We grabbed food at the cafeteria and it wasn't bad at all. Definitely recommend, especially if you have kids and need something fun to do.

I first visited this place when I was dating my husband as he was trying to "smitten" me with fun places to visit back when I lived in Dayton, Ohio. We found this place by accident but loved the history behind it. Man's love for midevil history creates an interesting castle. Coming back to it this day, I like how they updated some things with the castle to keep up with past history. Definitely worth a visit for those of you who would care to visit historical places is Loveland, Ohio.

The National Park Service has done a fabulous job of keeping to the structure of the home and still managing to tell the story of a great man. At a time when the nation and the military was still divided along racial lines, Charles Young graduated from the US Military Academy (the third African-American to do so). He was the first black US National Park superintendent and the first black man to achieve the rank of colonel in the US Army. And in fact was the highest-ranking black officer in the Army until his death in 1922. In 1894, he was assigned to Wilberforce College here, one of the Historically Black Colleges, to lead the new military sciences department. When the Spanish-American War broke out, he was promoted to major and commanded the 9th Ohio Infantry Regiment. He went on to serve as the superintendent of Sequoia and General Grant national parks. The museum goes into much depth for Young's 1912 assignment as military attaché to Liberia, the first African-American to hold that post. However when the United States was to enter World War I, he was removed from service due to a "medical issue." In 1919, Young was reassigned as military attaché to Liberia. This building was the home of Brigadier General Charles Young, whose story is fascinating. He was one of the first African American graduates of West Point and had a storied military career, which intersected very closely with the history of the National Park Service itself, as it turns out the army used to be responsible for maintenance of the national parks in their early years. This is how Young became the first African American national park superintendent - out at Sequoia. All of this information and more were introduced to visitors here. There is a good introduction film, "A Triumph of Tragedy: The Life of Charles Young," shown in an upstairs room. The lower floor has a couple of rooms full of displays on both Charles Young's life and the Buffalo Soldiers, of whom Young served as their commander. There is a small gift shop in a back room, as well. The rangers are very friendly and helpful. They were offering a program during our visit, and the hosting ranger was really great with the kids who were participating. Parking is available in a lot to the side of the house. Hopefully, they'll continue to grow this site!

The Westcott House had fallen into disrepair over the years, and was restored in 2005 by the local non profit Westcott House Foundation. The Foundation now owns the property and preserves it as a museum, which is open to the public for tours. Tour tickets can be purchased online. Our tour guide was fantastic. She had so much knowledge about the house, the architectural style and the Westcott family. The tour was scheduled for 90 minutes, but I think she could have shared info with us all day! The museum gift shop had some beautiful items. Parking is available on the street in front of the museum.

What a fantastic time we had taking a tour of James Galloway's log cabin, as well as the restored Victorian mansion with period decor, the Titanic exhibit, railroad display, and step back in time to the 1800's scenes, all at the Greene County Historical Society! Still, she did some of the science things, and we went to the indoor zoo- very cool, very cute, very clean. They had a few scheduled special activities during the day but we missed them. There were a lot of staff around helping and keeping an eye on things, which is always good. Multiple discounts, so check for those. Prices are reasonable even without them. Parking was packed on a busy day, but we found a spot. It's in a big park so no other crowded places nearby. A great draw for the area.

This is the Mushroom House in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati. The amount of detail is really breathtaking: circular steel steps, deck rails of wood shingles, stained glass windows, tiled ceilings... of course, I had to snap some pics. How often do we come to Cin City. The original owner/builder by the name of Terry Brown has passed away in 2008. We understand that it's an interactive experience for all so we didn't mind waiting. But it did slow down a bit of our excitement to solve a puzzle.
