I have eaten Mexican food all over the country and this is by far the worst food I have ever eaten. All our plates smelled like moldy cheese, the meat was very suspect and looked boiled on the fajita plate. I ordered dip and it looked like microwaved milk in a bowl. The pico I paid for was store bought salsa in a small bowl, I was told that was the best they had. I paid $73 for food I wouldn't feed someone else's dog. I have been eating here for over 20 years and while they aren't the fanciest nor the best over all, they have a few items that really are outstanding. My favorites are the shredded beef tacos and cheese enchiladas. They deep fry the corn tortillas lightly before making the tacos which makes a fantastic texture and flavor. Their cheese enchiladas use cheddar for the filling and the sauce is very tasty. The rice and beans are also good and I like that they serve their slightly spicy salsa in a squeeze bottle so there is no double dipping. The restaurant lighting is dark but not a bad option for me as I kinda liked it. Quiet and peaceful so that was a plus. Waitress was very nice but didn't really know the bar menu very well when ask a couple questions. We ordered fajitas which came out good in there own way. They were different than I had ever had before let's say that! Would I go back? Yes. For one more try and try something different. Not bad but not my favorite so far. I rate Plum Loco five stars. First, I have nothing to report. In my opinion, Plum Loco ties Sadie's in New Mexico for best Mexican food in the US but is much cheaper. The restaurant is unusually clean. Service is efficient. That means it is fast and waiters/waitresses get orders correctly. I think it is rare to find any non-expensive restaurant during this economy that is adequately staffed. Growing up in Idaho Falls this place was the best mexican restaurant around for so many years. They always had the best chips and salsa but the mucho nachos is what I always loved ordering. I live quite far away now, but I've been coming here since it was Mi Casa. In fact, I remember my whole 6th grade class coming here one day for lunch! I have a hard time rating this place because as a vegetarian, it is very difficult to eat here. There's very few items on the menu for vegetarians and the beans are made with lard, which cuts down those options even further. I usually have to get the cheese enchilada. It's made with quite a lot of cheese and a good enchilada sauce, by id really like it even more if it had some real Mexican queso crumbled on top. Same thing with the cheese enchilada. This is a Mexican restaurant, but instead of using the white queso, the restaurant uses cheddar cheese. I got jalapeño poppers today, and they are definitely not fresh by any means. I think they probably start out frozen?? So, for the food... I'd probably give a 1 as a vegetarian. However, the chips and salsa are THE BEST CHIPS AND SALSA I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I'm addicted. This is the real reason I come to this restaurant. In fact, the first day I was here, my mom came to the restaurant to get me their chips and salsa to eat at home! Also, you can buy a seasoning pack to take home, so you can make the salsa yourself. I was told they an even ship it to you!!! As far as these go, I'd give the restaurant a 5! She gets buttered flour tortilla and a soft shell taco, I would recommend having the nachos. Refried beans smeared over chips, cheese and tomatoes. We put the peppers on the side or take off. "OUTSTANDING" I can not say enough about how great of a place this is. We wanted someplace that could accommodate 100 people to celebrate our mothers 80th birthday. From the very begining our expectations were exceeded! They easily set us up with a private area downstairs, the whole staff got in on the act to make the surprise party a success. They all played a huge part! We were able to order off the menu so everyone got what they wanted. I was so impressed how fast they got the meals out. They had the room all decorated for us. If I could leave zero stars I would. We came in around 12:30 and there was no one at the host stand to sit us. Eventually one of the owners sat us at a dirty table. It took a while for him to get us menus and water. The server took forever to get to us to take our order- which is fine. I get that they were probably experiencing a lunch rush but we couldn't tell because we were sat in a separate part of the restaurant that only had two tables. I really wouldn't have minded the slow service because I've been in that same position before and know how hard it is. The food finally arrived and it was -to put it nicely- just gross. I ordered a small chicken chimichanga. It was completely smothered with sour cream, the chicken on the inside was dry and tasted frozen and overall just didn't taste right. When the server came back to give us our check nearly 30 minutes later, I told her what I thought of it and asked if I could get it taken off the bill. She said we couldn't because it had already been touched which is absolutely ridiculous. How could I know if the food is bad without taking a bite?? Overall, this was a really terrible experience and I can't recommend going to another place more. I must add that the owners are both white and most likely don't have much knowledge when it comes to Mexican cuisine, which is probably why it was disgusting. read more

Plum Loco, in my opinion, has the best Mexican food in town. I have been a frequent customer for many years and have hardly any complaints. I remember one time when I was little, I brought one of my toys, Splinter from the TMNT series. When we left I noticed my toy was missing. When we got home my dad called the restaurant. They found him and I got him back only without his Kimono. The service is decent. Waiters and waitresses are friendly but not overly outgoing, which is okay with me. I think it has to do with the laid back atmosphere which is a plus to any restaurant. The only complaint I would have to say is that sometimes they rush the food right out. I like to have my meal brought to me in a timely matter and not too soon or too late. The food is exceptional! I usually order the Spiced Beef Burro. And believe me it is spicy! The chips and the salsa can't be beat either. The owner of Plum Loco is a very nice guy named Curt. He has run the business for many years. At one point he gave ownership of the business to another person. A few years later Curt decided to buy it back. In Curt's words he claimed, "I was Plum Loco to give up this restaurant."
