The boy and I booked this place for our last leg of our European adventure.
The hotel isn't located in the heart of the San Marco area, in fact it is located in the Canareggio area of Venice, which isn't a bad thing, since everything is more or less a 20-30 minute walk and you can really get a chance to soak up the "romance" of the Venice atmosphere. Plus there aren't as many of the day tripping and tour group tourists in this area - so it would make you feel a little less touristy.
We had booked our stay through hotels.com, which made the stay price tag a bit easier for my liking. Otherwise, Venice hotels at least a "4" star or higher do get really pricey.
The standard hotel room isn't too bad. It is a nicely appointed and the standard bed is an ok size, meaning a queen sized bed are two twins pushed together. The washroom was big size with a good sized bathtub with a decent shower head. The only downside to the bathroom was that there was no fan in the washroom, thus no ventilation in the bathroom. The heated towel rack was a great touch as well.
The room walls are a bit too thin for my liking, as we had some obnoxious people next door, who had left their tv on at all hours of the day, and once we had complained to Front desk about the noise; our neighbors next door did turn TV off, but there was constant banging and thumping through out night, which made it very difficult to sleep in general. On one hand, when we had complained about the noise, we should have asked straight out for another room; however the hotel staff desk also did not offer us the option. Since it was our last night, we figured it wasn't worth making a huge issue over it. But it did ruin our stay a little.
Wifi is complimentary, but you do need to ask for a code - make sure you ask for the one that offers 24hrs, which means you have 24 hrs total of Internet and it auto logs you off after a certain amount of time; so in some ways it was a bit annoying, but it did get very spotty in the hotel room, which it dropping quite a bit.
The breakfast here is decent, I would say go for the Blood Orange juice and pick up any of their croissants (5 options to choose from, plain, honey, chocolate, apricot, and savory) with coffee (one of those mega machines that offer you anything on the basic coffee options - although tea options are a bit more limiter)
Bonus perks
If you get turndown service - they provide you with a weather report for the next day, so you know whether or not you need to prepare for Aqua Alta. They, also, provide umbrellas on loan if you forget to pack one.
In the morning - they have a free boat ride out to the glassblowing studios in Murano - yes it is a one way trip and it is a sales pitch - but it is a quick way to get out there, rather than walking to the Orto Vaporetto stop and taking the 41/42 out to Murano.
If you arrive early, drop your stuff off - they store your luggage in a locked room complete with bellboy to guard it and they will take it up to your room, once you have fully checked in.
The front desk staff are really nice and do try to accommodate you and provide excellent directions and recommendations, whether you are looking for food to eat or directions to a place.
Also, keep the windows closed - there are Mosquitos in Venice, even in November, read more
