This is a hotel built on modern! From the elegantly darkened lobby, restaurant, and lounge areas, to the open-air atriums which also connect the buildings, this place has stylish down to a T! The room I got had a highly-efficient studio feel, with a HUGE double-sized bathtub/shower. The lighting here is exactly in tune with the rest of the hotel, and accent all parts of the room perfectly. The food & drinks here are truly fantastic (and for that you're going to pay a bit of a premium). The daytime bartender knows how to make an absolutely amazing Whiskey Sour, and he even has a special version made with Gentleman Jack, maple syrup, and orange marmalade! Naturally, since this place is called the east Hotel, there is a sublime selection of sushi and other Japanese culinary delights that you have to try! Easily my favourite European hotel - I've been staying here for over four years. Great location, nice rooms and excellent in-house bar / restaurant. The rooms are large and with modern art decor. Comfortable and uniquely shaped beds, large shower areas with jet tub (openly located in the room), desk area, bar area (with full min bar) and lot's of "artsy" shaped furniture. The hotel is located near the waterfront and Reeperbhan. About $28 euro from the Hamburg airport. I really enjoy the main level bar area. Great atmosphere, dark, cool modern long bar down one side, large high wood tables with bar stools, and even some limited outdoor seating. Service is always great and they have a limited food menu with about 10 selections prepared in the main restaurant. I love the Maisels Weisse beer on tap, so refreshing. I always enjoy the sushi when I stay here, either at the bar or in the main restaurant. The menu changes up every year and the chef is always creating unique combinations. The fish choices are different vs. North American sushi restaurants - more eel, crab and crawfish. Also more non-fish options (i.e. Duck). That said, they still have some salmon or tuna options at select times. Service is consistently good throughout the hotel including check in/out, room service / cleaning, bars and restaurant. Never had a negative experience. PS - You can wear your room keys around your neck - this ensures you get back to the hotel after long crazy nights. BK read more

This bar has the coolest, amazing interior of the whole Reeperbahn area. The fact that its not exactly on the Reeperbahn makes sure it keeps its exclusive, classy appearance. The drinks are expensive, my basic cocktail costed 12euros! However, it was divine. The design, crowd, bartenders, funky house music and atmosphere all fit together. Although, you have to feel like spending money and like to interact with the rich, arrogant, fashionable dressed crowd. I would compare this concept with the Buddah bar in Paris, besides the hotel and the buddhas. I wouldnt go here too often because of the prices, but its definitely a bar you should have seen once! read more

I'm just reviewing the cocktail bar here. When I first entered, I thought this must be biggest Hotel bar I've ever been to. However, the big lowered floor central to this room (better: hall, considering its size) is actually the restaurant, for which you need to be seated. The interior of this place is otherworld-ish. Dim lights and a fantastic and unique decoration set this place apart from any other place I've been to in Hamburg. Despite its size, everything's very cozy and seems to be done just about right. Oh right, my drink, a Tanqueray Smash, was superb. Just don't expect to pay less than 10 eur here per drink. read more

I spent one night at the hotel, having found (surprisingly) a cheaper rate than my normal Hamburg resting place. The hotel can be easily found just a short walk from the St Pauli UBahn on a street surrounded by other hotels. The impact is immediate, low lighting, stylish decor; you walk through the funky bar to the reception. Clearly a design lead boutiquey kind of place. Very friendly service in the modern, cool sort of style. I would say how attractive all the staff are - but that might be taken as sexist! My room was on the ground floor through the atrium, but very quiet, backing onto a small courtyard. The room again can only be described as funky. Well designed creating the maximum use of space by having an open bathroom area. Very cool! The bed was stylish and very comfortable, though I do find that all hotels seem too fond of soft pillows that serve almost no purpose. I ate dinner in the restaurant at the hotel, which is sunk down below the bar area. As expected, again very cool with an east/ west fusion menu and a great long open sushi bar where you can also order the standard menu dishes. I had pink tuna with coconut / wasabi sauce and jasmin rice. Nicely done and well presented. The bar and restaurant is clearly a big destination for locals/ those not staying at the hotel as well. I am sure I will use both regardless of whether I stay here the next time. The only thing that will be really important to me in the future that I didnt try is the business service and wifi / internet connections. Not clear in the rooms etc how this worked, or how good it is. So that is a question for next time. read more

I met a friend here recently before a night out then we ended up there after midnight. Nice place, attractive crowd, great range of drinks served by friendly expert bar staff.
