The saleswoman that helped me wasn't the owner, but she was wonderful and friendly and patient with my beginner knitter questions. I didn't take any knitting with me from DFW so I was going bananas by this time, so I bought 4 balls of Noro wool yarn, 4.3 oz of local merino wool, and my first pair of bamboo needles. Very fair prices and an outstanding establishment in a charming home. I will definitely make a point to visit every time I'm on the island. There's some cashmere, angora, and more wool that I have to purchase. :-)

According to the owner the barn, where the shop is located, was part of a property given to a family by the British in the 1800s and that same family owned it up until the 1990s! This location is not only pack with fabulous fiber but all the rustic charm you would expect from such a space. Ample private parking lot allowed us to park our truck camper with no problem. However, the service was nonexistent. I walked in and three ladies were sitting there knitting. No one even stopped to say hello, welcome - nothing. About 5 minutes into my roam around the store, one of the ladies started to talk about the lack of traffic today. She said that she had plenty of time to knit because they had no customers today. In my mind, I thought, well, she should really address me if no other customers had been in that day. Then one of the three ladies left and the employee started reviewing Facebook and sharing with the other woman everything that was going on at the local senior center. I was in the store for at least 15 minutes and not a single acknowledgement. I had in mind several things to buy but decided to take my business elsewhere given the lack of interest in my presence. I've never seen one before in person. They let you pet the Alpaca, also be mindful to not aggravate them or get super close or they will spit . They're still getting settled, so don't expect a huge variety, but they already have a well-chosen selection of fibers for a wide range of projects. Classes and workshops are being scheduled--learn to knit, kids' knitting. We were visiting from out of state and happened to see the sign for The Wool Patch as we were…read moredriving by, so of course we had to stop! It happened to be one of the days they are normally closed, which we did not know, but the owner was outside in her garden and she was happy to come open up for us and let us browse her yarn selection. My mother and I both found something we couldn't live without (of course!) and the owner didn't mind my kids, who I plopped down by the door with some video games to keep them entertained. The best part was that her prices were much better than the ones around where we live and she said that we can do long distance orders, which is great since we both found some yarn that would be perfect for our next projects but weren't sure how much we would need yet. And before we left someone local who had called in for help with a project happened by, so it was nice to not feel like we had caused her to open up shop only for us. :)
