We contracted with Island Wide Commercial Roofing on August 22,2024 to repair a commercial flat roof in Holbrook NY. Remitted 50% deposit same day in the amount of $24,000.00 which was promptly cashed the same day. We were told the work would commence within a week. We requested proof of insurance for both General Liability and Workers Compensation as required by our Insurance Carrier which IslandWide Commercial Roofing stated we would have within the week. They stated they carry proper insurance but after some investigation including a search on NYS Workers Compensation website, we were unable to confirm. Several weeks went by, numerous phone calls and emails. After exhausting attempts, we were notified by Jason Samino-President of Islandwide Roofing that they would be unable to supply proof of insurance for various stated reasons and therefore would return our deposit. They stated that the deposit had been placed in an escrow account and would be returned immediately. Once again after numerous phone calls and emails we were told in an email from Cindy that they would not be able to return the funds until October and gave us dates when certified checks would be sent. We failed to understand the delay as they stated the funds were placed in an escrow account. They once again failed to meet the promise to return the full deposit and again gave us additional dates that it would be returned with numerous reasons for delays, unsubstantiated.
