Jake from Advocate stopped by my home. They were doing a hail damage roof down the street; and he was going door to door. He did a quick inspection. He said we had hail damage and they would deal with insurance and possibly get a new roof. I had some concerns after reading the contract, so I said I would get back to him. I did some checking with BBB. No reviews. Still, as I committed, I called Jake. He said he would send me a link, as all reviews are for BBB at home office and not Wisconsin BBB. (Really??) Anyway, we agreed to meet later that week to move forward, understanding I would check other social media reviews as well. Jake did not send a link to Advocate BBB reviews. I checked social media, including Yelp, and found numerous concerns with work quality and integrity. Google reviews were generally good, indicating Advocate has been effective for some people. Then Jake no-showed on the appointment. No call. No email. Just no-show. Too many red flags, so I moved on to another contractor. read more

This company does not respect your rights as a homeowner. I explicitly told them I was not interested in their services -- yet they returned to my property without invitation. That is not follow-up. That is unwanted solicitation and could easily be considered trespassing. Their sales rep was pushy, dismissive, and clearly trained to ignore the word "no." It's one thing to make a pitch -- it's another to disregard a homeowner's decision and come back uninvited. That behavior is not only unprofessional, it's legally questionable. Their aggressive sales tactics crossed the line from persistent to invasive. It felt like they were trying to wear me down rather than respect my decision as a homeowner. No one should have to deal with that kind of pressure, especially in their own home. If you want to work with a company that respects your boundaries and decisions, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. This was unprofessional and unacceptable. Furthermore, If you want to deal with a company that respects your autonomy and your private property, avoid this one entirely. A representative from Advocate Construction came strolling down our driveway after a hailstorm. If I knew then what I know now about this company I would have had the police remove him for trespassing. I'm 72 years old and I have never worked with a more deplorable company. The shingles were laid way out of scope according to the manufacturer's specifications; their solution, to have the manufacturer give us a waiver for when this becomes an issue. We will see how this works out. The first rainstorm after the shingles were laid the rain literally poured into areas of our house. Other areas, especially around the chimney, soaked through our attic and our wood in-laid ceiling in two rooms. This soaking spread as the months wore on. We had an interior wall begin to break apart from being rain soaked...rain eventually led to melting snow. At first we were told by every representative they sent out there was not a problem with the job. Eventually, after numerous videos and pictures they said they would repair the work. That took approximately six months and a lot of internal damage before they made the roof repairs. Over a year later they finally repaired the internal damage and while I've been steadily cleaning up the fine yellow dust that continues to settle due to our wood ceilings needing to be completely sanded, the repairs seem to be holding. Next, almost immediately, came their strong-arm tactics to collect the remaining amount due that had gone from $6,200.05 to $8,200.05. without receiving an invoice I received a call from in attorney in another state demanding I pay this immediately. Since I had never received an invoice and had to ask the attorney to lose his attitude (he didn't) I decided it was potentially a scam call. I contacted advocate construction inquiring with regard to that since I had no invoice. A few days later Matt came strolling down our driveway, invoice in hand wanting $8200.06. I had recently contracted COVID, warned him of this yet he wasn't concerned. He insists the additional $2,000 is our deductible. It appears Advocate (bizarre name considering they are anything but advocates) feels you should pay your deductible to your insurance company and then repay it to them. I wonder about the legality of this and since I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Wisconsin Department of Labor, and Consumer Protection, perhaps I'll find out. Irregardless, we have full replacement coverage through our insurance company so $6,200.05 is what they will be receiving. I want to also mention the mess the roofers left behind. I spent a month at least cleaning up shingles (some that damaged plants around the house), picking up nails (we have a dog and did not want him stepping on those), staples, beer cans (which I did report to Advocate), wrappers, etc. we also had nine additional bundles of shingles sitting in our driveway for over six months. This made snow clearance and car backing out difficult; nor did we receive any refund for these unused shingles. One of my highest concerns was that at no time did I see any roofer "tied off". We have a very steep roof in back and if anyone were to fall off that it would probably result in death. My husband has had to reinstall the gutter guards where workmen stepped through them. There truly is no aspect of this roofing job that isn't highly questionable. We have never had to write a negative review before; legitimate companies prefer to settle any issues quickly and to the customers satisfaction. I have videos, pictures, all texts, emails, even a letter from the general counsel asking for my patience in getting the inside repairs done as proof of this. Absolutely horrible. Advocate came out after hail damage in the area and with the consult of the insurance company, decided I needed a new roof. The day of tear off I was advised not to speak to the crew as they couldn't speak English. 4 males and 2 of their girlfriends showed up and the males removed the roof. It took 2 days to complete and when the task was done the roofers didn't install flashing between the 2nd story wall and roof, didn't flash around the upper level of the 2 bump out windows, left bare wood under one bump out window and left cigarette butts, bottle caps and razor blades in my lawn. I had to speak to a sales rep because the crew couldn't speak English and was told it would be fixed. The next few months I had various people show up with no announcements, half hearted attempts to sheet metal the proper flashing, caulking that looked like a 12 year old with an attitude did it. When the first rain came, the chimney flashing leaked. I was told it wasn't installed properly and an associate would fix it. A person came out, unable to speak English and with his translate phone told me he wants experienced enough and needed help to fix it. So another person came out and caulked the hell out of it. That winter it leaked. So they came out and tore the caulk off and re caulked it. The summer gave us alot of rain and water leaked around the bathroom vent, causing the ceiling drywall to damage as well as the chimney leaked...again. so I paid to have a professional fix the drywall, which advocate paid for, and sent another person to fix the chimney. I have in writing, a report from advocate that the bathroom vents were not properlly installed. I asked for my deduction back, $1000 , because I had to take 3 days pto to be on the property just to have the crew not know or improperly fix a problem.​ after 2 weeks the financial person from advocate said due to me telling my neighbors about my experience and them potentially not using there services, they refused to refund the deposit. Then I read (too late) about the poor work they do (from yelp) Finally after months of calls and texts threatening legal action I paid them NOT to do my roof and get out of the contract. read more

Door to door solicitation in spite of the "Do Not Solicit" sign on the front door, and then tried to convince me that my not so old 30 year roof needed replacement due to hail damage, unspecified, paid by insurance but that would have cost me $4K for the deductible. Roof replacement Tim was very prompt in assessing our needs for a roof replacement. Gave us the best value and upgraded the shingles option for us. Went out of his way to meet with us twice prior to the job being done and on the day the job was started. Tim came back out to make sure things were going along well and followed up promptly once the job was complete and came out and assessed a couple things that needed finalizing. Appreciated the attention to the detail and the timeliness of all the response. Also, was able to find someone to help us place gutter guards that we bought off market and wereally appreciated the professionalism of the team that came out and put the guards on for us would highly recommend read more

Where to even begin....Advocate Construction damaged our corner siding when they installed our roof November 18, 2023. After their Service tech failed multiple times to match our corner siding. 1st time: Painted and brought out a mismatched style to what we had. 2nd time, 1/28: Service tech did not have the right size - crew showed up but could not install. Feb 5th - service tech who bought wrong corner siding twice already, then gave us other options....mismatched size, mismatched style, OR we could have $500 to find the corner siding ourselves. He recommended that route as in his words "you may have better luck finding that perfect match." We did not accept any of those options. We had a 3rd party quote us for repairs. The project manager finally stepped in. We asked them to replace all of the corner pieces to the same size or style as long as they matched. Advocate agreed to that.  Finally on May 24th the Crew came out to replace all corner siding to match. We were so excited to be done with this company. Went to look at the corner pieces only to find that the crew USED drywall screws to rig the corner pieces on. The corner pieces were also crooked, leaving large gaps and the house open and exposed in other areas. Hair was stuck to one of the corner pieces. One coat of paint applied that was streaky with build-up along the edging. That is how it was replaced. We waited for someone to reach out since this fix did not go well. On 5/28 we reached out to ask if the crew gave feedback on how the repairs went. Production manager "they said it went smoothly and the pics looked good." We then sent our pictures and concerns. After looking at our pictures, manager agreed it was not good work. We were sent a check to have another company do the repairs since they could not get the job done. We became very concerned about other areas of house and roof. Roof inspection on 7/23 confirmed 2nd story has damages and exposed areas of siding. PLUS roof defects that will need to get repaired. Also worth mentioning, no one from the company actually stopped out to inspect the work. Sales rep stopped by almost 8 months after installation to "check in." Odd that his visit was directly after two of our neighbors decided to cancel their new roofs with this company. An absolute nightmare of a company to work with. read more

Beware of this company and their business processes. They came door to door back in June after a big hailstorm passed through where I live. Used my neighbor's name (who's like a grandfather to me) to get me to trust them. Told me on the first visit that it was a "free" roof inspection and they would help work with my insurance company to get my claim approved. Pulled out a tablet and had me sign and initial in one spot, again telling me this doesn't commit me to anything except for them to work with insurance. I find out weeks later that there's a "contract" on a portal which they never told me about that is 11 pages long and comes with it a 5K cancel penalty if I don't have them do the repair work. The terms of this agreement were never walked through with me. And it also said I had 3 days to cancel, but was never told that either. And they wouldn't give me details on costs, terms, or the types of materials they would put on my home in a valid document for me to review (as a good business should). It took me three times asking for it before they sent it to me, and then the cost didn't match what they originally told me via email! They are now pushing that I have to pay this cancellation fee. I've retained a lawyer and will not be doing work with a company that I can't trust to be upfront with me. I'm a single mom who owns her own house and knows nothing about roofing. I feel like they were banking on me being afraid of this cancel fee and not knowing what to ask for, so I would be forced into working with them. From some of the reviews I've seen they do decent roofing work, but they have very sketchy business processes in my opinion. I would not recommend working with them. I definitely learned my lesson and will not be working with any contractors who come to my door ever again! read more

Jason Joyner was my contractor and he worked diligently with my insurance company and the roofing team to make sure the job was done timely and right. The initial process with Advocate was too good to be true. Seemed like a caring company and they are there for your roofing needs. When the roof was installed they did not use a razor blade and ripped off our old roof in a hurry with no safety equipment. This caused some significant siding damage and does not give us comfort that water is not getting into our house. They just put heavy amounts of tar to cover up the areas that had large damage and cosmetically looks bad. We have talked to four advocate employees and they are ignoring our damage and they keep standing us up. Eventually after one month we got someone to stop by to tell us it is our problem. They damaged our siding but did our best. They said put on some roofing tins from Menards. Your problem. This company is a volume company that just wants to make money and does not care about their customers. read more

MY ROOF STILL LEAKS!!!Terrible, money grubbing, sales organization,( not construction company)whose product is not good at all! I don't see how they can call themselves a construction company.They advocate for themselves! They talk a good game ... we strive to make our customers happy ....we pride ourselves on quality work...we'll have our production team get on that. Don't believe it ! It took almost a year to get it done. I could write a book about this, from signing a contract on a iPad and never receiving a copy in a email with numerous texts to the guy trying to get it so I could read it. only got it after talking to 2 or 3 different people almost a week later after the 3 day right to cancel of course! I should've known, I guess I kind of did when I told him my roof was leaking and his response was that I should call the army corp of engineers they might come out and tarp it until they can get started! Seriously! Well they dropped off materials as soon as they knew I had the insurance check and they promised to get going set dates that came and went, no work was done some workers came out on unscheduled days and scheduled days but no work! Very long story with lots of shortcomings ... they wanted to keep money even though they were not replacing what was paid for by insurance... borderline insurance fraud! I had to demand they fix it with metal valley, (they didn't replace it) it was what was on the house, and insurance gave money for it. Also,standard in colder climates with extreme temperature. The shingle california weave, is what it's called ,they continued to try and tell me it was better, I'm sure since it was already on the house. They say, "They Did me a Favor" that it's much better!over weeks talking to multiple sales guys that would come out to the house wanting the money wondering why I'm not releasing the funds! Omg there is so much wrong cigarette butts and nails in my driveway, damaging screens, damaging electrical wires that go to my barn , I no longer have electricity out there now. Denting my brand new air conditioner. theres more! They do not do the work, or oversee it, or stand by it. All lies! They hire out of state workers to do the work, probably not permitted. They basically get the job door to door sales,after a storm (storm chasers) sell the job collect as much money as they can for the least amount of work. They have also over billed me, demanded all of the monies from my insurance , even money allocated for inside repairs, which they don't even do! They don't care they just keep talking their sales scripted response to everything. MY ROOF STILL LEAKS!!! they have all the money due them, and more .$16,000 plus, and the latest is they won't fix the roof that they just put on mind you, and threaten a lien on my house, even though I've paid them more than the amount the insurance gave for the work they provided...they just over inflated the invoice once I showed them that some of the money was for interior work and a metal roof they were not entitled to it. I said if they can't do it for the amount the insurance paid I will get someone else.They agreed until the end. then they invoice for all of the money even money allocated for other work Which we already agreed they were not performing that work! What scam! MY ROOF STILL LEAKS!! Now I have to get a lawyer! OH YEAH, MY NEIGHBOR USED THEM ALSO HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE! So much more to it, will get pics How can you be a roofer and fix a leaking roof, but you don't fix it. You demand payment,or will put a lien on my hous. you replaced my roof it's leaking same area as before but you ignore me and say there isn't evidence when I sent a video of evidence. You send a guy out not when it's raining but almost two weeks after with no rain. The person you send out is only 3 months into the job but like most of the employees really has no business with roof construction.I have video of a dry towel that I put on my support beam and it comes back wet! Had our roof replaced (hail damage) by Advocate Construction of Brookfield WI. We had no issues with them. The work was approved by our insurance company. Advocate's salesman, Stephen, did a great job explaining everything. The crew showed up when promised, did good work and cleaned up everything when they finished. I was impressed with Stephen's follow-up. He made sure everything was done correctly and to our satisfaction. I have to confess, I did have 2nd thoughts after reading some of the negative reviews and wondered if this might be a franchise type of business, since Milwaukee's BBB had mostly positive reviews for this company, but Chicago had mainly negative reviews. Due to conflicting reviews, and this being a job that you don't want to have problems with, i.e., leaking roof or problems around the skylights., I asked for a list of addresses of their recent customers in my area. I knocked on doors or left notes to learn how their experiences had been. Everyone who I talked to or got back to me seemed pretty happy with their experience. All I can say is, we were satisfied with Advocate Construction, the Brookfield, WI office. Every person from the office that we spoke with was professional, returned calls promptly, & did what they said they'd do. We really have no complaints, and our new roof is great. read more

Horrible, horrible company! They replaced my roof after hail damage in 2020. They damaged my gutters and downspouts, and broke my shrubbery. They didn't let me know, I came home to find the damage. That was in March! It is August and these repairs are still not done. I have been repeatedly reaching out to them for months. Brad didn't even return my requests for weeks until I called the company's general number. I have a 4 foot shrub that was broken off. To replace it Brad tried to hand me a little 1 foot plant in a pot. Clearly he didn't understand that the old one has to be dug out first or that auch larger shrub needs to be planted. He seems to think that I'm going to do the work.I do a tremendous amount of yard work and don't have the time to fix their mistakes. They finally ordered new gutters a couple weeks ago but they were the wrong size and wrong color! How does a roofing company not know how to measure and match gutters? And after all this time and hassle, this week they threatened to send me to collections if I didn't pay the remainder of bill!!! The work isn't done yet! They are trying to hurry now as their rule is that bill has to be paid within 6 months. I take a little responsibility as I travel for work but I just can't let them work on my house when I'm not there. Don't use this company!!! read more
