be an obstacle in itself. But that doesn't stop dozens of families from jumping the fence to reach their recreational destination. Street parking is available around the school and we've never had a problem finding a stall. The playground was built by 100+ Marines and funded by multiple organizations around the State, including HFD. This ain't no ordinary jungle gym. 95% of the playground is made from recycled materials and it truly looks like an agility course for kids: conveyor belt bridges, chain link and rope ramps, "the bow of a boat" with gliding floors, a turtle bunker, and rock climbing facades to name a few activities. My boys absolutely love it, and we make it a point to come here every few weeks with musubis and enjoy driving through the Pali tunnel to reach kiddie nirvana. Take your keiki, too, and enjoy the moment! The whole family will love it. read more

Closest to a 'Mainland' playground you will find on this island. Definitely worth the drive out from where we live. There's numerous play structures for kids of all ages, I'd say best for toddler age till 10-11 years old. I've never seen so many types of monkey bars, plus side was as a short parent I could actual reach those bars compared to the playgrounds on the Leeward side. read more

While having brunch with a friend at Boots & Kimo's we decided to spend some time afterward at a park nearby to let the kids burn off some energy. A simple search for "parks" into Yelp led me here. Unfamiliar with the Kailua area, I tapped the directions button on the map and it was easy peasy getting here within 10 minutes. This park is on the Aikahi Elementary School property and is enclosed by gate. We parked on the street and walked around through the parking lot. Not sure when it is acceptable to come on the property but I would assume probably not ok during school time. What lots of parks on Island are missing are swings and this one is no different, no swings unfortunately. But one things for sure, its not lacking space or activities! This park is huge! It's very much like a Tree house theme and is appropriate for ages between 5-12 as per posted signage. Although it's recommended for those ages, there are still little ones that are younger. My children are between the appropriate ages and play nicely, but even my kids noticed there are lots of older ones that play quite rough The activities here are unlike any other park I have seen on the island so far. There are 4 different slides, a little climbing wall, 5 different monkey bars, a bouncy "bridge", a swaying "ship", and lots of shaded seating surrounding. The wall enclosure closest to the school is made in the shape of a dragon! Part of the playground is painted to be a honu and another portion is like the front of a small ship. This was our first visit and while spending a little over an hour here we definitely enjoyed our time. My girlfriend and I were able to let the kids play freely while we sat in the shade to "spill some tea and throw some shade" lol, not really. The other visitors did the same. Some parks on Island can really be a hit or miss. Sometimes rude parents and kids, trash and bad smells everywhere. This park is clean, so that's awesome for everyone! Too bad there aren't more parks like this, but I know not everyone helps to keep the parks in good condition... read more

Be aware! This is part of an elementary school. Playground is closed for public If not attending school or school is not open.

Found this spot by searching kids playgrounds in Yelp - there aren't many good ones on island IMO. I was instantly excited when seeing the pictures other people had posted and strolled with my two young kids to check it out. It's attached to an elementary school and I believe you can utilize it when school isn't in session. There is a sign on the gate that says closed for the summer but there were still patrons on the playgrounds ..so we joined them. The playground is huge and has a little bit of everything - slides, bridges, climbing structures, etc. perfect place for the kids to burn some energy. There are also benches to sit. I agree with the other reviews here, and that is to help keep it clean. It wasn't bad at all when we went but I definitely want to help keep it clean so we can all enjoy this awesome park. read more

Why is this park in yelp? Is inside a school with a not trespassing sign , the only way to get in is by jumping the fence. There's not facilities either. But sadly here in the island there's a lack of nice playgrounds, and the playground in this school is amazing. read more

I don't know about you but when I was a kid I couldn't wait to play outside. I was lucky enough to live close to a playground. Where the neighborhood kids would gather. Where we let our imaginations run wild. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy technology. But I have 3 boys and the iPad can give me a few moments to do something quickly but it doesn't take away all that natural energy. That's why I have to make sure we go somewhere where they get it all out. They may say they want to stay in and watch t.v. or play video games. Yet I know that ball of energy is soon going to explode and it ain't going to be pretty. So I'm on a never ending quest to find different things on this island where they can get there energy out. Thank goodness I stumbled upon Aikahi Playground. Where: It's actually located on the property of Aikahi Elementary. I'm not sure if the public is allowed to go but every time we go it's on the weekend and there are a handful of other families there. What makes this playground one of my children's favorites? There are several different playgrounds that are found at most parks but the main playground is made out of wood. The playground has an ocean theme. There all sorts of animals tastefully decorated into the playground. Every time we visit this playground my kids always want to climb on top of the sea dragon. It's huge and long. You can see fishes, a shark, sea turtle, sting ray, and crabs. They also have a boat where you can rock back and forth in. There are several slides, monkey bars, a rock climbing area, several balance beams, and ropes to climb. There are droves of benches surrounding the park. Trees naturally shade most of the wooden playground. There are several tables with chairs located near the turtle if you want to eat there. There is also a good sized neighborhood strip mall with different stores and restaurants near by. It's a great playground that I'm sure your family will enjoy. read more

This playground are what dreams are made of! My husband first told me about Aikahi Playground and I could not for the life of me understand what would make it worth driving to the Windward side. Well, I'm a fool and my husband is a genius, because it's our daughter's favorite playground ever and she never tires of going there. She is seven years old with boundless amounts of energy and Aikahi Playground is her training ground to become either a parkour master or the next American Ninja Warrior. It has tons of bars to hang and swing on, lots of spots to practice those balancing skills and all the peekaboo places your heart desires. The playground is quite busy on the weekends, but that's also what makes it fun because kids playing with others kids is way better than kids playing by themselves. Don't get me wrong, I had many exciting times with my friends rock and stick growing up, but I could have benefitted from more lessons in how to win friends and influence people. Bring a snack, sit in the shade, and make sure you clean up your mess. It's a lovely place to make those childhood memories, so let's all play nice together. read more

This park is such a great park for kids of all ages. I must admit even I had fun here. It simply caters to all ages with the park being separated into sections for each age group. There's multiple slides and bridges. There's different obstacle courses and the theme for the park is a dragon theme. The playground is padded so if kids do Fall it's cushioned. Also there's shade so as not too get too burnt while playing and there are also benches for parents to sit and watch their kids play. I don't really know how to explain the location. It is a little hard too find and it is in kaneohe/kailua area. It's in the area of a school and a residential area. I would come more often but it is a far drive and not really located too close to places for the kids to snack on or drink at. read more

I am literally contemplating on moving to the Windward side for this park. It is so clean and well maintained, any parent who is a germaphobic like I am will love this park! Aside from being clean, this park is huge and has many variety of choices to play on. It helps with fine motor skills, crawlers can crawl on the very soft clean grass that's not pokey not to mention, there's many types of slides, monkey bars, a boat, it's a parent and child's dream! Win win on both ends? I say hell yes to that. We stayed for two hours and I really felt like that was 30 minutes coz I was having fun with my kids! At other parks I'm just done by the actual 30 minute mark. My kids are lucky if they even get an hour at the park lol. You should totally bring your kids here Some things to know- * This is on school grounds so please come during non school hours. * Street parking only * This is a beautiful park, please help keep it this way read more

I'm writing this review to keep a good thing, a good thing. Aikahi Playground is like no other playground you will find on the island of Oahu. Trust me, as a mommy of a little one, we've visited our share of playgrounds. Nothing. Compares. To. Aikahi Playground. Nothing. I urge all parents and families to respect the playground equipment and please, please, please keep the area clean. Respect the school it's on, Aikahi Elementary. I have been told families totally disrespect the school, they leave tons of litter & they use the bathroom along the walls of the school. There are no restrooms - since it's a school campus (bathrooms are for school hours only) - so please do not overstay your welcome. That said, the playground is massive, beautiful and what all playgrounds for the little ones should aspire to be. You know how all playground sets around the island are basically the same? Aikahi Playground is so unique and original - there's a local flave to it and also it's a very conscientious of what would be fun, challenging, and a great place for an output of crazy young energy. Since it's on school property, I can't say for sure that the public should even be on the playground. I do know only street parking is available. Just remember to do your share and leave the property better than you found it. I'm happy that we found this truly hidden gem and it almost pained me to write this review to share this amazing playground. Bring your little ones because they will have the time of their lives. Just please remember, Aikahi Playground requires ALL of us to do our part to keep it the gem that it is. Huge MAHALO to all the special individuals who pulled together to build this beautiful recreational masterpiece! read more

It is closed to the public. It is only for the school Aikahi Elementary. People trespass all the time but that does not make it ok.

This is NOT a public park. This is a public school playground. That being said - it's completely maintained by the PTA of the elementary school, NOT by the school (first hand knowledge). And it's sad to say - but outside visitors need to take care in how they treat this place or it could be easily removed by the DOE. Far too many times people litter the playground expecting the school to pick up after them. It's the parent volunteers or students themselves picking up the dirty diapers, wipes, used female hygenic items, cigarette butts, empty beer bottles, soda cans, food containers, and yes even cleaning off harsh grafitti from the equipment, not to mention repairing the equipment. People show up having tents, blow up inflatables for birthday parties on weekends and leave all the trash for the school to take care of. If the trash can is overflowing it ends up on the ground next to the trash can where it blows all over campus. I've seen it happen weekend after weekend. If you gonna bring stuff in, take it with you or have extra trash bags to put your trash in if you having a party. Students are not allowed to use the playground during recess when outsiders are present on the playground, The student body suffers as they only get 10-15 minutes of recess after lunch. The school has been very tolerant before, and new rules are in place. We need to respect what the school is asking during school hours. The school is tolerant after school hours so long as it is NOT during peak pick up student time. Since this is a DOE school - use of the facilities is NOT encouraged unless you are there as a visitor, attending a formal school function, or a community helper. Please keep this in mind when using the playground. There IS a public playground behind the school, behind the baseball field. There is no longer any access point to that area from the school. You must enter via Aikahi Loop or from the main park entrance off Kay Bay Drive. Hope this helps. All that info aside: This is an AWESOME playground to use! TONS of imagination areas to be on and utilize. read more

Welcome to the best playground on the island! This playground is one of a kind, literally. What I mean by this is it seems like all other playgrounds are made out of metal and not unique in any way. Well, Aikahi playground is top of the line. This is the playground that all other playgrounds want to be like. From what I understand this playground was built and designed by children and volunteers. When you enter the playground you will notice it is ocean themed. It is a place that your child can to balance, hang, and climb. There's a variety of monkey bars, bridges, ramps, stepping stones, slides, and ropes for children to have fun on! The walkway around the perimeter of the playground is good for children to ride tricycles or mommy's to push little babies. Oh, I can't forget to mention there is a ship that rocks and your child can steer! Come and enjoy the great shade to lay out a blanket. There is enough benches for everyone to have a seat. Our sons first response when they saw the park was "woooow cool" that pretty much explains how they felt lol But I have to agree with many of the reviews it is a very big park with many obstacle course for the children to do. We don't live in this area and we noticed that it gives the children the opportunity social with new friends. The playgrounds different areas give the kids enough space to move onto another area and/or share each activity with other kids instead of fighting or crying. Compared to other parks that we go to, this park is not only children friendly but parents as well. There isn't the typical rowdy group of unattended kids or individuals here, even with having homes so nearby. There are more parents here that get involved due to the size of the playground. The space of each obstacles to each other let's both parents and children enjoy each others time and fun without the consistency of running into someone. The most enjoyable thing about Aikahi park is being able to enjoy watching and playing with our sons and not feel like I'm working, monitoring the playground! Every parent here is interacting with their children and being responsible parents, that's super awesome! The only downfall is that it's not pet friendly. read more

Aikahi Elementary School Playground - Big park - Playgrounds Near Me - Kailua, Hawaii

Baby bear finally started crawling, so we needed a playground for her test her new skills out at. Aikahi Playground came highly recommended on Yelp, so we decided to take a trip out to Kailua to check it out! I was VERY worried about having to sneak in to the playground since it is on school property, but seeing the many other families that were there on a Saturday, instantly put my worries at ease. We were able to get parking right up the road and ducked under the gate to enter this AMAZING playground. The equipment is very unique and well maintained. It has obstacles for all ages! Baby bear enjoyed crawling through the wooden tunnels and I can't wait for her to start walking to enjoy everything else there. The playground area is surrounded with astroturf so parents don't have to worry about really nasty falls. Most importantly, this playground is SHADED. Most of the playgrounds I have seen around the island have no shade so it is impossible to use them because baby bear would get so hot and sunburnt. The shade allowed us to totally relax and really enjoy the facilities. read more

Please read! This really is an amazing playground; my favorite I've been to on the island. There are endless things to climb and swing from, many slides, and it suites many ages. The only issue is that this playground is NOT A PUBLIC PARK. It's Aikahi Elementary School property, and they actually prefer people don't come here, especially during school hours (understandably). This was clarified in a KITV interview in March 2014: http://khon2.com/2014/03/21/aikahi-elementary-clears-confusion-over-playground/. Sorry folks! I love this playground but I hate feeling like I'm disrespecting the school rules. Got kids? Got kids who love to go the playground? Then put Aikahi playground on places you MUST visit, because this is the BEST playground on the island, hands down! This is every child's dream, with forts and castles, slides of all shapes and sizes, bridges, hiding places, balance beams, rope and chain ladders, even a mini rock climbing wall! There is tons of shade, and it's very clean. Even I have fun when we visit this playground. Aikahi playground is located in front of Aikahi elementary, so visit when school is out, or on the weekends. There is tons of street parking. The one downside is that I have not found a public bathroom here (maybe there is one, but I was unsuccessful at locating it the last time we were here) so make sure your kids "go" before you make a trip to this playground. Other than that, this place is a blast and your kids will love it, I can guarantee it! Maybe we'll see YOU there! read more

From a small rock climb wall to balance beams, rope net climbing, slides and more. There is to places within the park where the kids can talk to each other from one side to the other. Also located here is a water fountain at 3 height levels. 2 tables for parents to sit and a few benches as well. Lots of shade. Playground kept fairly clean. There is minimal graffiti. This is the best playground we've found on the island. Since we've been here a month ago, my two year old had asked daily to go back. There is such a variety of equipment for all ages--they even have short monkey bars for toddlers! My son also loved all the slides and the fire pile to slide down on. Aikahi Elementary School Playground - Playgrounds Near Me - Kailua, Hawaii

This is a great playground for kids of pretty much any age, but should be limited to no one older than a sixth grader. The great thing is that there is a lot of different structure for kids to climb, a variety of slides, plenty of shade and plenty of places for parents to sit and watch their kids. The unfortunate part of this playground is that because it is part of the elementary school all the gates providing access are locked during non school hours. I am ok with locking the parking lot but locking access to the park it a bit much. As a pregnant mother with a two year old, it is difficult to climb through the space if the parking lot gates. Especially when I have to help her through the gate and am carrying my bag, a diaper bag, and a drink bag. I can only imagine how much harder it will become when #2 arrives. Also, you sometimes have to deal with older kids, even teens, doing those stupid "park core" activities. I've yelled at a few of them by they never listen until my hubby yells at them. Additionally, and not really a criticism of the park but of the patrons. I noticed that a lot of parents don't actually watch their kids but rather sit playing on their phones. I have actually had a little girl follow me to the far end of the park, completely obstructed view for her mother, and she tried to play with me and my daughter for 20 min before her mother came looking for her. Please parents, you may be comfortable letting your kids, especially the older ones, run around freely but do your job. There are a lot of hidden areas that someone can just grab your kid. And if your kid is doing something wrong that might affect my kid, don't give me attitude when I scold them. read more

I finally got a chance to bring the kids here and immediately discovered that I waited way to long to bring them. Some of the monkey bars were broken and the equipment just looks like it all needs to be replaced cause paint is coming off and it's all grimmey already. Leaves everywhere and could be nicer if was swept a little, even though I know it's outside, it would look better. The green cushioned padding for the ground needs to be replaced, kinda buss up already. And lastly, I thought the playground would've been bigger. But over all the kids had free fun for an hour. Need water fountains and a lua close by too. Oh well. Just my 2 cents and 2 stars. read more

This park is awesome. So many things for kids of all ages (up to maybe 10-12) to do. All the equipment is pretty safe and there really is no worry about your kids falling off the equipment. We went on a Sunday and all the fence gates were locked so the only way in was walking under the parking lot pole gates. Parking is along the street but there is enough space for quite a few cars.
