Great tourist location. These are the cutest animals and they have areas with just adults and also an area with moms and babies. No charge and just open to Allie you to wander around and look. They are very docile and you can get up close. They sit just behind the fence. In the gift shop they have everything you could want alpaca. Gloves scarfs hats sweaters socks toys and a bunch of ribbons and banners for the comparative successes. The person being the counter was very helpful and talkative. She made the experience better. It is pricey but I think that's the norm for alpaca stuff in general.
If you're gonna do it, go full alpaca with a walking tour, a deep dive in how to raise your own alpacas, and of course, a behind-the-fence snuggle sesh with the cutesy-wutesy widdle babies. THEY'RE SO FRIGGIN SOFT. Please don't go in comparing this lovely respite to, say, an OstrichLand in Solvang, CA (what? You've never heard of OstrichLand?! Gohrrrrrl...), as it's largely a spectator attraction with a pricey gift shop attached. The alpacas comfort and safety is paramount, so they will take advantage of the ample space away from the reaching paws of these weird bipedal adolescent mammals calling to them and snapping their digits. But then there are always a few who love fuzzy butt scatches, so yes ye of the tactilely persuaded ilk, you will get to pet an alpaca. Otherwise, you can learn a lot, put in your suggestion for the newborns' names, and know you're donating your admission fee to a really sweet space. But seriously, be a full-on Wool Don and reserve the behind-the-scenes tour. You'll never feel more squeeeee.
This place is a cool. I've never been to an alpaca farm so this was adorable to me. I was worried of being spat on or bitten but I'm happy to report that I came out dry and in one piece. From the parking to the actual farm there's a lot of grass and gravel to walk on so don't wear heels or wedges. The parking was free and the entrance was $8 per person. We had a 2yo in the group and they let him in for free. There's not much to do here but pet the alpaca in their little area and maybe buy some cool/ cute items made with alpaca fur. I don't know who thought of this but there was an out of the box thinker.... They have an area to do Yoga with the Alpacas roaming freely around you!!! I mean, like... that looked awesome. There were at least 20 people doing yoga with one instructor and I don't know how many alpacas. I will say this, it was in the sun so take lots of water. I did see rolled up yoga mats, I don't know if they were for purchase but I imagine so. If you're not going to do yoga I'd say that this place is good for like 15 mins. I enjoyed it though. It was a unique experience. Oh and something I found interesting, the alpacas didn't stink. I pet their cute hairy heads and was surprised to find that my hand didn't reek of dirty farm animal. So this was an added bonus for me .
Even though I have an unusual predilection for all camelid mammals, Island Alpaca is a place I think everyone would enjoy. We stopped by during a visit to MV and managed to squeeze in about an hour before closing time. There are multiple areas to observe them being themselves. They eat hay right next to the fence so there are ample opportunities to get up close and personal and PET them which I highly recommend because they are SO FURRY. They're adorable. The staff is also very nice. They offered us the ability to stand in the barn and watch them run by as they were taken into their "nighttime" section of the farm at closing time. I believe they have special events like alpaca yoga but this was not an option the week of our visit/week of easter. They also sell them. If only my car was big enough to fit a few of them in there I might have taken some home.

The $10 admission fee was worth it since it supports the alpacas and the programs they offer All the signage along the walk it was entertaining and educational. We pet a few males, but they were kind of busy eating. Then seeing the females and babies was the best! Adorable babies in all colors. The little shop had beautiful items. Worth checking out
We had such a fun time at Island Alpaca. It was such a wholesome experience and would recommend it to people of all ages. The alpaca were just so cute and precious. With any animal, it's important to use caution and be observant of their behaviors. These alpaca were just so gentle and soft. They made the cutest little noises. The babies were just so precious as well. The gift shop has lots of items made with the fur. They were beautiful and pricey but you see where the fur comes from. I bought a variety of trinkets including a little alpaca magnet, which I fell in love with. I love experiences like this and had a great time. The admission is close to nothing and it was well worth the trip.
If you are on Martha's Vineyard this is a must place to visit! It's sure to bring the kid out in you! We arrived as soon as they opened and did the self guided tour, which is really two pens of alpaca's one for the males and the other for the females and babies. Depending how long you want to watch them this really only takes about 30 minutes, One of the workers was in the female pen she was so friendly and very informative of the animals so we were there a little longer talking with her. We happen to catch a couple alpacas out of their pens and were able to get a picture with them! That definitely made my day. They are very calm animals, and so many different colors. The gift shop has so many beautiful things to choose from a lot from which local islanders make. All the staff here was extremely nice and very informative.

I can't imagine you will spend more than 30 minutes here unless you get stuck at the gift shop. The gift shop has a lot of llama items. If you want alpacas, you need to look for them. They have a lot items made from alpaca fur and clothing items.
OMG, I felt like a very happy child visiting "Island Alpaca"!!! The alpacas are so sweet and docile. I know I sound silly, but they are like live stuffed animals. Their faces look almost cartoon like. They have large soulful eyes, big eyelashes and a smile that will melt your heart. The alpacas range in shades from Light Blonde to Dark Brown. The alpacas look like they're very well cared for. They are very well groomed and always have plenty to eat. Sounds like a great life! During our recent visit, we saw a very young alpaca healing from a femur replacement. You could see where the fur was shaved. This little guy was really getting around very well. Please check out his pic! There is an adorable gift shop with many stuffed alpacas, alpaca yarn, alpaca wearable goods and other items. By the way, I saw alpaca fertilizer for sale next to the gift shop! LOL.... Island Alpaca is a must stop when visiting Martha's Vineyard!!! It's only a $5.00 entry fee! I definitely would make a return visit!
This was a fun stop on our tour of Martha's Vineyard. We got to see and pet the alpacas on the farm. They were so cute with their haircuts, reminds me kinda like the 80s music stars. There is also a shop inside that you can purchase stuff made from alpaca wool. This place is definitely a fun, unique surprise away from the outdoor beach, history and shopping activities of the island.
10/10 would highly recommend. From getting more information with Izzy via Instagram (i.e. how to reserve a spot online for walking alpaca to where to park when I arrive) to walking the alpacas with Taylor (we learned so much about alpacas; she's very knowledgeable!). The entire experience was easy and so much fun/memorable. I even left with a couple of souvenirs that I bought with Lexie at the gift shop. And I got tons of photos! I recommend going off season. My boyfriend and I had the entire farm to ourselves and it was awesome!
My boyfriend and I took the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard and our first stop was Island Alpaca. There was only a $5 admission fee per person. We spent around half an hour observing and petting the adorable alpacas. (Who doesn't love alpacas?!) They were soft, gentle, and beautiful. There was also a gift shop on the farm, but we spent most of our time outside with the alpacas. Definitely a great place to visit for both adults and kids!
A must if you're visiting MV! The Alpacas are just fun to watch, both cute and strange looking at the same time All different shapes and sizes! The staff are all super friendly and informative, they know their stuff. The whole experience is a fun one, very unique, and the gift shop is filled with cool Alpaca souvenirs. I got myself an Alpaca shirt and a cute little Alpaca pin! A fun, low-key activity for all the family!

This farm was absolutely amazing and unique! The alpacas are friendly and allow you to pet them, staff was friendly, and the gift shop is riddled with things made from the alpaca fur from the farm. Prices are high but rightfully so read more
This is such a unique experience! First time on the vineyard and I got a bunch of recommendations to go here ! It is a quick stop but so worth it ! I was greeted by these beautiful Alpaca. I've never seen one before in person. They let you pet the Alpaca, also be mindful to not aggravate them or get super close or they will spit . There are signs everywhere to give you a warning . lol thankfully no spitting happened when I was present . There where was a baby alpaca , they are so cute almost wanted to take one home . They have a cute gift shop where do you can get a bunch of goodies made out of Alpaca fur . The girls working there where super informative and provided very insightful information about the Alpacas . read more

I had never been to Island Alpaca, several of my friends wanted to go and I thought that was a great idea. I really had not had any close interaction with alpacas. I got to get really close! I found them to be amazingly sweet. I could not get over their cute faces. I can't wait to go back again. It's a beautiful spot. The store is amazing. I bought a pair of socks, a hat, and a little alpaca ornament while I was there. I love the socks and hat so much, so soft and warm, I had to order more socks and some gloves too! I love everything that I have received. And when I ordered online, my order came very quickly! Thank you Barbara and to your wonderful associates! read more
Please stop in and see the alpacas! They are so soft and wonderful. They are treated like royalty! The farm is great! Everyone working there is kind, knowledgable and want you to really know what they do there. There is also a gift shop with a wide variety of items derived from alpacas...soap, hats, gloves, wool...all kinds of things! I also love that a lot are knitted on the Island. If you have a bit of time and all ages in your car, stop by Island Alpaca. My car ranged in age from 14-87. We all had a great time and couldn't stop talking about it. read more

Alpacas are so friendly! We trekked over here to pet some and it was a fun trip. Everyone there was knowledgable and friendly. There was a baby alpaca and it was running around the whole time. I petted the older ones and their fur was really soft, especially on their heads. I didn't get spit on but watch out. The store is cute but prices are INSANE. Also, it's 5 bucks to get in per person. I thought that they would have more to see/do so if you are planning a trip for the day it won't take more than 45 min prob. Even that's a stretch.. read more
we loved our experience at the farm. The people working there were very friendly and knowledgeable. We now know a lot more about alpacas than we did before. More importantly, the floofs (alpacas) were soo cute. I loved petting them, although they are really shy. The are so calming. read more
Do NOT miss this sweet "little" farm!!! The staff are friendly and informative and the alpacas are lovely, in fact you will be trying to figure out how to add a small herd to your yard before you leave. There is a lot to learn here and if you come in late summer there will be adorable baby alpacas to ogle. The shop is full of wonderful alpaca related products, so many it is difficult to keep a budget. Alpaca baby fur is so soft and warm, you cannot go wrong with a hat, scarf, slippers or sweater. Not to mention the adorable animals made of alpaca fur, or even an alpaca stuffed animal for the little one. Do not miss Island Alpaca, it is an inexpensive (they request donations) way to spend the day and learn something while you are at it. read more
Visiting Island Alpaca was on my Martha's Vineyard bucket list for the longest time so on my first visit I knew I couldn't miss it. We arrived during their last hour and were welcomed to walk around and pet the boys which come up first. The young lady at the front also shared that the females were in the back and I was in for a treat. They had a baby alpaca that was just two weeks old...I practically skipped down the road. I said hi to the boys first; each one with their own name tag. Some were friendly and curious while others watched from a distance. I never realized alpacas made so many little sounds - all of which were adorable. I made my way around the back and came upon another group of alpacas. I saw some people huddled around one area and realized I was coming upon the baby of the pack (is this what you call an alpaca group - someone enlighten me). A little mini aplaca (the baby) stood no more than a few feet tall and I joyously watched her chew on her moms ear and hair. I hope everyone gets a chance to see a baby alpaca on their visit here but lucky for us they are all adorable baby or not! read more

This review is on the Alpaca-gram we had for my best friend's 60th birthday. It was AWESOME!!!! The alpacas arrived with a personalized sign, a birthday hat and a gift (which I selected). The alpacas were gorgeous and very friendly. The employee Taylor was AMAZING. She was kind and patient. It was evident that she has a wonderful relationship with Leonardo and Hotshot. Taylor answered all our questions and was very kind and loving to my two children. We have visited the Island Alpaca farm for many years, but this was the first time we did the alpaca-gram. It was definitely worth it. We all enjoyed it very much. Thank you, Taylor (and Leonardo and Hotshot), for making the birthday celebration extra special. read more

The baby alpacas are sooooo cute! We biked here from Vineyard Haven (ample bike parking) and proceeded to die from the cuteness of these alpacas. Also, as a knitter, it was very cool to see hand spun yarn. It was kind of expensive, so I got some other Island Alpaca branded yarn, but they had really cool yarn! A really fun thing to do on the island. read more
Totally worth the $5 visit. During the summer the 2 pm walk is actually at 9:30 am. Call in advance to reserve your walk. We drove down to look at the planes at Katama then came back at 10 am when the farm opened for regular visitors if you didn't book the early 9:30 am walk. Everyone is so nice & helpful. Read all the signs along the fence. Great for kids & you could be in and out in 30 min to an hour. After that, go check out the 2 seater planes. There is bike & car parking. read more

We had such a great time here! My husband and I walked an Alpaca and it was so much fun:) the one on one snuggles were amazing and Tayla was very sweet and informative! The gift shop is a MUST! The handmade genuine Alpaca items are perfect. I am so happy with my purchases. I highly recommend this place for everyone. If you have kids or not! The alpacas are so sweet and everyone is friendly. The only thing I would recommend is that they update their website, its not very user friendly, purchasing our tickets online was a little confusing. read more

I had such a good time, definitely a must visit on your trip to the Vineyard. The alpacas were all so soft and friendly and the workers are kind too. Make sure you call the company before you visit if you want a more up and close experience. read more
I really enjoyed myself at Island Alpaca! I can't wait to come back with my kids. There is a very modest $5 entry fee which goes towards the upkeep of the farm and the animals. The staff are very accommodating and knowledgeable about the 80 Alpacas. I was blown away at the staff member's memory and knowledge about all of the animals (there's one rescue Llama amongst the group). She was very thorough, enthusiastic and patient with answering any and everyone's questions. This was just her second summer working with the Alpacas. The Alpacas are very well maintained and one of them is an 8 time award winning Alpaca. All of her ribbons are displayed just before reaching the gift shop. The gift shop is very modest in size and sells a variety of items made from the Alpaca shearing. There is no time limit while visiting Island Alpaca and you can go at your own pace. read more

My 4 year old daughter loved this place and we sat in front of the alpaca for over an hour!!!! The staff are so nice and knowledgeable. I purchased hats and gloves (even though it was August) and felt the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality. For the people complaining about the $5.00 price per person, you should be ashamed of yourself. The sign clearly states that the admission price takes care of taking care of the farm. read more
We decided to do something a little different and alpacas were on the menu. When you pull up you pay $5, which will be taken off your purchase in the gift shop. You can read many facts about the fuzzy creatures on your walk to the barn. Inside the barn there are very friendly workers who can answer any of you questions. You are also able to pet the animals. The gift shop offers free tea, coffee and lemonade to enjoy while you watch the animals Have fun petting what feels like a walking carpet. read more
