I did appreciate that they were gluten free and vegan but they were not tasty. - I noted the main menu had a large selection and may be more appealing than the baked goods. First time coming to Ebony and first time trying Ethiopian food!…read more I was so happy with this place; came with a friend on a Friday night and there was no wait and open seating. We sat outside and there was a view of the concert that night so it was a great vibe and we had a great time. We did the family style for two ($39) with four entrees, salad, and the injera. We chose the following: Spicy misir wot - lentil based and lots of different spices Shiro wot - chickpeas based Enguday tibs - sautéed mushrooms; super flavorful and the most different from the other dishes we got (more saute style; less pasty or saucy) Denech alicha wot - potatoes and carrots Injera - came with this spongey crepe like roll that you can eat with all the sauces/dips/entrees You order first and then sit wherever you want. We did wait a little bit because they accidentally lost our order due to a big party before us, but the staff was so nice and apologetic even though we didn't mind at all. He even gave us free Ethiopian tea for us while we waited and offered banana bread, which was so sweet. But the food came out shortly after that and it was well worth the wait! So good! The vibes were great and I will definitely come back again.

In fact, it's one of those restaurants that randomly pops into my head because the food was that memorable. My friend and I were walking around the food hall trying to decide where to eat and honestly had no idea what to order. The owner came out, started chatting with us, shared a bit about his background and his food, and immediately made us feel welcome. When we told him we were open to trying anything, he offered to pick some of his favorite dishes for us. Everything he chose was incredible. Not only was the food delicious, but the experience itself is what stuck with me all these years later. You can tell he genuinely cares about his customers and takes pride in what he does. His kindness, passion, and hospitality made us feel like more than just customers. Four years later, I still crave the food and remember how warmly we were treated. That's rare. This place will always hold a special place in my heart, and I truly hope more people get the chance to experience it. If you're thinking about trying it, do yourself a favor and go. You'll leave with a full stomach and probably a smile on your face too.

I really wanted to enjoy this experience, but it ended up not being quite for me. The egusi soup…read morehad a flavor profile I wasn't expecting, and the chicken was a bit tough. The dish also had a strong smell and a slightly bitter aftertaste. I had anticipated a more balanced, savory flavor, but it leaned more toward spice and bitterness for my taste. The fufu reminded me of an unseasoned potato in flavor. That said, the jollof rice with oxtail was a highlight. The meat was tender, the plantains were nicely sweet, and overall the dish felt more flavorful and satisfying. I definitely enjoyed that option much more. Considering the portion sizes and the ghost kitchen setup, the $30 price point felt a bit high to me. The food is not made to order, it is reheated before packaging in standard plastic containers, which influenced my overall impression. On a positive note, the woman serving was very kind and spoke highly of the food. I can see how this cuisine might be an acquired taste for some. For first-timers, I'd recommend starting with the jollof rice and meat dishes and exploring from there.

SA food is a mix of European, African, and Indian flavors, representing its mix of populations. Peri peri was just ok, but samosas knocked it out of the park. Indian-approved! LA needs more restaurants/bars like this to showcase the lesser-known cultures and nationalities that call LA home!

I made this review only for the fact that she was very helpful. Ive been here plenty of times and have not had service this well at a restaurant in a while, so her serving expertise really stood out. She was fast, accurate and very attentive. After dinner my husband I stepped over to the bar to grab a drink before heading out in hopes we'd be tended on by Crystal, but were told that she is only serving as of now. Hopefully she can start tending to the bar, she fits in so well. We want her to be our server everytime from now on. By the way this experience made me create my first yelp account just to leave this review. :)

It smelled Devine in there. I only ordered dolmas and garlic fries. The dolmas were not my cup of tea but those French fries are the BEST I've ever had. Crispy, crunchy and a small amount of a yellow sauce on top. That sauce is amazing. I would have licked the plate but alas, that would be rude plus there must have been 5 servings on my plate. I looked at everyone's plate and noticed no one was going to go hungry. They fed you! Service is outstanding. Our server is super friendly. At one point, the chef came out and talked to our table. That was thoughtful. The birthday girl received a decadent dessert and she enjoyed every bite. We all had a fun evening and that's what the night was supposed to be.
