My mother was recently at Aegis for a month on a respite stay. This was her first experience with…read moreassisted living, and I cannot express how impressed I am with the staff at Aegis. The first point of contact was Joan in Marketing; she was and remains compassionate, honest and has provided many resources for me and my family. She knew from day one that we would not be able to afford permanent residence, and she has assisted with everything from referrals to an elder law firm to placement agencies, as well as providing support and encouragement. My mom's stay at Aegis ended after Thanksgiving, and Joan has still been in contact with me to follow up on my mom's care. The staff: I really doubt there's a better staff anywhere. From the team at the concierge desk (Isumi, Bob, Paul, Ailie), to dining (Sarah, Jenn, Linda,...) to the wonderful care team (Democracy!! Tierra, Monique, Sharon, Kristen, Spencer, Anna, Cole, Alex,.... the list is endless!) and the life enrichment team (Susan! Vince!) and the security team, who I saw daily at 6 am. My mom was in such good hands, and it was plain to see that everyone was truly compassionate, that this was not just a job, but they really care and are compensated well for their hard work. The building is gorgeous, but this is mainly for the families to enjoy. The residents of course love being in such a beautiful home with all these amazing features (the theater! the belfry!), but what really counts is the care. After touring several other assisted living facilities, it was quite plain to see the difference. The Aegis staff truly cares. Yes, they're running a business, but they do not have itchy fingers and dollar signs in their eyes when meeting with you to discuss potential care costs, unlike several other well known assisted living facilities that I won't name. The cost is unfortunate as this really is unattainable for most, but I would strongly recommend this facility to anyone looking for the best place for a family member needing care.

It's a nice facility, but care is substandard. They create a care plan which is designed to charge…read morefor the services needed by the resident, but no accountability for delivering those services. My mother never consistently got the care we were promised (e.g., got one shower per month vs. 3 per week in the plan, almost never wearing her compression socks vs. paying to have these on each day). As well, as someone with dementia, she mostly sat alone in her room. During the sales process we were told how skilled the staff were engaging with dementia residents. We didn't see that after moving in, so would complain, we'd see temporary improvement, but always short lived. Staff turnover is high. There were many really great people that provided good care, but were quickly gone. Ultimately we moved her to an adult family home which was light years better and a fraction of the cost.

My dear brother, Ronald was at Alpine Residences for a few months before passing-away from cancer…read more He loved it there!!! He'd always tell folks that came to tour that it was "5 star service and treatment!" He felt like royalty. I toured other places but I could "feel" the care & comfort that Alpine would provide. It was also less expensive & better than other adult family homes. It was an easy choice. I knew when I walked in when trying to decide where he would likely spend the last days, I could "feel" that this was "it." Very clean, pleasant & beautiful. Every room provided privacy & comfort. The grounds are lovely with attention & care to the landscaping & seasonal container gardening; very well-maintained. A large deck out front & gazebo in back that my brother truly enjoyed on sunny days was a big plus. He was hospitalized well over 100 days prior & wasn't able to "go out." Heather & Daniel, the owners, are both nurses with experience in adult family care. She was a director for decades & knows the ins & outs of what is needed for all situations for folks needing 24 hour care. Although my brother was only 68, they had a few tenants over 100 years old! Amazing to say the least. Heather scrutinized the prescriptions that kept changing and was "on it" when he finally needed to go back to the hospital. I'd hate to think what may have happened if it were not for her attention to his condition & needs. Alpine has a full staff of nurses that live in residence separated from the main floor so we felt assured that of my brother needed anything, anytime it was provided. Tony & Nova, the main nurses were so sweet & kind. They prepared meals & cared for my brother with absolute love & respect. They even made his recipe for spaghetti! I cannot say enough about Alpine Residences. If you can get your loved one in here, you will not regret it & would be very fortunate.

My good friend Joan came to Aegis Living Madison a few years ago from another assisted living…read morefacility that was no longer able to give her the care she needed. As her power of attorney, I met with Elizabeth to see if Aegis might be a good fit for Joan since a few of her friends from the other facility had already moved over. I was very impressed with both the facility and the caring staff when she moved in and with the staff that have come since. Joan is happy here and grateful that the staff pays attention to her individual needs and wishes and that they are more available and do a more complete job than the previous facility. She feels comfortable and at home here and is very appreciative of all the amenities (i.e. the enrichment program and excursions outside the facility) and services that have been added recently, such as visiting dental care and Powerback rehab. For me, I really appreciate how Aegis weathered the COVID pandemic and maintained my connection with Joan by adding the outside space where we could meet, and taking such good care of her when I couldn't be there. While the parking has recently been wild, it is really better than where she was before. Thanks for everything!

The facility was remodeled fairly recently and is lovely. If you are looking for perfection, you…read moreare not going to find it here or anywhere else. However, if your expectations are reasonable, you will find a caring staff, both administratively and in the services who try hard to fulfill the needs of residents and almost always succeed. As in almost all of these facilities, the workers tend to be underpaid and overworked. For them, it is a labor of love. Our 91-year old mother moved in almost four years ago and started out as an independent living resident, and transitioned into assisted living care as her Alzheimer's progressed. The residents do sometimes complain about the food, which is along the lines of what you get in a college dormitory, so don't expect to get everything cooked the exact way you want it. But the variety of meals is fine and other food options are available. They have a shuttle bus that regularly takes residents to a variety of department stores and grocery stores every week. There are also field trips available including Mariner's games, parks, occasional restaurants, and other activities. They even have a happy hour every Friday afternoon. There is a daily schedule of activities planned and posted each day for any resident who wishes to participate. Whenever we have made a reasonable request for anything regarding maintenance, food, or billing, they have always tried to accommodate us. The costs that we have experienced throughout this time were very reasonable and it would be hard to find more bang for your buck elsewhere. They have a tough job to do and they do it well.

We had an easy move-in and live very comfortably here. There are staff dedicated to moves. The move-in fee was big, but we sold our house, so not a problem. If you move or pass away, a large % of the fee is refunded. We get the equivalent of a big meal a day per person (or 2 small ones) included in our monthly fee, as well as fairly thorough housekeeping every 2 weeks. I don't own a vacumn. They gave us new carpet and I chose to have wood floors for part. On move in, you choose things like wall paint colors, etc. The dining rooms include a casual one where you can pick up meals or choose baked goods etc. I love the staff here. I hire someone to help me above and beyond, but could comfortably manage without if needed. I love to be surrounded by books and have built- in shelves. Maybe you will be lucky and move into a place like mine where the previous occupant did so. We have an electric fireplace. You can move in your furniture at your own expense or find helpful relatives. Parking is an extra fee, tiny if you compare it to city charges. We have a big swimming pool, a smaller warjacuzzi and hot tub, a " Restore "  of items donated or left behind, where I like to shop. It was created by and staffed with wonderful resident volunteers. Lots of programs of all kinds, classes like a writing class I'm fond of. Many other services help, like packages delivered to your apt door. During Covid, they delivered our food. I think you get a certain number of such deliveries a year/ free. They are NOT paying me for this review.
