The highlight here is actually the mini islands behind me
Darwin P.

Kailua Beach was next on our Oahu getaway trip. Sharing the same characteristics to Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Beach: warm waters, family friendly vibes and a beautiful climate. Restrooms are available, and so are showers to wash off after the beach What makes Kailua Beach unique is the view you have. You can actually see a mini island you can get to! And the waves are perfect for surfers ‍

A friend recommended Kailua Beach to us so we headed there on one of our last days. They have a parking lot but we couldn't find a spot until driving around a second time. Your best bet is to just follow someone walking out to leave and wait until they get in the car to leave. This beach was much more relaxing than Waikiki and more family oriented. The winds and waves were more calm than North Shore/Haleiwa Beach. There were a lot of people on a Sunday at lunchtime, but it didn't feel too crowded at all. We had plenty of room to swim without running into anyone. I also liked that there was a lot of shade on the beach so we could find a great spot to sit without needing an umbrella. There are restrooms here and a lot of grassy areas if you want to just sit on the grass and see the ocean, without going down into the sand. It's less than a 30 minute drive from Honolulu so it's very accessible. This will definitely be a stop on our next trip again!

Kailua Beach with its fine sand and gentle waves

Kailua Beach is the perfect beach for a nice picnic or day to just lounge around enjoy the wave action and sand. The sand here is very fine and soft. Really nice. It's not real busy so you can feel pretty isolated during the weekdays. Weekends it's much more busy as this is more of a local beach eg those working. We absolutely love it here.

Just wanted to give some love to Kailua beach since it's a good spot to relax and get a nice swim in the blue water, white sand beaches of the north shore. This beach is typically less crowded than Lanikai beach, but is just as beautiful and probably more enjoyable without the crowds. There's ample parking and showers/bathrooms as well. Definitely recommend!

Free parking lot with restrooms and rinsing station. White sand is finer and softer than the Waikiki side. Wafer temperature is also warmer than the Waikiki side, don't know why. There are much less people here than the Waikiki side. It's a short drive from Waikiki to experience much more paradise.

Quaint, soft sand, kid friendly beach. Plenty to walk around and explore. Clean bathrooms, free parking, and just a nice drive from Waikiki.

The beach was clean and there was free parking, and a restroom. Family and pet friendly. The views are gorgeous. It's a sand beach, much nicer than waikiki! Parking was a challenge as it filled up fast.

Hidden gem! We came on a Tuesday afternoon after 12 and there was plenty of parking. Plenty of bathrooms and changing space. My older kids (8,9) loved the waves. Lots of shade this time of day right next to the trees. Clean, soft sand and turquoise blue water. We already want to come back.

Beach, sand castle

Sand is powder-like, location has bathrooms and showers. We swam with turtles. What more can you ask.

Very nice beach with bathrooms and decent parking (come early if you want a spot). The view is excellent - you can see some mountains afar and people kiteboarding / windsurfing.

Absolutely love this beach. Swim every day a couple hours at least. Water is ridiculously beautiful, love to bring the dog though it says no animals? Clearly it's ignored, yay. Mostly locals and visitors coming to enjoy paradise. It's far from touristy, you won't find hotels in Kailua, buzz's steak house across the beach in Kailua is about the only place with that view, they keep it quaint and charming, but it's all about that water and sand. Note, it can get very windy, check weather for the hours/days you plan to visit.

Lovely beach, not overcrowded in December, and there is parking. The sand is super soft, and the water is gorgeous. If you can't find parking for Lanikai, this is just down the street.

So crowded. It's terrible. Water smells like sun tan lotion. Got itchy in the water after a few minutes. Yuck.

As I was walking this trail, my brain is telling me this is a mini Aiea loop trail with great view of the Windward side of Oahu. Parking is a challenge. The location is inside, one way, Kokokahi Place neighborhood so there's only street parking. We were lucky to find spacious area to park. The view here is great considering we only hike up 20-30 minutes. Total trip length was 2 miles. That was little disappointing because I like to get most out of my hikes. I feel like I got ripped off on this hike with little sweat. As for intensity, you do have to climb up but lots of ropes to help you. Luckily it was a dry day so no mud. This trail is quite narrow so it may not be kid friendly. Also, if you're on the taller side, watch out for branches. This is not State trail so it seems like it's not kept up regularly.

This is a very short hike that loops around, so you shouldn't be running into anyone on the narrow pathway. Start right, like driving! There's nothing steep, treacherous, or difficult. The Friendship Garden is very well maintained. Maps and information are provided at the beginning. At the top, you'll find beautiful views Kaneohe Bay. There's also a pathway that leads to another hike that's clearly more difficult and not apart of the Friendship Garden. Warning signs posted! The only difficult thing might be finding this place because it's quite hidden, deep in a residential area. It's located on Kokokahi Pl, which you can reach from Kaneohe Bay Dr. Just drive all the way up, and it'll be to your left. You can only park along the side of the road. Make sure to leave enough space, and also be mindful of the signs! No parking from 6-11AM on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which is probably trash pick up days. Overall, a really nice, easy hike with well maintained pathways. It might be a journey to get there, but it's worth it. Bring friends and make new friends!

The location has a parking lot. Upon entry you are struck by the amount of activities all in one space that really is hours of play where you can see everything and keep track of your kids. The double trampoline is a hit. The colorful ball pit where the kids can dive through and slide into are points of interest. A large climbing maze like structure with suspended bridges and padded stairs. Market area for kids to pretend to shop for foods. Ice cream trolley that's kid sized. Tiny spinning carousel that continuously goes around and around. All these activities provide hours of entertainment and fun for the kids. It's a fun neighborhood hangout for the little ones to enjoy.

Another indoor playground for the keiki? YES!!!…read more It seems like over the last few years, business owners are realizing how sought after these indoor playgrounds are for working parents, stay at home parents, young kids, and old! Location is in Kailua, right off the main drag on Hamakua Street (look for the bright yellow building). The parking lot has about a half dozen stalls on the right hand side (beware you may be towed if you park on the left side). I asked the manager where to park as the signage wasn't very clear, so be warned. Pricing: Rates are per child: $15 for one hour, $20 two, $27 for three, and so on. Adults are $3 each. Grip socks are required for all (customers are allowed to bring their own). They also offer all day rates and monthly passes (M-F only). They also feature a stamp card for loyal customers: buy 10 sessions, get one free! There's a bunch of toys and entertainment for all ages: a carousel, obstacle course, slide, Lego stations, and play supermarket. A few unique stations are the rock climbing wall, concert/band area (with drums, piano, ukulele, and microphones), and a big screen TV that featured cartoons for the kids. Open seven days a week. The kids love the trampolines, lego sets, ball pit, and rock climbing wall. Restrooms available. Thanks Hi Keiki Playground for bringing the FUN to Kailua! We wish you all the joy and success!
