First, the service! Wow! As we were visiting with the lady at the register, it was pretty clear we had no idea what to order from their huge menu. She had the lady serving food stop by each time she brought a tray by so that we could see some options. Every bit of it looked incredible. We finally decided on a kid quesadilla, which hung off both sides of my son's plate and came buried in fries; an enchilada plate that came with seasoned potatoes; and a shrimp fajita burrito, which was bigger around and longer than my forearm. We were looking for a new place to eat so we went to Yelp and looked for something new. We found El Rinconcito It was so good we were sad that we hadn't found before. The atmosphere was awesome. It appeared to be family tan. I got a burrito it was good. They don't have waiters but the ladies came and checked on us several times which was very nice. I'm a yelper so when I saw the ratings, I knew I had to try this place as we drove from Idaho to Utah. We were sadly disappointed which doesn't happen often. I had the two beef burrito and got it smothered in red sauce. The sauce was excellent but the beef was so dry and hard, it was almost like beef jerky. It came with a side of rice and beans which the rice was ok, but the beans were so watery and runny. My hubby got the chicken tamales. He said it had very minimal chicken to the point he almost questioned if it had any in it. He said the texture of the tamales was good and the red sauce was also good. read more

The beans were lukewarm and so was the rice, but the tacos were so good it did not matter. The onions and cilantro were just the right amount to add flavor without overpowering the taco. Delicious! Well worth pulling off the freeway to eat here. Coming from Southern California where we have abundant good authentic Mexican restaurants, this was a pleasant surprise. The Service was warm and professional. On the recommendation of the hostess, we tried the huge Tapatia with carne Asada - large homemade thick corn tortilla folded over like a quesadilla and filled cheese, salsa fresca, cheese, lettuce and carne Asada. It was crazy good. Shredded beef fried tacos and cheese quesadilla were also excellent. We left with 4 different homemade salsas so there's one for every preference. Idaho Falls has plenty of Mexican restaurants. But El Rinconcito stands out on a couple of fronts. First, they make their own tortillas in house and their salsas are pungent, spicy and delicious! Second, friendly folks behind the ordering counter are happy to explain any menu items you may not be familiar with. Once they get your mouth watering, the real task is deciding what to eat! They have an extensive menu board with specialties you won't find just anywhere. Third, although they're in a less-than-dazzling concrete storefront, they've worked hard on the inside decor to make the restaurant comfortable with a casual vibe. I went with the cheese enchilada and pork tamale and my sister went with the carnitas torta on our visit. The veggies and sauce on my plate were fresh and tasty and the enchilada was slightly crisp on the edges. The not so great? My sisters torta bun was a bit burnt and my tamale was tougher than typical tamale texture. Get one of the house drinks when you go. WOWW!!! Traveling across country with my husband from Southern California and accidentally stumbled upon this spot. Saw a picture and immediately knew I need to stop and cure my craving. This place is sooooo gooooood! My husband ordered red enchilada plate which he loved and I ordered a tapatia and a sope. Huge mistake. The sope is huge and the tapatia is ginormous! Hence the price. This is likely the only legitimate Mexican restaurant in all of Idaho. I know that sounds dramatic, but it is true! When we arrived, almost all of the patrons were of Latin descent. This isn't a racist comment--that's a sign of authentic cuisine (do the members of said culture frequent a restaurant of said culture's cuisine?). Everything was excellent. Did I already say Morenita's is the best restaurant in Idaho Falls? I might have to reconsider that. El Rinconcito has amazing, authentic Mexican food. The Adobada is the best I've ever had. The enchiladas, both red and verde, are outstanding. Everything is loaded with flavor. The Mulitas are great and the Barria (goat stew) is top notch. As long as you stay away from too much fried dough and the too wet nachos you will NOT be disappointed. The restaurant is always busy for lunch--a testament to how delicious the food is--so get there before noon unless you want to wait in line. First visit was a positive experience. Overall a 4.5 star experience. Offering simple cafeteria style decor in an industrial building location, but the place was clean, cozy and staff was very friendly and patient explaining all the different meats and options to my parents. I had the two fish taco combination platter, which the tacos were okay (a kind of fish sticks type of Baja style taco) but the rice and beans were outstanding. (Best refried beans I've had anywhere and I ate every single bite.) My husband had the al pastor Chimichanga Loka and he really enjoyed it. My parents split a carne asada street taco and each had a Machaca Beef burrito. They said it was good but next time they will go with al pastor or carne asada as the Machaca Beef was too salty. My son has a kids quesadilla and it was a plate overlapping, gooey bit of deliciousness with French fries. All of our entrees had very tasty tortillas and as mentioned the rice and beans were great. Disappointed that they did not have chips/salsa and the bottles of salsa offered at the table were meh... so only reason I did not give 5 stars. The portions were ginormous and the prices are fair. Wow, After eating here for the second time in about two weeks, It's confirmed. This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant not only in Idaho Falls but anywhere.(I'm from Chicago so that's saying a lot.) I have eaten at other restaurants in town where they use a ridiculous amount of rice as filler in their burritos, chimichangas, etc. The burritos here are loaded with anything but filler. Ceviche now at one for 4.99 so not as fantastic at the price True the tapatios too, and they were excellent. Very authentic food at a great value. This place is a hidden gem. As authentic as it gets, and I have had the best Mexican cuisine that California has to offer, and this little hole in the wall shop in Idaho ranks right up there. A fair warning though, lunch time gets BUSY (but that's because they are so dang good). So if you go for lunch, you might get lucky and find a short line, but I recommend calling in ahead of time if you are ordering take out. Dine in is great. At the recommendation of the very nice server, my husband got a carne asada something on a long fried, thick sopa-like base. Also delicious! We got a half order of mega nachos with chicken so we could taste their rice and beans. Tons of food for two people, but we were starving. Everything was so good, and we loved all the salsas. We are everything except half of the tapatia came home with us for tomorrow :) I thought inside was fun, yes it's a cement block strip mall, but it is clean, bright, and has cool murals inside. El Rinconcito is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Idaho Falls! Large portions with fresh ingredients. They keep things very clean which is different from many of their competitors. The chimichanga is so delicious with it's crispy fried shell covered in guacamole, sour cream, and red sauces to represent the Mexican flag. They make several great hot sauces in house that range from mild to burn you twice. read more
