Alex worked on three issues for us:
1. A rotting exterior patio door
2. Door thresholds for multiple doors
3. Interior shelves around our house
For our patio door, he spent quite a bit of time trimming it, replacing a wood slab, and repainting the door. Price was reasonable. When replacing it however, it was never aligned correctly. I was told to buy new weather strips to help it close, but that did not actually fix the issue of it being misaligned. I can appreciate modifying a door and getting it to fit in the existing frame is hard, but if it couldn't be aligned, the recommendation should have been to replace the door from the very beginning, which is exactly what we had another handyman come and do.
For door thresholds, he replaced a few initially and noted that they would be fine. Few months later because they were too tight, they all started fraying. I asked him to redo with other thresholds I bought, and again, he replaced them but did not trim the door to get it to fit properly. Another handyman came and fixed this mistake.
Finally, for interior shelves, price seemed reasonable at first. I was called again when parts were being bought as the pricing had changed, some parts were more expensive than others. I said no problem. I came home to shelves that were well installed, but the ends were not sanded prior to installing, so it made for a rough look. Alex promised he would come back and sand the ends, when I messaged him to do so, he never replied back.
Also, I noted that despite being called about increasing the price of this job because parts were more expensive than anticipated, I was surprised to find rusty, old screws had been used for the shelf install along with some new ones. If I'm going to be paying extra for parts, I expect new screws at the very least.
He was quick and responsive during initial phone calls, but when I pointed out issues with work done it seemed harder to get in touch with him, and ultimately he never replied to fix the work he promised he would. read more
