We have found this facility to be A1 for care, efficiency, customer service, and cleanliness…read more I highly recommend this family care center when in need of care for minor ailments. We are from out of town and have gone there on two separate occasions and could not be more pleased. Highly recommend!

I would give Dr. McDermott, his NPs, and Nursing staff 5 stars all day every day (even though they…read morecould not figure out what what my issue was and it took 2-3 visits to them and 4 visits to the ER to finally locate the problem), but at least they tried, and the NP I saw was EXTREMELY sweet and competent. The office staff, however is rude and lies. When I moved back to the area they were a close provider and I noticed on their sign that they are also a family medical practice provider. So when I went in for my first visit I asked that I be established as a regular patient and that they be my PCP. "No problem." they said. My second visit there I was presented with a huge bill and when I questioned it, I was assured I was being billed for primary care services. After my ER visit I went in to be seen to let them know what my final diagnosis finally was and that I needed to get some medications refilled that had been prescribed the ER. It was THEN I was told that they only provide "Family medicine" services for those who need like 3 months of medications at a time (you know the easy things things they can bill crazy high prices to the insurance companies for I imagine). So, now I am sick, have multiple health problems, had been told by them ON MULTIPLE occasions that they were my PCP but was then left high and dry. I attempted to find a PCP, but since they have all my records and are the provider I had been seeing, when I needed paperwork filled out because of a need for an ADA leave from my job, no one else would see me or address the situation. So I went BACK to them to explain and the office manager punched into her computer and advised that I had only ever been seen as an urgent care patient. I said that can't be right because I specifically asked, and was told that they would see me as my PCP, "Well that's what's the computer says....lol" She said . She advised that Dr. McDermott was no longer accepting patients for primary care, and I helpfully suggested they may want to add that to the "Family Medical Sign" and was rudely advised that they can put anything they want on their sign (evidently even when it is misleading at best and false advertising at worst.) Needless to say, I will be contacting the Board of Medicine to report this as well as to my insurance company as I was told I was being changed for PCP services and NOT urgent care, and will also be seeking relief in small claims court with the assistance of my attorney to try to recoup the money I already paid and/or at least have my bill reduced to the PCP rates. I may not prevail, but them having to answer the complaint from the medical board and attend a court hearing should MORE than make up for the inconvenience they have caused me. SO if you need MINOR (and I mean minor) care, and are willing to pay ridiculously high prices, by all means go here. Dr. McDermott and the nursing staff are very very nice. The office staff and manager, however need some serious training in customer service, ethics and transparent and correct billing practices.

They were unable to give me any prices, they dont have any fee schedule. I asked for an approximate of a regular doctor's consultation. All they said, basically, was bring $60 and we bill you the rest! This should not be even be legal! So, basically they assume I will have whatever money they feel like charging me afterwards and of course if I do not they will send me to collections (typical). So it could be hundreds or thousands of dollars and I will not know until they bill me? I work at a dental office and when patients call we tell them the price for a consultation, the x rays, teeth cleaning, Etc. In that way the patient can freely decide if they can afford and want to go to our office or they prefer to go to a more affordable one for them . The Sentara system sounds very abusive to me. How can they take advantage of a sick patient? So unethical!!!

Disgusting isn't it? What an absolute rip off! These tests you can purchase for COVID/Flu/Strep cost 10-20 dollars tops at a pharmacy. You can surely bet I would decline this test had I known these prices. A new patient fee? Really? Okay, sure...but 163.68? Are you for real?! lol, I provided my whole medical history and medication list. Here's another funny one....how do you define after hours care? Wouldn't that be hours outside of your listed hours open for business? Yes. The majority of the world would think that "after-hours care" meant outside your normal business hours. Good thing I went soon as they opened, and was charged for after-hours care--truly unbelievable. The ladies at reception are all very kind & professional. Gabby helped get us checked in this morning and was very pleasant & sweet to my little one. I appreciate how clean this facility is. The waiting room has plenty of seats, hand sanitizers & face masks available. They also have a TV playing kids shows to keep the littles entertained during the wait. I also appreciate that everything is in my chart if you're already a patient for CHKD & then the Primary Care Physician has access to the visit as well. I much prefer this urgent care over another due to their attention to children and warm environment.

We immediately panicked & checked Urgent Care closing times. CHKD Urgent Care closed in 45 minutes. We made it just in time. When they called him back his Dad went with him & I waited in the clean spacious waiting room. Other people came & went without my family returning. Finally the security guard told me the Lobby was closing & that I could go back to the exam room with my family. The exam room area was spacious with a large number of curtained exam rooms surrounding an equally large medical personnel station. The staff at the station were friendly and greeted me when I entered. The quality of care was phenomenal. An extra doctor was called in to consult since it was an unusual rash. They were extremely determined to solve his problem, which was the reason for the delay. It wasn't an allergy, caused by bites or even something like poison ivy. It was a viral rash. They also did a throat swab for strep. The first doctor explained things concisely & offered suggestions for care. I was very impressed that they took so much time with him after closing hour. The next morning a friendly person called with the report that the strep test was positive. She called in medication to my local pharmacy. It was an extremely positive experience. We are so lucky to have Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters on the Norfolk GeneraL / EVMS / CHKD Campus. Their Virginia Beach Urgent Care facility is located on a Loehmann's Plaza out parcel on Virginia Beach Boulevard. It is a relatively new facility built in the late 2010's. I watched its construction as I drove home from work before I retired. At that time, with an adult son, I never envisioned having a personal need for it. But I still remembered the panic I experienced when something was wrong with my son. So I was happy families in Virginia Beach had access to the facility. Now I'm happy for its help with my Grandson.

When I was trying to decide which ER to take my visiting sister to, I replayed my experiences with all the surrounding ones in my mind. My sister had a very unusual problem. My thoughts immediately went to the fact that Beach General was a Level 1 Trauma Center. So I anticipated the most skilled physicians to be there. But I also remembered my long waits there previously. My friend's Mother is a nurse in the Oncology section, which is close to the ER. Her mother told her that the ER parking lot didn't look busy. It was the middle of the day, So I decided on Beach General. What a mistake! Walking in I was very pleased that the Waiting Room was almost empty. I put on one of their surgical masks and helped my sister check in. We waited a little longer than I would have thought to be taken to a room. That's where the real wait began. The doctor & nurse were extremely nice. But try as they might they couldn't replicate the condition that had been nonstop since my sister's visit began. It was similar to taking your misbehaving vehicle in for repair and it works perfectly fine only when it's there. In the interim I kept seeing EMT pushed patients arriving one after the other past our exam room door. The visits from our care team grew very far apart. The hour grew later & later. I went to the bathroom once. There were patients in beds lined along all the walls outside both the exam rooms & the large medical staff station in the center of the ER. Some looked extremely ill. Finally the nurse said that they were going to give my sister a dinner to try to bring on her problem. She said the meal they brought was delicious. It looked & smelled that way. I had been there for many hours but was not offered a meal. The EMT's kept coming in. The Care Team visits became almost nonexistent. I really felt empathy for them because they were extremely understaffed for the huge level of incomings. Finally I decided to go to the Medical Station to try to talk to someone. My sister's problem was obviously not going to be replicated that night. And there were very sick patients waiting for a room. Fortunately the doctor was available. She agreed to dismiss my sister but have her return for imaging. No way would it be Beach General was the thought going through my head. We left with it dark, late & me being extremely hungry. Thank goodness there were leftovers in the refrigerator. Did you think that I just described the worst part of the visit? Not so! Sigh.... Two days later I woke up with a sore throat & a headache. It got worse & I felt extremely weak as the day progressed. Should i have someone bring me a Covid test? I had been so careful for years because I'm high risk. But my worst fears were realized. I tested positive & began a terrible month long bout with the newest variant. The only place I had been outside my house during that time period was the ER. No one had visited. It was obvious that the ER was the only place where I could have contracted my first and hopefully only case of Covid. Needless to say I will choose one of the other nearby ER's should I ever have the need for one again.
