I've now been going to Affectionately Cats for over 20 years. We currently have two cats and both were adopted with a relatively rare virus called FIV. Some vets treat FIV like a death sentence and won't give these cats the time of day, but everyone at AC treats our little ones like beloved royalty. They take their time and answer all of our questions, and did a TON of research to share with us the best diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes to keep our cats healthy. We are not rich! Not by a long shot. We have small income, live in a small apartment, do not have money to toss away on unnecessary expenses. We've never felt that the vets at AC order gratuitous labs or x-rays or anything, and they always bring up the matter or cost very non-judgmentally in a way that would make us feel comfortable declining if we decided to do so. I've never felt pressured to do something I couldn't afford. We have never been pressured in the slightest to buy food or supplements them, they've always been completely fine with us buying from amazon or wherever I can get the best deal. Our cats are our family, truly. They have had rough lives before we adopted them and it's our honor, duty, and absolute pleasure to make sure they are happy and healthy for the rest of their lives. I would NEVER bring them to a vet where I felt that the cats or we as owners were being disrespected or where I felt they were getting sub-optimal care. My daughter and I were very excited to find a cat only vet. I took my cats first and it went well. My daughter brought in her elderly cat explaining that she had trouble with her last vet not explaining themselves well. The vet was wonderful explaining everything that her cat needed. She took all of the vet's advice and decided to have a surgery done to remove a polyp in his throat and bad teeth. We left excited about having a good vet. There...the problems started. The front desk staff never called to set up a date for the surgery. She called and asked for a return call. None. It took her a month to set up a surgery date only to have it moved TWICE each time the front desk staff being increasing snippy. They would not give her a detailed list of what the surgery entailed. Finally got her cat in today. Drop off was 8:00 am and pickup was 4:00 - 5:00. They called her while her cat was under anesthesia and told her that if she wanted the teeth removed there would be an upcharge. She stated that the teeth were supposed to be removed. It was in the original quote. They told her that it wasn't. She stated that no she was already paying $2500 that was supposed to include everything. They said fine. Your cat is ready to be picked up. It is 11:00 am. She stated that she was at work and not supposed to pick up him up until 4:00 p.m. The response was well since you aren't getting the teeth removed he can be picked up now. I can't even begin to explain the frustration, disappointment and anger that this experience has generated. This is a beloved animal who has been with us for 14 years and they are using him as a bargaining chip to force more money out of her. STAY AWAY! read more

Really skeptical of all the negative reviews here... My cat and I have been coming to Affectionately Cats for a few years now. He's been very sick from infections and kidney issues and I trust AC and their team wholeheartedly. I appreciate their guidance and constant updates and communication on my cat's health. Vet care is expensive... but that's what pet insurance is for. The front desk staff has been nothing but friendly and loving toward my cat. The doctors (specifically Kayla) are amazing and knowledgeable, and always run tests and procedures by me even during covid protocols. I've never been surprised by a bill, they have always talked it all through with me before doing anything. I have also boarded my cat here before, and they have never done any tests or procedures without my explicit consent to do so. I felt very comfortable with my cat in their care. read more

They lied to us, their flea treatment didn't work, and then forced us to pay for a visit we were 10 minutes late for. Literally simple google searches are better cat advice than what they told us. The vets and staff of Affectionately Cats are the most dedicated and professional people I have met. I bring cats from New York once a month to be altered, and the staff make me feel welcome. They do an outstanding job of reducing the plight of stray, abandoned, feral and people owned cats by spaying/neutering and vaccinations for $60! There is no veterinary practice in northern NY that can match not only the price but the care that is provided for each and every cat. It is obvious that the staff has a passion for cats. When I first adopted I looked into bringing my cat here. They were extremely rude and unfriendly. I let it go and instead decided it was whatever. I needed to go away for the weekend and looked into their boarding prices and policies. I emailed them with questions and here's what I learned: Their boarding facility is not monitored 24/7. Someone comes in to feed them twice a day and that's it. Also they told me if I wanted updates it would be an additional $9 a day. That's insane considering their prices are outrageous enough. 10/10 wouldn't waste my money here for care that isn't caring at all. read more

Our cat has a very rare disease and can not process copper. We had taken her to another vet and they said oh its just the herpes dont worry but she kept getting worse so we went to Affectionately cats and they properly diagnosed her. She would be dead if we hadnt brought her to Affectionately Cats. They are very gentle and are very responsive to her needs. I boarded my cat with them for a few days, and came back to a $400 bill because they ran all kinds of tests and administered all sorts of non-sense medications, like appetite stimulants to my cat that I never asked for and they didn't clear with me. They also claimed that my cat, who has ZERO interaction with other animals, has parasites, and failed to introduce her to wet foods as they promised. Mmmmmm X, I assure you it is the same business. Thank you for your kind words, and you are entitled to your opinion, but I stand by what I wrote. You may have just been lucky, but you'll notice I'm not the only reviewer that had issues with them trying to coerce. On the other hand, you may just be a trusting person, and who knows if your cat even had all these complicated issues (if that assessment is based on what they told you over at Affectionately Cats, I would be suspicious). Because this is part of the issue that myself and others have had with them-- they over-treat cats in an irresponsible, even unethical manner, apparently with the goal of making more money off of their customers. This was my experience, and others' as well, so we can't all be imagining it. The thing with people like this is that they are generally very good at acting and telling you what you want to hear-- especially when the result is more money in their pocket. They assured us our cat would be "all better" after their expensive (and turns out-- unnecessary) procedure, when we specifically asked them about his unexplained symptoms and told them we didn't want him to suffer as a "medical mystery case" and that if this treatment would not address the root cause (which they either intentionally ignored at first, or negligently didn't catch until several days later), then we would rather put him down. Instead, their greed led to untold stress for our cat and ourselves, and a terrible last month of life, full of suffering for our dear friend. I'm sorry but THAT is just despicable and UNforgivable. (Note: Readers beware, I suspect several of these reviews are written by Affectionately Cats themselves and not by real customers.... especially because they kept pushing this diet idea of theirs when we were there, and this features prominently in several reviews.... Also, you'll notice the positive reviews are from people with only one review and no picture etc.... who opens a yelp account just to give one short positive review to a vet? Just sayin'....... I brought my cats in last year for their first visit, and have only had positive experiences since. It's really a bummer to see the other two reviews on here, fingers crossed that we continue to only have good experiences! We've had three visit in total and each time I've been given a clear quote that outlines all possible avenues of treatment, and I never feel pressured into any of them. In fact, more than once I've been told when something "Isn't completely necessary, but would be ideal" and I'm never made to feel guilty if I decide that "isn't necessary" is my choice. The day after each appointment someone calls to check in and make sure the cats are doing well, even if they only had a routine check-up. Both of our cats had to go in for dental work recently, and I was very apprehensive about putting them under. Dr. Kessler was very understanding and helped assuage my fears by sharing information about the sedatives they use to reduce the amount of anesthesia during surgery. She was very understanding of my concerns, and helped us make the decision that getting their dental issues dealt with would be best for them in the long run. Again we were given a rate card with a quote range, and were billed within that range - no unpleasant surprises. The clinic itself is a lovely facility - they have carpeted exam rooms and your cats are allowed to explore the space while they wait. The rooms even have little boxes (or the tops halves of covered litter boxes) for nervous kitties to hide under and feel safe. The vets and technicians are always patient, answer all of my questions, and never make me feel rushed. I look forward to an on-going relationship with Affectionately Cats. read more

I had my vet from NH fax them the paperwork stating that they were up to date on their shots, and while I was gone they gave them the shots again, saying that they never got the fax. I was also told my cat needed over $800 in dental work. I think not! read more

Flat out, the best most caring Vet I have ever been too. We went to another local Cats only place and were severely disappointed by just about everything. And not only that they recommended as diet that put my cats life in danger. Affectionately Cats saw what trouble my cat was in and did a life saving surgery. Got him on the right diet and within a week I noticed a big change, now a year later my cat is doing amazing. He truly is a new cat! Affectionately Cats is my vet and I have boarded my cat in the boarding facility. My cat was well taken care of in a very clean, bright and safe environment. I brought her food and that was given to her. The first time I boarded her there, they did test for some things, but that was for the safety of other cats present. They explained this to me before I brought my cat in. it was my choice to decide whether or not I wanted to follow their guidelines. In subsequent visits, I was charged the rate established and there were no surprises. When I had to board her there for 3 weeks (because of my surgery), she was very well taken care of and treated with kindness and care. She came back to me happy and not at all traumatized. yes, it's expensive but I got what I paid for. It was worth it for me to know that my beloved kitty was in a clean, safe and caring environment. read more

When my first cat was suffering and needed to be put down, the receptionist rudely and unsympathetically, told me I had to make an appointment and would not take me that day. I have never had a vet tell me they would not find time to assist with a terminal patient when it was suffering and needed to be put down. When we did arrive the vet came in laughing and jolly like it was not serious, in total disregard of the situation and how distraught I was. Bizzare and completely lacking empathy. This same receptionist accused me of leaving with unpaid samples. Samples -that read "sample" on the packets that were given to me by a vet tech -who assured me they were FREE-and I made sure to double check with her before leaving. So the next time I came in I faced an angry receptionist insisting I pay for what was "free" and accusing me of something that did not happen. There are ways to handle these situations and that was not it. Most recently, I have reached out after many years, in an emergency situation to get old medical records for my current cat. I have asked for a full week to have 8-year old medical records forwarded to an internal medical specialist at a full fledge Animal Hospital in a different state. After 5 days the vet still has not "approved" these records to be sent to the hospital. I was told the vet will not provide patient records directly to me, either. The hospital I am now going to called to request the records and still did not get a response. Our appointment is tomorrow morning 8am and the vet still has not decided whether to "approve" the forwarding of my cats medical records and diagnostic information. I have never had a vet clinic say they would not send out necessary medical information (within 24hours) because the DR. needs to review and "approve" whether they can be sent out. This is so unprofessional to withhold vital information - especially for a client they have had no contact or interaction with, in so many years. It does not surprise me that after all this time they still behave in such a way that calls into question their judgment and true intent in serving their clients. I came across the above review by accident, while looking for another local business that starts with an "A" and was absolutely shocked to read the Affectionately Cats review posted by Data V. While my heart goes out to him/her and the family in the loss of their beloved family member, I also can not help but post a review that is diametrically opposite to their experience. I just can not be believe that we would be talking about the same practice!!!! You be the judge: My story is that I found Affectionately Cats close to seven years ago (while they were still in Charlotte), after feeling utterly frustrated with another local provider of veterinary medicine. At that time, my 12-year-old kitty's health was deteriorating, and I felt that we were losing him. I am pleased to say that he is purring by my side seven years later while I am writing this! This kittie's case is extraordinarily complicated: chronic inflammatory bowel disease and pancreatites, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, and, most recently, renal failure. Through it all, the doctors at Affectionately Cats have been ubelievably competent, systematic in their thinking, on top of the recent literatures, as well as engaged, compassionate, and very approachable. I have no doubt that they have saved his life on several occasions, and have competently guided me in his care to maximize his quality of life. In the seven years of working with them, I have always felt that the kitties' wellbeing was the ultimate value with which they practiced veterinary medicine. I have always felt listened to and respected, never coerced into any procedure, always made felt like ultimately decisions about care were up to me (but the doctors were there to guide me, based on their understanding of the relevant literatures), and immensely supported during the tough times. Again, while I feel for Data V.'s loss, and my heart goes out to him/her and the family, I also wonder if we are talking about the same group of people...... My experiences with Affectionately Cats - with a cat whose health situation is extremely complicated - have been extraordinarily positive! read more
