Avoid this place. Worst dental experience I've ever had. From the very beginning, the dentist was openly anti-denture the moment I mentioned that was the route I wanted to take. Despite me clearly stating that I'm on Apple Health and came in specifically for extractions and dentures, he repeatedly tried to upsell me on root canals and other procedures that were not realistic for my situation. For context, a previous dentist in South Carolina told me years ago that my teeth were not salvageable and that I should prepare for full extractions and dentures. My teeth are severely decayed, and even this dentist admitted that fillings would likely fall out if attempted. At this appointment, they took X-rays, did a cleaning, and tested my teeth for pain. Then I was left sitting in the chair for 20-30 minutes while he "looked at the X-rays again." When he returned, he offered no plan, no discussion of extractions, and no next steps. Instead, he told me to "talk to my family" and see what I could come up with. I was very clear about why I booked this appointment, and I left with no answers, no treatment plan, and feeling completely dismissed. To make matters worse, they requested feedback afterward and then argued back and forth with me when I explained why the experience was negative. If you are seeking dentures, extractions, or care that respects your financial reality and medical coverage, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I went to this dentist and honestly, it wasn't a good experience. From the start, he kept complaining about my teeth -- saying they don't look good, criticizing the crowns, the fillings, basically everything. It felt like I came with one problem, but he tried to find problems in everything, as if nothing was right. Of course, the solution he offered was to "fix" it all, but only for more money. I understand that for him I'm a new patient and maybe that means good business, but honestly, he didn't build any trust with me. If I could choose zero stars I would! After months of trying to find a dentist that accepts Humana Gold + HMO, I found Dr. David Chen at Affordable Family Dentistry in Bothell, Wa on the Humana website. After filling out the extensive new patient induction forms, I scheduled an appointment for two months out. I arrived at the appointed time today (09/06/2023) texted the office number and waited. At 10 minutes past the agreed upon time, I went to the front door and called the office land line and got continuous "user busy" reply. So I called another number I found and got a friendly receptionist who tried in vain to find my appointment by my name, DOB or phone number. I asked for a new appointment and was told since they didn't have the aforementioned induction forms I would need to fill those out. She then asked for my insurance info. I replied Medicare and Humana Gold + HMO, to which she said, "we don't accept HMO patients at the Bothell office; let me see what I have at our Kirkland, Wa. location." long pause... "I'm sorry but we don't accept HMO patients at that location either." Needless to say I won't be going back, and cannot recommend this practice. Sigh... read more

Five stars because they did a good job and they're the only dentist in the area that takes medicaid. I found them to be a lot more intense than my last dentist regarding the state of my oral health, but to be honest, I needed that I order to get serious about using real floss and not just mailing it in with a water pick. Went in to get 2 wisdom teeth extracted. I was very nervous at first but the Doctor made me feel comfortable and safe. The only painful part was the numbing part but everything after that was smooth sailing. Avoid this place at all costs! The Affordable part of the name is a joke, this place is like a used car lot. They get people in and then try to scam them out of large sums of money. Both my partner and I went for an initial visit and both had terrible experiences. She was told she needed urgent dental work to the tube of $14,000 dollars and when she asked if they could do a simple extraction they all of a sudden had no appointment times available when if she was to pay the $14,000 they could get her in the next day. They don't care about patients only money. The information the dentist gave me was also factually incorrect as confirmed by another dentist. Some background on my dental history: I hadn't been to the dentist in about 10 years. When I stopped going, it was because a dentist I had gone to gave me way less numbing than I needed and I could feel almost everything he was doing and when I had told him to stop and was crying and screaming he continued to try and hold me down and work on my teeth. I was younger and completely traumatized from this experience. I ended up not being able to chew on the left side of my mouth for two years without sharp awful pain. Not sure if a nerve was hit or filling was done improperly. My experience with Dr. Hank: Getting ahold of this place as well as scheduling my first appointment was slightly more irritating than expected. I understand they're busy but we also ended up playing phone tag and it was kind of a hassle getting my appointment and I spoke to multiple different people and got kinda irritated. Eventually I got my appointment booked. When I first came in, there was not a front desk person, not sure if that's because it was right when they opened or because they're a smaller dentist. Dr. Hank checked me in and gave me paperwork to fill out, the usual. He did a few cleanings on some children and apologized for the wait, but with my fear of the dentist, that was more than okay with me! Lol I was still working up the confidence to even go back there and sit in the chair ! Lol. Once I got back, I explained to Dr.Hank my past experiences and how nervous I was and he said we can just start with some basic X-rays and see what kind of work I needed. Turns out I needed about 10 fillings, mainly in between my teeth, due to not flossing. He said it would be best, and cheaper, to do it all in the same day and that it wouldn't take very long. I worked up the balls to stay and get them all done. He made sure I was comfortable the entire time and that if I had any pain he would stop at any time. He made my whole experience so easy and I actually really didn't mind it. He even got out all the tartar from behind my front teeth and made them look all pretty!!! My three kids and I had a very positive experience here. I walked in two days ago to establish us as patients and got an appointment for the next day. I expected the typical dentist experience which requires multiple visits for everything that needed done (one initial checkup, a visit for fillings, and separate visit for cleaning) but was pleasantly surprised when the dentist did EVERYTHING during our first visit. As a busy mom, this saved me a lot of time and hassle. The dentist, Hank was awesome. He was good with my kids, made them feel comfortable, and was very thorough in explaining everything to me. 3 years later, the tooth Dr. Chang wanted me to pay $1800 on, still is feeling fine. This is the same tooth that I was told (pressured by Chang), it was a matter of time before it would shatter. I suffered from a broken tooth when i first went in to Henry Chiang's business, and the issue that i ran into was the woman working the front desk was extremely frazzled, barely knew how to take an X-ray, and "Cleaned my teeth" for all of 2 seconds. Only to have the Mr.Chiang come in and look at my teeth and say "I wont work on any of your teeth until you get the broken one fixed" okay understandable. What wasn't understandable was the push for a root canal and a crown that would cost me $3,500 to get done. I went home without any treatment but a referral to UW Denistry.. low and behold my X-rays were never sent, and i was expected to fill out the form myself and fax it to the UW. When I called to ask about my X-rays the lady at the desk EMAILED them to me and told me to email them to UW myself this was back in February..... As time progressed I started to experience dental pain in my lower right side. So I called and scheduled an emergency appointment. Okay still decent looking. I go in and immediately Mr.Chiang began working on my teeth. He numbed me up and before it really even set in he began drilling... and drilling...and drilling...and drilling... To make matters worse while I'm in pain, while hes working on my teeth he looks at me and stuffs a cotton swab of "Medicine" on my broken tooth to get rid of the "infection" He said that that treatment is $300 a pop and he did it twice, in the midst of doing this and stuffing a broken tooth with cotton soaked in "medicine" he says "I will not charge you for this if you leave us a good review" I agreed thinking everything would work out in the end. The cincher here was he placed a metal band around the broken tooth and "rebuilt" the tooth with metal filling material. By the time I left his office I was in so much pain. To be expected after being hammered on. This was back in march... About 4 days ago I had to be rushed to Sea Mar in Marysville because the tooth he "rebuilt" was causing so much pain that I couldn't sleep. Couldn't eat, and the only thing i could drink was cold water. The dentist at Sea Mar immediately took X-rays and came back with an answer to my question. "Your pain is due to the tooth dying, because the metal material that he jammed into that tooth is embedded in the root of the tooth the metal was so far deep that its touching bone and nerve" They had to remove not just the tooth that was in pain, but the tooth behind it due to the metal filling portions being fused together during my visit to Mr.Chiangs office. Sea Mar took excellent care of me and in their words "Because you had bad work done by someone in our profession we will take care of the bill" I about cried, not just for the relief of pain from this "Rebuilt" tooth but from the fact I felt like I was being treated the way you should be when you go into the dentist. When I tried to call Henry Chiangs office after this I got passed through to their call center where I was wanting the direct line to their Dental office in bothell. I was told by 2 people that giving me the businesses phone number is sensitive information and they cannot do it. When I explained why i was calling I was also told by the supervisor of this call center "Hes not my dentist so why are you calling?" How does that make the situation better??? But this also explains why when I got a call from Henry's office its masked as a Towing company. Which to me shows some sketchy business practices. By going here you are supporting malpractice, review churning by holding an emergency treatment bill over the patients head until they see a glowing review. I didn't realize that was legal in Washington State. I did get in-touch with the main office and I did some digging on my insurance side of things to get Henry's full name, and their business operations license number. #1831106293 I will be submitting his office to the BBB and contacting the board of dentistry for Washington State. I went to Affordable Family Dentistry to take care of multiple problems. Dr. Chang has terrible bedside manners, but I was willing to go through with it because the hygienists were pretty good and it was close to my house when I started treatment. However, I was scheduled for a Tuesday afternoon appointment for the deep cleaning follow-up. I got there 10 minutes before my appointment to find the office locked and dark. I waited until 10 minutes after my appointment, thinking they might have just gone to lunch and would be back in time to start my appointment. They never showed, and I called and left a message. When the dentist, Hank, called me back, he told me that they had been to lunch and *forgot* about my appointment! I won't be going back, even after getting an email apologizing for missing the appointment. read more

I'm not too sure what to say about these guys. Not knowing much about dentistry myself, I can't say much, but I've been coming to Dr. Chiang for more than a year so I'm probably more qualified than some others who have only seen him once. Appointments have always been easy and they were flexible about my schedule. I've seen some reviews complaining about the staff being slow or needing to try a couple times at xrays. This is true, but also remember you're at a place called "affordable family dentistry". Not a place called "most experienced professionals in the world dentistry" Who cares if they are slow about your xray? Give a new guy a break. At first when I went there i wasn't sure about a lot it. The Dr seemed borderline rude he fixed my problem without issue, (an extraction), and later filled several large cavities for me. Dr. Chiang's bedside manner has seen marked improvements since I started seeing him over a year ago. Maybe he was new to the practice and still stressed out from dentist school haha. I visited this dentistry for the first time today. They were very pleasant and polite. The doctor answered all my questions, gave me good advice, and filled a few very minor fillings - quickly and painlessly. He noticed details about my teeth that I did not tell him about, which let me know that he knows what he's doing and understands teeth well. I am thankful for this place, as a lot of places did not take my insurance - looks like they are pretty flexible with insurance and payment plans. One minor detail, they are located right next to a Korean restaurant, so if you are very sensitive to smells you might notice a slight food odor inside the office. But it didn't bother me. read more

He told my wife and I both that our dental work would cost between $4500 &$6000 and even with my tooth that was hurting worse than anything I had ever experienced that I couldn't get it pulled for 2weeks. He acted like a stuck up jerk the entire time and was short tempered and rude to both of us. We went elsewhere and were treaeted for 1/5 of the cost imediately. I needed a root canal over the weekend (after me not listening to dentist recommendation of getting one earlier) and after leaving a message dentist gave me a call back in a few hours. He called in a script for me to get through the weekend after checking I was ok with that. When I went in during normal business hours they shifted their entire schedule in order to do the root canal the same day since I had already requested off work. My teeth have always been difficult to work on and I could tell the dentist welcomed the challenge. He spent the extra time to do everything right. Even when they were taking X-rays on my teeth and the hygienist couldn't get the right one, the dentist stepped in to do the X-rays so he could have the information he needed to make the best decision for my teeth. Next day dentist even gave me a call to see how I was doing. It's amazing how much better I already feel the next day. I see some comments talk about the price. First of all, there is no affordable dentistry work in the states. I would call this place fair and honest family dentistry as the name can be misleading if you need a lot of work done. I did some shopping around and found their prices to be competitive to others. Some other dentist said I should just take out the tooth which would have been less expensive but later on I would need an implant. This would cost more in the long run and I just wish I would have listened to dentist initial recommendation of doing the root canal instead of trying to just fill it. read more

Do not go their, you will be sorry! I went there for a tooth pain and the dental assistant called me in and took x-rays. After that she took me into a stall and said she was going to floss and clean an polish my teeth. It was a joke, she tilted me with my head lower then my feet. And what she did was not a through cleaning at all. The dentist came in and did his exam, and stated that I had crack teeth and that the one that was hurting needs to be taken care of. He came back with an estiment for over $3500.00 which included their Membership. Not once did anyone explain to me what that membership included, I called the next day and asked if they took Careington insurance, was told they never heard of it. I stated they were on the provider list, the next day I had to call again and was told the dentist never heard of that insurance. I then emailed several times about other insurances that showed him in their provider list, and no response ever. I went to the office today and stated I needed a copy of my x-rays so I can take them to another dental office. The front desk lady asked if I needed them emailed to the other dentist. I stated yes, then she went to a drawer and I thought it was a release form, then she stated it would be $35.00 for the transfer email. I told her forget it, I am not going to pay for that, nor do I have the extra money. Wow, where do I start? I went in hoping for a prescription for an infection which I had so much pain I was crying with the dentist. The dentist told me I need a root canal & crown lengthening. Which would be all out of my pocket about 2500.00 that's not really what bothers me, it's the fact I got no prescription to take away my infection. I'll be reporting to the BBB. I've spoke with another dentist and Doctor who are taken back due to my infection that this dentistry did not prescribe me any meds for my infection as it could turn life threatning since the abscess is in my lower teeth. I'm writing this in pain right now and now will be calling the dentistry who another dental office has referred me to. Don't go here!!! Brought my 24 yr old daughter here to be with her baby while she was in getting cleaning etc... an hour into her waiting they tel her she's "about" to come get her for X-rays. They made her sign a paper that stated if she's more than 15min late OR don't give 24 hours notice of cancellation they will charge her $50!!??? Why do Doctors think they are almighty with the powers?? IF this is the case she should be given a $50 check since she had to wait over an hour for him!!? Doctor was having issues with another surgery!!? Not her problem!! Just as if a child may get sick or an emergency arises on her side... Update: it has been over 3 months since I wrote this review, which I was pressured into writing. I have since had to change dentists and go through restorative dental work to repair the damage done by Dr. Chaing. Due to the substandard dental work he performed, I still do not have permanent crowns as it has taken months for my mouth to heal properly. I was required to pay in full prior to my appointment, which means I am now out over $6,000 to Dr. Chaing as well as having to pay another dentist for the restorative dental work and permanent crowns. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but after seeing 520 people on Google find my initial review helpful, I could not leave let this stand. Please, please do not go to this dentist. The only true statement in what I said below is that he did many procedures in one day that would normally take place in several appointments. This is important because I now know that there's a reason why they spread it out over several appointments. read more
