She was direct yet soft, quick to reply over email on any issues I was having in between appointments, and extremely knowledgeable. She keeps up to date on studies which I greatly appreciate as medical professional myself. Simply put, Renee is an expert in this field. I recommend her to anyone wanting to nurse pain-free. She also had great tips for bottle feeding. My baby is 2 months now and exclusively breastmilk, both with nursing and bottle. I owe it all to Renee.

Still, during the first 15-20 minutes of my appointment she kept grilling me about my insurance information, wasting my time. After that she wasted some more time dissing the newborn care classes I attended at Swedish. I had already decided against getting long term care by now, this kind of negative attitude is not conducive for sure and I totally agree with the other reviews about the dismissive and negative personality traits. The funny thing is after a few weeks she reached out complaining that she was not able to make an insurance claim. However, I checked both my primary and secondary insurance claims, and the claim related to her was processed by both the primary and secondary insurance.

I had already seen several lactation consultants who were all surprised I reported so much pain because they all believed the latch looked good and her tongue tie was only "mild." Both my doula and pediatrician referred me to Catherine so I decided to see one more lactation consultant and I am so grateful I did. Firstly, having a health care practitioner make a home visit feels like an impossible luxury in the first month post partum. It is such a production to go anywhere with a newborn, so that in itself was a huge help. Secondly, it was invaluable having the lactation consultant see the exact location in which I was attempting to breastfeed. She was able to help me be successful with the items I had on hand. I had thought I might need a different chair or some kind of special breastfeeding pillow - nope. Catherine showed me how to support myself and the baby with the pillows and blankets I already had on hand. She helped me to latch my baby in a way that immediately and substantially reduced my pain. She also showed me how to use saran wrap for nipple care. Prior to that I had been spending a lot of money on Medela gel pads. We saw her for a total of three visits in which she coached me through a feeding and pumping schedule to maximize milk production and then slowly weaned me off the pumping to match my needs and comfort. Add to all of this her compassion and humor during such a stressful time. I can't recommend her enough!

We were matched with Jen based on our request for a size friendly doula with a sense of humor, and…read moreboy did she deliver! We received prepartum, postpartum, and birth/delivery support from Jen. She met with us before my due date and educated us on what to expect from her, as well as different techniques she uses to provide support and pain management during labor. After being admitted to the hospital I called Jen and asked that she come and be with us for the labor. She came with her "bag of tricks" and knowledge of how to support both my husband and I during the ten hours of labor. She lead us through silly walks down the hall, held my hand while I threw up in the hallway, and urged me to moan it out during contractions. She spoke with my excited (and anxious) mother-in-law and ensured that my husband got breaks and ate. Towards the end of labor the baby's heart rate monitor stopped picking up her heartbeat, which resulted in lots of stress and anxiety from hospital staff, and an increase in the number of people in the room. Jen kept my husband and I calm and focused on the task at hand -- birthing our beautiful daughter. Instead of getting caught up in the frantic energy of the room I was able to ignore much of what was happening around me because of Jen's calming words and affirmations. I know we could have birthed our daughter without Jen there, but it would have been a much different experience, one that would have been more stressful, bewildering, as well as emotionally and physically draining. Postpartum care has been instrumental in gaining confidence as a new parent. She visited days after our daughter's birth, encouraging us as she checked on breastfeeding and our emotional well-being. She has been super at responding to my random questions via text (Is this amount of spit-up normal? What is this discharge coming out of her? Am I diapering her correctly?) No question has been too small or weird for her to answer. Jen has been a wonderful support as we navigate the transition from a family of two to a family of three.

I was so pleased with the care I received. When it came time for delivery she was super responsive and knew exactly when to come and be with my husband and I at my home. She and her team made a chaotic transfer seem like a walk in the park. Once we got to the hospital, she didn't leave my side until hours after my birth. My husband and I were so thankful for her support and guidance. Thanks to her, Felicia, and Sadie, I was able to labor at home basically right up until I delivered my son. I'm so thankful for her and will definitely use her services for future pregnancies! I seriously cannot recommend her highly enough.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR BABY HERE! You owe it to your child to take him/her to a normal…read moreENT/Otolaryngologist and not a clinic that only does tongue-tie surgeries. I would strongly advice against taking your baby here. We brought our baby here on our pediatrician's recommendation and after a diagnosis MaryAnn O'Hara strongly recommended getting a frenotomy to release our child's tongue tie. She spoke of the "release" our baby would experience after the operation multiple times, waving her arms. She also recommended clipping our child's cheeks. We decided to get a second opinion from the director of Otolaryngology at Seattle Children's and another well respected ENT in the area and they both said a tongue operation was absolutely not needed and further that doing it would make not make breastfeeding any easier for our child. It is places like Seattle Breastfeeding Medicine that have given alarming 10x rise to tongue tie procedures over the past 15 years. There is a massive difference between an ENT/Otolaryngologist who specializes in the field and a place like Seattle Breastfeeding that is going to be financially motivated to clip the tongue. Consider that during the pandemic, MaryAnn O'Hara's website stated: "we are suspending scheduling new patients, except one group that needs urgent, in-clinic treatment"..."Young infants with clear oral ties (tongue ties or lip ties) that"..."Parents know they want to have treated (clipped)". Clipping tongues that don't need to be clipped for medical reasons is likely this clinic's money-maker and if you take your child there who doesn't need a frenotomy, based on our experience, this clinic will recommend a tongue tie operation anyway. I would also recommend checking out a recent NY Times article titled "Is Tongue-Tie Surgery Necessary for Breastfeeding Success?". A few quotes from the article: - "Tongue-tie diagnoses and surgeries are on the rise across the United States. A 2017 study found that the number of babies who had frenotomies as inpatients increased from 1,279 surgeries in 1997 to more than 12,000 surgeries in 2012." - "The huge majority of these procedures are being done on an outpatient basis in clinics where we don't even know what the actual rate of complications are," Dr. Hartnick said. "The outcomes are not being tracked." - The surgeries can cost hundreds of dollars -- or thousands if general anesthesia is required -- and aren't always covered by insurance.

I knew right away something was not right and spent two weeks with a hungry baby and in extreme pain before Dr O'Hara was recommended. We had gone to several consulting appointments at Children's and Evergreen and tried a release with the pediatrician with no change. Our son couldn't get his tongue past his gums and was not gaining weight. Dr O'Hara is what finally turned things around for him. Since then my fourth child had a tie noticed by his SLP and had a frenotomy when he was two and a half. Dr O'Hara has supported me time and time again with consultations. I have personally had a tongue tie release and it helped my anxiety dramatically. My youngest was born tied (remarkably similar to his older brother) and since the release he received as a newborn, Dr O'Hara has recommended alternative treatment to thin and stretch his frenulum. Whether a tie needs to be addressed for nursing, speech or anxiety, Dr O'Hara has taken incredible care of me and my children. A tie is not always perfectly clear and it's important to have someone you trust to diagnose and recommend treatment.

This past summer, she supported us after the birth of our second son, and her presence immediately put me at ease. With her nurturing energy and vast experience with newborns, I trusted her with my baby completely--probably even more than I trusted my own husband (sorry, babe!). From the moment she arrived, our little one felt completely safe in her care. What sets Aylie apart is her ability to anticipate needs without ever being asked--whether it's loading dirty dishes into the dishwasher or folding the mountain of laundry lingering in the corner. She is completely nonjudgmental during such a vulnerable time (did I mention the piles of laundry and unmade beds?), and has an intuitive way of making everything feel more manageable and smooth. If you're lucky enough to have Aylie as your postpartum Doula, I promise she will make your experience 10 times better. P.S. It's a major bonus that Aylie is DONA certified and covered by Carrot Fertility for postpartum Doula support!

Aylie is a consummate professional and a person whose peaceful energy and quiet confidence I can only hope to match someday. Aylie did a home visit before our little one arrived, which allowed us to touch base on her methods and everyone's expectations. She reiterated that she was here to help- whether that was with the baby or with chores or whatever else we needed that fell within the contract. Once our baby was born, she coordinated times throughout the week that she could come by. We tended to ask her to come in for a few hours in the morning. Among the things she helped us with were chores (I don't think we had a concept of how quickly laundry would pile up for us!) and caring for the baby while we got in some self-care. Often, that would cover us while we showered or got in a much-needed nap. More important than anything else, more than the very useful cleaning and tidying, more than the holding and soothing of our baby while we took care of other things, was the peace of mind that Aylie provided. As first-time parents, we had so many questions. Some of these we would text her and some we would write down to ask her about. In this way, she helped us develop confidence and skills. She coached us through babywearing with a wrap and through our baby's first bath. She also helped me troubleshoot breastfeeding. She has so much expertise and it was by far the thing I found most valuable about this experience. Aylie is a wonderful human being and an exemplary postpartum doula. I highly recommend her services to anybody- new or experienced parents!
