The theater brings in both local and international performers and is the site for many student performances from UH-Hilo and Hawaii Community College. An annual highlight is the UH-Hilo International Student Association's "International Nights" held every February. Student and community performances are featured from over a dozen countries from around the Pacific, Asia, North America, and Europe. That the event is student coordinated is especially impressive. Facilities are quite nice. Though the outside looks worn, the interior is comfortable, clean, and professional. I especially appreciate that the facility is wheelchair accessible since my mom loves to attend shows. When she is in a wheelchair, we are seated on the top row with a great view since no seat is too far from the stage. The box office is once again easily accessible at the entrance to the building. Previously it was hidden in the back of the building during the construction of a nearby building. Most tickets can be bought in person, over the phone, or online. There are often discounts for students, senior citizens, and alumni. Facilities are available for rent by non-university affiliated organizations if conducting "charitable, civic, community, cultural or educational activities which are operated on a not-for-profit basis and whose activities are appropriate for such facilities where the use does not infringe upon, delay or conflict with the normal operations of the University" (http://artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu/FacilityUseInformation.php).

The terrain we were hiking through was rocky and uneven. It basically did not feel good on the feet... Kai without question handed me his flip flops and did the rest of the tour barefoot!! My son…read moreand I attend the adult gi classes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6-7:30 p.m., and the no‑gi class on Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m., and we are consistently impressed by the quality of instruction and training environment. The facility is a large, clean warehouse space with plenty of mat room, so even bigger classes never feel crowded and everyone can train safely. The atmosphere is easy‑going and welcoming, and over time we've met great people from all walks of life who support each other on and off the mats. Instruction is clear, technical, and safety‑focused, and unsafe behavior gets addressed quickly and appropriately in the adult classes I've attended. The professor and his family are around the gym supporting classes all the time, and they are hardworking, likable people who clearly care about the students and the academy. They've recently added adult morning classes on Tuesdays from 7-8 a.m., and there are often guest clinics and open mats on Saturdays, which makes it easy to find extra training opportunities. The layout of the gym is very parent‑friendly because it's one big open space, parents always have a full view of every training area when kids are on the mats. There are also picnic tables for any family or friends that come to observe classes. The Rio Açaí also sets up on certain days each week which is great for observers or students after class. Overall, Alameda Jiu Jitsu offers a safe, friendly, and high‑quality place to train on the Big Island, and I highly recommend stopping by for a class or joining as a regular member.
