From the moment we arrived, Lisa, Shantell, and Niyah made my son feel comfortable and cared for while assisting with his X-rays, splinting, and casting. Their professionalism and warmth created a reassuring environment that made the entire visit smooth and stress-free. Dr. Melissa was equally wonderful as she was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind in her care. My son said it was the best experience he's ever had at an urgent care or anywhere. Lisa, in particular, truly stood out. Even while training a colleague, she was fully present, patient, and genuinely caring, making my son feel safe and valued. Their front staff were pleasant. They saw me quickly. I was treated and given meds for sinus infection and bronchitis. I felt so better in about 10 hours. and drastically better by the next morning. I recommend and will also use them in the future if needed. The only part I did not like was the paperwork. Repeated questions on two seperate forms. read more

No issues with the quality of care, but lots of issues at the front desk. First, the "clipboard" they gave me to fill out paperwork was just a glorified piece of cardstock and was so flimsy that it was basically useless. Then the guy at the front desk tried telling me I wasn't a returning patient, despite having been there about a year prior AND literally being their first patient ever when they originally opened - they gave me a gift basket of swag. THEN the guy had a problem with my insurance card and tried to tell me I didn't exist in whatever database he was trying to access. I told him it was probably a typo, and then magically he was able to find me. The final nail in the coffin is that they charge a 2.9% "convenience fee" for using a credit card (and of course they don't tell you beforehand). So my $50 copay came out to be $51.49. In my 40 years of life, I have NEVER been charged a fee for using my card by any medical practitioner. Ever. Due to all of this new BS, coupled with my miserable experience last visit, I'm never going back - I don't care how sick I am. read more

I thought I would give this place another try. I came in with my 16 month old she fell from standing on the floor. I told them what happened. They had me fill out paperwork. I completed the paperwork. Then the front desk turned us away saying there wasn't anything the doctor would do. They literally waited for us to complete the paperwork and told us to leave. My daughter was seen down the street at the other urgent care promptly. It turned out it was just bruise but the audacity to tell us to leave without letting us check in the see the physician is so wrong. I am a nurse and if anything happened to my child I would have sued the pants off this place. They didn't even give us an ice pack. read more

First I just wanted to say I've been going to this urgent care center for years. I've always loved Dr Thur. My interaction last night was a nightmare. I arrived at AFC around 7:10pm, they close at 8pm. After waiting for over an hour for my daughter to be seen & many unsuccessful attempts to verify my insurance (user error, my insurance is valid) [there was also another white family who's insurance was not verifiable, they were not questioned if they had Medicaid or treated with disrespect, in fact they were willing to take the necessary steps to care for the child] My interaction with the nurse Danielle, was totally opposite of what transpired with the other family. Without making any additional attempts, she loudly stated I needed to leave or pay $200 because they weren't able to verify my insurance. As a former health care worker, I advised there is a provider number on the back of the card & she could easily call to verify my insurance through their automated system. She REFUSED! She stated "We're not going to call the provider verification number because we're closed, you can either pay or leave. I don't know what else to tell you. I'm not going back & forth with you" & walked away... I was furious, I couldn't believe Danielle was so rude & insulting. Then I realized I was being discriminated against because they thought I had Medicaid, which was not true, I guess because I'm young & black. I've never been more humiliated in my life. I advised it wasn't Medicaid & I literally begged them to just call the provider number on the back of the card, I wanted to cry because my daughter was in so much pain & they showed no empathy, just kept reiterating they don't see patients "for free" I've submitted an official provider complaint through my insurance because it's obvious they discriminate against Medicaid patients & no one deserves to be treated this way, especially when dealing with a sick child. Went this morning at 8AM to get a covid test done. I understand the healthcare field considering I've been working in it the last five years. When I got there only five people ahead of me. I went back got triaged by a nurse and at 8:24am I got nose swabbed and the lady left the room. At 9:38am, the same lady came knocking and just quickly says I was making sure someone was still in this room and before I could say anything, she was gone. Finally I had enough at 10:24am. I opened the door and the nurses looked at me like I was crazy. Said I am not sure what I am waiting on, that I've been waiting for two hours and don't know what I am waiting for. Finally then lady tells me my covid test was being sent out to lapcorp and they don't know why I'm here. They couldn't find my chart or where my name kept going on there list. The lady gets me my paperwork, says sorry ma'am and tells me I can leave. Very disappointed that I never got checked on with the door closed for two hours. Very disorganized and I'm confident they put my insurance in incorrectly. Just won't be going back. Definitely didn't think my time was precious like the photo says. read more

I've had great service the past three visits for urgent needs. I was about to switch to my primary care to this facility when I had a conversation with the office manager, Farah. This conversation turned sour quickly. She spoke down to me, was argumentative, and breached professional hospitality boundaries that not anyone in the health care system should breach. When I asked to speak with corporate, she hung up on me. I called back and asked if we were disconnected or did she hang up on me. Without much of any utterance of my presented question, she placed me on hold for several minutes while she called the owner, Latrice Clark, to share her side of her actions eventually coming onto the phone sharing the owner's cell phone. I did speak with the owner and she was incredibly present, apologizing for her team, and even offered a "peace offering." I honestly felt like she was wonderful and would even consider the idea of breaching my own self worth to approach Farah in person for care. I declined and will go to Velocity around the corner, instead. I'm a clinician and am never spoken to like this. Even as a customer and patient, one should never have to feel that the "care provider" will alienate or grieve your soul to the point of not trusting the care provider. I gave three stars, because my experience has been wonderful until the dialog today. The owner was great to communicate with, she heard me, listened, and I felt as if I was "seen" as well as the one who described her as "buck stops here..." But the office manager, if there was no interface with her, or if she even apologized, this dialog would not have even been needed. She was defiant all the way through to the sharing of the owner's cell phone number. This is what warrants this review and my time to share such. Perception is everything here. A bad day perhaps... whatever it was, lost this customer/patient. Beware of Farah. If you do speak, speak softy and kindly. She doesn't like to be challenged or many questions really and she prefers to direct and manage you, patient. I've been here once for a covid test and been treated like garbage, but, that is no match for what they did to my fiancé the other day. He had gotten off of work and wasn't able to go until they almost closed. They took him in, did barely any work, sent him home with some random medicine that made his symptoms EVEN WORSE!!! He went to a REAL doctors office and they told him that the medicine they gave him at urgent care made it worse and now he has kidney stones and a UTI. WHAT THE HELL???? This place is absolutely unprofessional. I just spoke to someone today ( July 20,2022) over the phone at 6:26 pm and they told me to come on in. I let them know I believe I have strep and they told me as long as you come in before 7pm that I was good to go. I showed up 6:32pm and was turned away. They need to get there shit together. Don't answer the phone with a yes and then turn someone away. I told them I needed the test to make sure I could go back to work and that I was directed to come in and then turned away a few minutes later. I'll never try coming back to this place again. I am in horrible pain I need help. No one is listening. The doctor yesterday just rammed that piece inside my prolapse and I been in horrible pain. Misdiagnosed me and said it was a hemroid and said get a second opinion. How can a doctor be so cruel. I have her on tape yelling at me with managers. What the heck. I went to Sintera where she said to go. They overdosed me on 4 miligrams of morphine and ask if I wanted more before, I leave??? This has been by far the most medically helpful place/Dr I have ever been to! Dr Thur is an amazing Doctor. He is compassionate and listens to what you explain about your health. He is smart as a whip and uses common sense. He has cured me and has kept me comfortable when I've been in a world of pain and sickness. Yes, the waits are crazy long, but worth it. I took a chance on going to AFC instead of Patient First, mainly because you could make an appointment. So with my 1:30 appointment in hand I arrived early enough to fill out all paperwork. At 2:45 I approached the receptionist inquiring about my appointment, at first she was very rude but that all changed when she realized she made a mistake and never let them know I was waiting. The fun began from there! The nurse practitioner walked in, told me he knew I was there for a back pain told me he would order x-rays and walked out. 40 minutes after the x-rays he walked back in told me the x-rays were negative, handed me a prescription for Motrin and muscle relaxer and walked out. The place has an option to schedule a time online. However, it doesn't matter whether you schedule or not, they will not prioritize you over anyone else that just walks in around the time of your appointment. So just saying, their online scheduling system is useless if you will just be treated as a walk in anyway. Be prepared to wait hours either way regardless of the time you may have picked. read more

Staff was unfriendly and didn't know wtf she was doing when she drew blood. I had an impromptu pelvic exam that I didn't even know was going to be done until seconds before, very unprofessional. They had originally told me that everything was fine and normal and then I'm told to call them back they had some issues, I call back and they tell me I've got an std which was suspicious why tell me everything is fine then out of the blue tell me that?! I didn't trust their testing or judgement so I went to my Primary Care Physician to get a full panel and get re-tested. I am clean and nothing is wrong so they gave me false information that almost caused my boyfriend and I to break up and almost ruined me life. I called back to tell them they were wrong and they need to do better testing and was told that I was given the wrong test results over the phone. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I brought my elderly mother for a UTI on Saturday afternoon. The receptionist was courteous and professional and the nursing staff was excellent. My mom gets cold easily and the nurse got her a warm blanket and even brought a small heater into the exam room right by her feet. Mom really appreciated the extra care. The testing was done quickly and prescription sent to the Rite Aid a block away, that we picked up at the drive through. She was back home in time for dinner The whole process took a little over an hour including medication pick-up. Of course the provider was excellent as well. Anyways, the wait was pretty long, it was on a weekend and the waiting room was full. BUT it was totally worth it. She helped us find the best coupons for a close by pharmacy because I didn't have health insurance. She was very committed to listening, and not just charging us for a bunch of unnecessary tests. She was patient and wasn't in a rush to get you in and out. Most nurses there are/were ER nurses as well. They are an independent urgent care and if you can be patient and don't mind the wait, I suggest going here. I am annoyed by the wait time even though an appointment was placed (@12 and now it's 1) and the customer service and organization. I had an appointment yesterday at 4 which they said was never placed so u had them place it in front of me for 12 the next day. I drove from Moyock, NC to Suffolk, VA because I knew the best place to get fast and exceptional care was with Dr. Clarke and his team! I had to wait maybe 5 minutes to get seen by a provider. The provider listened to my concerns, diagnosed me and sent prescriptions to my pharmacy right away. The next day I felt 100% better because of the medications she prescribed. As a nurse I am very picky about who I go to even for non emergent issues. I have been to many other urgent care centers in Hampton Roads but this is by far the best one! read more

I came down with a bad case of the flu and had pulled a muscle in my back from severe sneezing and needed to see a doctor on Sunday. I decided to try AFC Urgent Care which is located within 10 mins of my home in Harborview. I found parking right out front and walked it to a completely empty lobby. I was thinking great no wait lol. No one was at the desk but I walked up to the registration screen and entered my info like I have done at other Urgent Care Centers. The big difference though is no one came to the front desk to welcome me or process me. I could hear voices in the back but no one was manning the front desk. I gave American Family Care Urgent Care in Suffolk 5 stars. I wish I could have given them 500 stars. The staff there is beyond professional and very caring. Due to crazy circumstances, I had to be tested for Covid-19 and I also was got the Covid-19 antibody test. AFC is the best and I would go back in a heart beat. I had to wait about 2 minutes to be seen and Dr. Clarke is AWESOME. Thank you AFC for taking such phenomenal care of me. extremely frustrated with this clinic. being out of my hometown, urgent care clinics are difficult to find based on maps. hoping to be impressed with the 3.5 rating for this place. called ahead to see wait times and if they could see me. extremely nice lady, i had just woken up and grateful for her patience. i had been here for 2 hours now at this point. took me an hour and a half to be called back, understandably with the patients before me. i get called back, the nurse is extremely rude to me and shoves me around to get where she needs to be. i've been sitting in the room without being seen for 30 minutes now, the staff outside talking about their days, weekend plans, and laughing over their conversations, mocking and joking at the previous patients. extremely frustrated with this lack of urgency, lack of basic kindness for patients seeking their care, the crudeness and the environment as a whole. update: lady walked in with a swab, complete assumption without consulting me and why i came in. i told her how i felt and why that wouldn't be beneficial. i explained my symptoms to her and she had the spaciest look behind her eyes and just stood there as if i was speaking a foreign language. she told me "maybe that isn't what he wants, (i'm assuming doctor), let me double check" understandable. but i did not appreciate the assumption without consulting why i was there. after waiting there for awhile longer, i hear them outside ask my last name and if i had my culture, there was hushed talking and then laughing and i hear a crude, insensitive comment about my fainting earlier today and how i told the nurse that was my biggest concern. after sitting there awhile longer, i have had enough and open my door and ask to leave. they tell me i have to wait for paperwork and it'll be another minute. and after waiting longer again, my fiancé asked my status and tried to release me and told her "i didn't need paperwork" they copped an attitude with her and have had one with me the whole visit. the doctor came in as the nurses were being rude to my fiancé and i told him i'm leaving and he put his arms up to guide me to the clinic bed to check me out and i told him that i was leaving yet again. and he snapped and told me to leave then. the receptionist was phenomenal. however, the whole nurse section and staff is rude, insensitive, entitled, lazy, and honestly just assholes. save your time and your energy. read more
