This is by far my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Idaho! I LOVE shrimp ceviche, so I decided to order it. I was a bit skeptical about the oranges, but they were delicious when soaked in the rest of the ceviche juices. I never order anything else, because the ceviche is THAT GOOD. I always order it with a basket of chips and a side of tapatio and ketchup. Also, the owner is awesome! He's very friendly and does his best to remember every customer who walks in. I'm really torn with Agave. We've been going here for years now but the experience is always bittersweet. Based on about 30 visits, I think the food has always been good but the service, depending on the specific server, can be either great or terrible. A specific server that we commonly have simply disappears during our meal for extended periods of time on EVERY VISIT and that is terribly frustrating. We LOVE the margaritas, and order them regularly, but sometimes the server drops our drinks, which we finish, and then we're waiting for 10-20 minutes with dry throats waiting to order another drink. The Michelada's, which we also frequently order, are also incredible. We used to visit 1-3 times per month on our 'date night' but because the service is so randomly good/terrible, we don't go as much. I like the food, even though it doesn't seem to be truly "authentic" Mexican food in my opinion. I've had a few 'off' dishes but overall, I recommend the food. My favorites include the Queso Fundido!!!, Enchiladas Verde are amazing, Burrito al Pastor and grilled burrito, Alambre and Ceviche. I was not crazy about the Mole or Carnitas, but only had those dishes once because they fell very short the first time--but you may enjoy them. The Micheladas and Margaritas are absolutely the best in town so we will return but we will also always wonder why our server is MIA during our meal. read more

The day before Mother's day we were driving home from Craters of the Moon national monument and headed back home to Wyoming, when we needed some dinner. We had planned to go to Chuck-a-rama until we saw the massive line peeking out of their front doors. Oh yeah... Mother's day weekend. Ugh. So our back up choices were Panda Express or this Mexican restaurant called Agave grill. I wasn't going to Panda for my mother's day dinner so Agave grill it was. They were full. Not a empty table in the restaurant when we arrived. We waited a few minutes for the staff to greet us, but the hostess saw us and acknowledged us, but she was too busy to get to the door at that time. When she did come over she was friendly and told us it would be a few minutes they needed time to clear off some tables. After about five minutes we were seated. Chips with salsa and bean dip came out promptly as did our drinks. The waitress was obviously busy, but friendly and quick to greet us and take our order. We waited a bit for our food, finished out chips, which were immediately replenished and finished, we were super hungry. We waited more, then the hostess asked us if we needed more chips and we said no. Then one of their other employees asked us if we wanted more chips and we said no we're just waiting for our food. He asked us what we ordered and then went back to the kitchen to make sure that it was almost done. Then the food came. Hot, delicious, huge portions of food. I had the smothered Chili Colorado burrito. Soooo flavorful, just the perfect amount of heat to it and it was huge! Both of our kids had chicken quesadillas with rice and beans, and they loved them. Hubby had chicken with peppers and onions, and he ate it with tortillas and he loved his as well. The server apologized for the wait, but we totally understood it was so busy and the wait wasn't unreasonable for how busy it was. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and we will most definitely be back next time we're in Ammon. read more

Having been a Mexican food lover all my life, it has been my experience that the best food you can find tends to be in little hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Under rated- yet the most authentic you can find. That can be a double edged sword though, because they can also have the worst food you've ever had! No worries here! There seems to be an inordinate amount of Mexican food eateries in Idaho Falls. I have eaten at a large portion of them. Some not-so-bad. Others not-so-good. Lunch today was the Agave Salad. It was very good. I had it with steak. Chicken is another option. The steak was seasoned so well. Avocados and tomatoes were on the plate surrounding the corn and beans with shredded lettuce. A wonderful dressing was provided on the side. The food was fantastic!! The atmosphere was nice but the chairs were uncomfortable they were hard and hurt my back. I ordered Pollo Fundido, my mom was ecstatic to find out they serve Sopes, my step dad ordered Chili Relleno, brother ordered the Carnitas Burrito, and my sister in law ordered street tacos. Everyone's food was delicious and as ordered. They have Pepsi products for pop. I subtracted one star for the service. The waitress seemed to speak very little English so it made splitting the check correctly a little difficult. She was on top of everything except for the things we asked for such as extra napkins (had to ask 3 times before we got them). The food is okay. However, customer service sucks! I've been working in customer service jobs for ever, and I know that they need a little bit of training when it comes to customer service. In my last visit to this place, the server walked us over to the table that he wanted us to sit. I asked if we could sit in a booth instead, and he replied that booths were for bigger groups. After I told him that we were going to go to Jalisco's instead, he finally decided to let us sit where we wanted to sit. In my opinion, all the servers at this place think that they are funny when in reality they are being rude and unprofessional. For now on, I will be going to Jaliscos and Tortilleria Zimapan instead! The food was alright. It was kind of bland with very little spice. The house salsa was also extremely mild. I had a combo plate with a mole enchilada and a chile relleno. The service, however, was really not alright. Apart from the free chips/salsa/bean dip that did arrive rather promptly, my service for the rest of the evening was almost comical. When I placed my order, I ordered guacamole as an app. It never came, even though I patiently waited and saved chips. The waiter was busy waiting other tables, and appeared to be the only server on staff, but he didn't have any more than five tables. When my food came, he placed it on my table, mumbled something really fast about the plate being hot, then rushed away. After that, I was pretty much ignored for the rest of the night. I felt like I was wearing an invisibility cloak. When I was almost finished with my meal, he did check up me, but I swear it was only because he was en route to a bigger table. I asked for some hot sauce, even though I only had a few bites left; he disappeared again, and I never got it. I am convinced that he has the memory of a goldfish. I finished my meal, placed my plate at the end of the table, and waited for my receipt. He eventually came back to give me my receipt, and off he went. I left cash and left. read more

What a great birthday lunch with my mom. This is a cute little Mexican restaurant that we chose due to the stellar reviews on Yelp and we weren't disappointed. The guacamole was great- the house margarita was very good. We also had a Mangonada - a frozen spicy mango drink. Excellent!! The food was amazing- we didn't have a bad dish. The service was spot on-Luis was friendly and attentive. The best part was as we were leaving, we stopped to admire the beautiful plants in the front lobby. My mom is an avid gardener and Jose came out to talk to us about them. My mom asked for a cutting of one of his plants and by the time we left she had a potted plant and several cuttings and the promise of another plant later in the week. My mom was on cloud nine and loved the special treatment. We couldn't have asked for a better birthday. We'll definitely come back!! read more
