The first room we stayed in (we eventually changed rooms) didn't have its own restroom, so we needed to use the common bathroom, which was, itself, gross--people used the toilet and didn't flush; the lock on the stall didn't work. The showers were so gross that my partner insisted on buying sandals to use it. Moreover, there was no temperature regulation in the common shower, so only burning-hot water came out. The lighting in the hallway outside of our room didn't work. The door to our room had holes in it and the lock appeared to have been kicked in at one time (I'm not joking or exaggerating.) The entire lobby reeks of cigarettes. The hostel is situated in a *very* rowdy neighborhood (Reeperbahn), which is full of drug addicts, homeless folks, and prostitutes (my purpose here is not to judge them, but to give you a sense of what kind of environment you'd be in). The hostel is accessed through an alleyway surrounded by strip clubs, which had vomit in it when we left to go out one night. The place is quite noisy. All in all, it was a pretty sh*tty experience.

I love Reeperbahn and especially St Pauli, so the location is perfect and because it's a bit away from the street you can't hear that noise... But you do hear the noise of thr big groups coming back from partying all night long, stamping through the hallways and rooms upstairs and yelling... So I didn't have a lot of sleep. When I wanted to take a shower I had to go to the shared bathroom (which I shared with like 15 rooms...). There were 5 showers and none of them had hot water. It was freezing in this bathroom and with just cold water I was an icecube when I came out. There was only one toilet for both women and men for all these rooms. When I said something about this the girl at the desk told me that it always takes a long time to get warm water... Well didn't dare to try it again. I decided that this was my last time in AO Reeperbahn!

On my first night stay I experienced issues with the WiFi (even paying for premium) the signal connectivity was marked as "poor" by my Roku streaming stick, other tools like "Wifi Analyzer" for Android marked a lot of interference and the room I was in was in between two different wifi APs... so the next morning I asked to be moved to a different room that was closer to the wireless, my wireless internet got better in the new room BUT my new room has no Air conditioning at all (its basically a fan right now). Called in reception to ask if they could send someone to check the AC and they told me they were aware of the problem and they were hoping to get this fixed by tomorrow. I was disappointed to know that I was moved to a room that did not have a working air conditioner and that I was not asked if I wanted to move to a room that did not have problems, so that's my second night out of my 6 night stay here and compared to my other 4 star or 5 star hotels the experience has honestly been subpar. I rated them 2 stars for the room being spacious and modern design of the hotel but really, broken air conditioner on a 4 star hotel is not really acceptable.

This has to be our favorite hotel brand and our favorite hotel in Germany. This hotel has the most spacious rooms! Public areas, rooms, and amenities are all modern, clean, and appealing. We wished we stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is located about 1.6 km west of Hamburg's Rathaus. The breakfast buffet was superb! The location and the price for this hotel is very attractive and is an excellent choice for those who can walk a distance to and from attractions. There are nearby U-bahns if walking is an issue. I highly recommend this hotel brand/location to anyone staying in Hamburg! To the management of NH Hotels, great job! Come expand in the USA!

The room I got had a highly-efficient studio feel, with a HUGE double-sized bathtub/shower. The lighting here is exactly in tune with the rest of the hotel, and accent all parts of the room perfectly. The food & drinks here are truly fantastic (and for that you're going to pay a bit of a premium). The daytime bartender knows how to make an absolutely amazing Whiskey Sour, and he even has a special version made with Gentleman Jack, maple syrup, and orange marmalade! Naturally, since this place is called the east Hotel, there is a sublime selection of sushi and other Japanese culinary delights that you have to try! This is now my go-to hotel whenever I'm in Hamburg!

The rooms are large and with modern art decor. Comfortable and uniquely shaped beds, large shower areas with jet tub (openly located in the room), desk area, bar area (with full min bar) and lot's of "artsy" shaped furniture. The hotel is located near the waterfront and Reeperbhan. About $28 euro from the Hamburg airport. I really enjoy the main level bar area. Great atmosphere, dark, cool modern long bar down one side, large high wood tables with bar stools, and even some limited outdoor seating. Service is always great and they have a limited food menu with about 10 selections prepared in the main restaurant. I love the Maisels Weisse beer on tap, so refreshing. I always enjoy the sushi when I stay here, either at the bar or in the main restaurant. The menu changes up every year and the chef is always creating unique combinations. The fish choices are different vs. North American sushi restaurants - more eel, crab and crawfish. Also more non-fish options (i.e. Duck). That said, they still have some salmon or tuna options at select times. Service is consistently good throughout the hotel including check in/out, room service / cleaning, bars and restaurant. Never had a negative experience. PS - You can wear your room keys around your neck - this ensures you get back to the hotel after long crazy nights. BK

I think aspects…read moreof the hotel felt more on par with a 3 star rating for me, but the service was quite good so I'm bumping my rating up. The hotel is close to public transit, which is a double-edged sword - it's easy to get around, but the transit is above ground so it's kind of noisy. As a light sleeper I was worried, but I actually had no issues (and appreciated the ear plugs in the room). While the trains are close, it does require a big climb up multiple sets of stairs. If you have a lot of luggage it's wise to take a cab there. So, the not-so-good...rooms were as small as my husband and I could have managed, and the pillows were very flat (we requested two extra but honestly I could have used even more beyond that). We couldn't locate any temperature control, so it was quite warm at night. The good, though...it was comfortable, the view from our room was amazing, and the breakfast buffet was incredible. Getting laundry done was reasonable and easy, and our room was tidied each day. The front desk seemed happy to accommodate requests I made. Overall, it felt like the hotel catered toward a slightly older clientele than us (we are in our early 30s), so I'd probably seek out something a bit more design-focused or more modern next time. Still, it's a great choice for location and service!
