If I could leave zero stars I would this is the worse braiding experience I ever had especially when u go to the Africans u expect neat quality work especially for $200; I showed the young girl a picture that I wanted ofcourse they said they could do it and my hair looked nothin like the picture; l got boho hair they put a ton of hair in my braids to try to cover the raggedy parts they did it looked like somebody 5 year old try to braid my hair no product or nothin so I contacted the owner DeDe and she said she would redo my hair the next day ; the next day came she made some excuse sayin she was sick she couldn't do it. So she said she could do it the following day; mind you I already paid my $200 for a horrible hairstyle that they did; so I come back the following day I had to repurchase my boho hair so I got boho knotless ; when I got to the shop Dede wasn't even there. the 1st girl that started on my hair was nice she try to do it right then DeDe comes to do the back of my head and start combing my hair rough and moving my head rough and still not using product I asked her was she using product she said no then turn around and says yes but I felt no product on my hair she was very rude like she had attitude because she had to redo my hair that they had messed up; now after this redo I went home looked in the mirror and one of my braids was not done in the back after all I went through u still can't do the job; I wouldnt recommend nobody coming here they do your hair mess and it's no worth your money or time please go somewhere else because this is not good quality service the worst experience ever !!!! Oh yeah I asked for a refund they dnt do refunds but u still go get ur hair redone and it's still a mess bottom line is they can't do hair ; period !!!! read more

I contacted Dede a day prior inquiring the service I wanted. Which was knee length knotless. While communicating I asked how much the service would be . She stated $180. Today I attended my appointment just for her to tell me it's going to be $250 because of the length. The issue isn't the price, the issue is we had already agreed on a set price prior to my arrival. So I only brought $200 in cash ($20 tip). It's really the principle. I am not the first person she has done this too. read more

I saw them right before I had my baby. I wanted tight braids before going into the hospital to get induced. I was literally having contractions while getting braided and they were all so nice and helpful. I started going into labor and they helped me into my car. I almost left without paying and they didn't even ask for payment. I realized and quickly rushed back and gave them $60. They were all so sweet and nice and my braids lasted for days! Considering I have thin hair I didn't have expectations for them to last forever but they did the job right. read more

So the first time I got my hair done, Deedee did an amazing job. This is coming from someone who changes had hair a lot. I kept the micros in for well over a month. The second time I for them (ordered human hair), she wasn't able to do it so some other did it and it was horrible. The hair was curly but the straight ends of the bulk braiding hair stuck out that it looked horrible. At least braid it to the end of the straight hair. 3rd time I went Deedee did it and my hair was bomb! Some time goes by and I called to get Deedee to do it again. She said come on in. I sat for a little which I'm like ok cool. She starts working on the top of my head and the braids look bomb but then stops and another braider does the back. It was countless stopping and I ended up there for almost 6 hours. I don't have that much hair bc I cut it off so the micros don't go but so long. I brung my own braid gel and comb bc my scalp is sensitive to things. I'm a licensed cosmetologist so I like things sanitized so I notice a lot of braiding shops don't clean their combs even on the blow dryers. My scalp is sensitive to alcohol products so I brung my own products. After it was done I looked up and she sprayed pump it up on ny scalp which dries it out and causes breakage. The next day I notice that my natural hair is sticking out the back. The micros weren't braided down in the back past my hair so now when I take my braids out I have to comb out the knots of the braids and hope it's not tangled or to where I have to cut my hair out. If you go the best I know of is still Deedee but I think this may be my last time going. read more

African Queen Braiding is a slave din, toxic, dangerous, unethical, and crazy. If you want these attributes, then I dare you to utilize their services. I have not had braids since I was a kid. During this pandemic, I decided to get my hair braided now that we are summoned back to work. On Yelps they are rated high. Lies I suspect. First, their style of braiding is wired. I have a bob yet they cut the hair and then keep adding additional hair. Second, the owner has a crazy process in place that is simply unfair. When a hair dresser is doing your hair, if someone comes in "after" you with an easy need, they will stop doing your hair and do theirs. Third, the owner continuously lies. She kept telling my husband five minutes, etc. she told me the braids will not be knotted, they were. Last, because I am tired I will end this, but it was worst. They burned my face, subjected me to the virus by not upholding distancing requirements, rotated hairdressers for no reason, etc. Go there if you dare. read more

I made an appointment here the other day and the lady I spoke with confirmed for the appointment to be done on Saturday as requested at 12pm. I showed up her at 11:38am, on time thinking since my daughter does have a set appointment they would take her. When we showed up the ladies told me I could wait until 1:30 and call and see if they were free because their braided never showed up. Then she said I should go check another shop and then come back. It's Saturday there is a reason why people schedule for appointments. I don't have time to sit in a shop for 2 extra hours when I had already scheduled an appointment. If your braider was late, then I should've received a phone call in regards to that situation so I could find another solution. Luckily I did at another salon and was my daughter was put in the chair right away. Never again. read more

I am beyond upset. I made an appointment with Dee to have my hair braided the next day. I even called the day of and expressed that I was coming an hour away with an estimated arrival time. Once I arrived, it took another hour before a braider would come to start on me. I was told that two braiders would help. People without an appointment were able to get in and finish before me. If you don't mind sitting, Wait Ng while they talk on n the phone, taking countious breaks, and waiting all day, by all means come here. Anyone who knows me knows I am EXTREMELY picky about my personal "grooming" spots. Respect my time. I stopped going to my last braid stylist because of her complete disregard for my time. But I discovered two back ups near home, Lydia's braiding and African Queens braiding. Both are consistent and fast.... or so I believed. Pros: Mati and Bee alone are AMAZING. They get me in a out quickly and looking like a million bucks! I went to the shop twice was finished in 4-5 hours and was quite pleased! Let Downs: 1. I called on Wednesday, during open hours, to schedule an appointment for my adult daughter. But no one answered. My daughter ended up going to Lydia's. We later learned that Dee Dee was "probably sleep" when we were calling. 2. I made a 5:30 appointment. When I arrived my stylist, Dee Dee, was on her way to get hair. When she returned, she worked on my head for about thirty minutes, then stopped to do a new customers locs. She claimed it would take ten minutes and that she was fast. I wouldn't be there all night. 45 minutes later she returns only to text and make phone calls for another 15 minutes before resuming my hair. She works for about 45 minutes then tells me someone else is going to do the back while she did another customers front. She walks away. No one comes to my chair for another 15 minutes. Then Bee comes and I start to get excited that I may finally get my hair done... NOT!! She literally did two braids then stopped to do ANOTHER new customer while I just sat there watching for another hour. Long story short... EVERY PERSON THAT ARRIVED BEFORE AND AFTER ME LEFT THAT SHOP AHEAD OF ME. Remember the promise that I wouldn't be there all night. THAT WAS NOT TRUE! I departed at midnight. It will be quite a long time before I put myself through this again. Lydia's May come with a sermon, but they come correct. read more

I visited this shop twice, the first times got Senegalese which were gorgeous and took about 5 hours. There were about 3 people working on my hair and it was done fairly quick. I was happy with the results even though I usually don't like my twists braided at the top they were fine. The second time I went was a horrible experience. I have nature hair and wanted goddess braids for a week or two. They charged $10 per braid and the braids were very messy. She then told me after splashing tons of jail on at the end I shouldn't get goddess braids with natural hair. Why wit until the end to make suggestion. I don't think I will be making a trip back to this salon ever agin. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would, Friday morning I called to schedule my niece for a braid appt we were offered a noon appt the following day Saturday. I inquired box braids and was quoted $165 over the phone and told it would take anywhere from 3-4 hours mind you she's a high school student and works she needed to report to her job by 4:30. She arrives Saturday morning at 11:30 (EARLY) for her scheduled appt my sister walks in to touchbase on cost and to let them know what she wanted done (not micro knotless braids) my sister reaches out on FT to my niece around 3:45 to see just half of the back of my nieces hair done (totally unexceptable) 4:00 passes 5:00 passes 6:00 passes and she still was'nt done literally. Once she's finally done my sister walks in to my niece having (messy micro knotless braids mid back) and quoted a price of $180 I call at this point because I made the appt was quoted a price for what we wanted and was referred, my niece stated when I called the OWNER said I had a serious problem and they wished I was there so they could do something" all the owner did during our conversation was apologize offer a $10 discount of the $180 mind you and say ok a thousand times my niece is tall but she's a minor so when your adult parent comes in to tell the stylist what she wants you turn around and do what YOU WANT and expect full compensation not too mention my niece missed worked got wrote up and was there for literally 7 HOURS and the braids still looked bad. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone it's very unprofessional and they have no knowledge of how a professional business should be ran! I can not believe the experience I had here, unprofessionalism at it's finest. I came here for the 1st time because they were the only shop still open late on a Sunday and was very happy they could take me. When I arrived I waited for awhile while I'm guessing Dee and another young girl both had clients but the other girls Client must have been a friend. When the girl finished she began doing my hair and I noticed immediately she started looking at her phone and doing whatever on it, this happened more than several times even showing her friend who was in the chair close to me stuff... it's not hygienic to keep touching your phone and someone else's hair back and fourth because no one knows where your phone has been and if you're doing someone's hair you shouldn't be scrolling through your phone at all. It got ridiculous and I can't believe the owner said nothing! They all just spoke to each other in their language, which is fine! But I thought I was in someone's living room intruding on their social time not PAYING to have a service done at a salon. When my hair was done, (I was getting a lace wig sewed on with my chair away from the mirror the whole time) the girl took some gel or whatever smeared it all over the front of my hair, forehead and sides not even looking or turning to face me and said "is it good?" She didn't even swing me around to the mirror to look! I looked and was amazed at the bad job, the lace was sticking up in the front, globs of gel on clumps of hair, she didn't even use a brush or comb to try to keep it down. I asked to use the bathroom to further examine and had to ask for some shampoo to takesome of the gel off the hair because it looked silly and I wasn't planning on going straight home. So it's a big no for me. Here I am writing this review almost in the same boat I came in because I had to cut the wig out because it looked ridiculous and way too loose, but maybe I'll try to make the best out of these cornrows I still have -_- read more

I got my hair done on the 29th because my sister was too sick to do it for me. They did an amazing job. I got box braids and have been braiding my hair since I was 9 years old and I am 25 now. Since my first review I have gone back many times to get microbraids. Each time they have done a beautiful job. Touchup at 6 weeks and then I'll go another 4 weeks and the style still looks fresh. I think Dee Dee is the best, but all of the ladies I have seen are good. If they're not too busy, they'll put 2 braiders on to get you finished. I usually bring my own braiding hair because I have a favorite type I like to use, but they sell good quality hair at fair prices. I do recommend the braiding oil they sell. It's inexpensive, but great for the scalp and lasts a long time. They do professional styling and finishing of your style in the shop. You don't have to go home and finish it at home in your bathroom mirror. read more

Today I had an appointment with Dee Dee which I scheduled very late yesterday afternoon. I had a simple style, cornrows with bun! She did an AMAZING JOB!!! Not only did she start on me 10 minutes earlier than my appt time, she was finished in about an hour and a half!!! This was the best braiding experience I have had since moving to this area from Atlanta. I don't feel like my face was just lifted either! LOL (the cornrows are not super tight around my edges!) I gave them 3 chances to get it right they didn't after 4-5 braids I nicely let them know this is not what I'm paying 200 for. The braids weren't even attached to my head. I am just so embarrassed for Dee Dee. The shop has changed drastically and every time I try to get my hair braided it's worse than before. I have been a customer for almost 9 years. But over the last two years she has rotated through a number of great braiders. Now it is just her and two or so young girls with terrible braiding patterns. If you have ever been to someone who has braided your hair in the past and most of your hair is cut because it wasn't caught in the braid that's what the two other female braiders are doing. I no longer will support this shop. For what you pay for braids you should at least have people who know what they are doing. I strongly encourage people to go to a person that braids hair out of their house before going here...in other words...go at your own risk!!! read more

This is a wonderful place to get your hair done. The women are very professional and thoughtful there was no pulling and tugging at my hair and I understood every word coming from the television during my visit. My braids are worth every dollar spent. I have been getting my hair done since 1997 and I have never spent under $180 (so remember ladies you only get what you pay for). Vera did my senegalese twist July 4th 2013. I loved it, not 1 braid fell out and I got so many compliments. Last year I chose to go someplace else... worst mistake ever because they only took out all of my edges. Just over a week ago I returned to the shop and just like my experience almost 2 years ago my braids look great this time Vera was out so the shop's owner Dee Dee did my hair. Once again I am happy and more than pleased with my braids that are literally laying on my behind. I like them long. I've been going to African Queen Braiding for a couple of years, and everytime that I went I've received great braids from the owner Dee-Dee. My hair was always neat and lasted for a long time. My last encounter was not so good, I made the appointment with Dee Dee but her nieces did my hair. I paid 195 for my hair to be done and when I got out of the chair it looked like my 10 year old niece did it. Honestly, my hair looked like I had it for at least a month. So I called DD and she said that she would fix it for me, so I had to make arrangements to go back to the salon to get it done. I went to this salon April 2013. The girl that did my hair took her time and did a good job. I got cornrows with a bun. I initially wanted the feedin cornrows (they told me the technique) but it cost more money. I set up my appointment with DeeDee. She did not braid my hair but did pin my bun in the back. Overall, my experience was ok and would return if I do not find another braid shop closer to my home. read more
