I took my he Wekiva River Tour today. First, the river was pristine. Just gorgeous nature the entire route. Bill was our guide and it was apparent that this is more than a job to him. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the River. We saw multiple wildlife species (cranes, a gator, turtles) including multiple manatees! The manatees would surface right by your kayak to get air. Bill and the Adventures in FL team made sure we were good the whole trip. This included making sure we had water and making sure we felt safe on the River. After the trip they even provided a nice cool towel to cool off with and a delicious snack. It was perfect!! Scheduled a kayaking tour for a family of 6 with Greg who was extremely responsive and accommodating for our specific needs as my wife utilizes a wheelchair. He was great in getting everything scheduled and answered all our questions and concerns. The actual trip we did with Astrid who was absolutely fantastic! 4 out of group of 6 had never been on a kayak before and she was patient with them while they navigated their way through the Wekiva River. She was able to take some fantastic pictures and provides them to you via Google Drive. We saw gators, turtles, plenty of birds, and we were fortunate enough to see a mama Manatee and her baby! We headed into this adventure dry...we survived a thunder storm, lightning, torrential rain and lots and lots of laughs. We wouldn't have changed a thing. We did the little Wekiwa Springs tour with a nine-year-old and a 13-year-old and my in-laws. It was just long enough where everyone survived and did not complain about being too tired or hungry. If you are a young family (with a 13 year old who literally KNOWS EVERYTHING), then this is the trip for you. Ask for Gina....she's my spirit animal. This was such an amazing experience! I was in Orlando for a conference and wanted to experience a real Florida adventure and I was not disappointed! My tour guide Bill was so nice and informative, he even gave me recommendations for other attractions in the area and places to eat while I waited for our tour to start. I am not an experienced kayaker by any means, but that was not a problem at all. I have to say, all of the other people in my group cancelled same-day so I ended up being the only person on the tour. Most companies would have cancelled or pushed me back to the later time but the earlier slot worked better for my schedule, so Bill took me out for a private tour! We saw fish jumping out of the water, blue heron, horseshoe crabs, and of course the glowing plankton. It really was an unforgettable experience and I will have to come back with my family soon! This was the first kayak tour for my tow teenaged granddaughters. And the first for my 7 year old grandson, a passenger in my kayak. We all had a great time. The alligator count rose to 28 on our tour, including one who escorted us down the river for about a mile. Greg went with the flow and when the sun did not come out and the manatees were still snoozing, he took us on the boardwalk to view the manatees in the state park. If you are looking to take a break from Disney or Universal and find out what central Florida is really like, then this is the place! Greg, the owner, was very accommodating and provided excellent kayaking equipment. Our tour guide, Jeff, is a marine biologist graduate and was very passionate about the wildlife on the river. He told us interesting facts and histories behind every tree, insect, fish and reptile we encountered. Be ready to see anything, from the giant gar fish splashing beside your kayak to the wild alligator sunbathing on the bank! The bioluminescence paddle is an amazing experience. I went with a couple of friends who were new to kayaking, but it was no problem, as the Adventures in Florida team took the time to explain everything to them. This is a 2.5 hour tour, where you are kayaking the Banana River, which is shared with power boats. However, we lucked out with a quiet night on the water. We checked in when we arrived, and were given glowsticks to wear when we are on the water. There is a tour guide who leads the group, and another who hangs back to keep count of everyone, or to keep count of the glowsticks in the dark. One party in our tour had a double kayak, and another couple was in a canoe, so if you want something other than a single kayak, let them know when you book. Once we were in our life vests and claimed our kayaks and paddles, we were good to go. It was a little rocky at first, as it has been a little bit since I had kayaked, but once I got paddling, it was smooth sailing. The guide took us out through the mangroves, where we could experience the light show of the bioluminescence. Fish were jumping all around us, and everytime the paddle hit the water, glowing streaks moved around. In the dark out away from the city lights you can actually see the stars, so between the starry night and the glowing water, it was quite an experience. There were other groups on the water, and at one point I wasn't sure which group was mine. I got slightly panicked, as the tour guides have a red light on their boats, and all of a sudden there were 3 red lights in front of me! Luckily, I chose right, and followed the correct red light. I would imagine we were all going to the same place eventually, so I was never in any kind of danger or anything, but when it's that dark, you are just depending on a glow stick and hoping the voice from that boat is your guide. Looking at their website, I cannot wait to see what other tours I can check out with Adventures in Florida. They offer many different outings, from day trips to multi-day excursions, all of which look like a great time. read more

We went on a bioluminescence kayak tour with Greg from Adventures in Florida last weekend. The tour left from Kelly Park in Merritt Island. We arrived late but the group hadn't left yet and we were able to catch up quickly. To best view the bioluminescence you want to go on a dark night. We were lucky to have a lot of cloud cover so there was almost no moonlight. The light pollution from the city makes it harder to see but when you are in darker areas you will see the bioluminescence very clearly. Basically it looks like a light neon blue. But it is so much harder to describe than that. The water glows when it is is disrupted, so the movement of your paddles or little fish darting through the water will leave trails of blueish light. Our whole trip was about two hours. We paddled about a mile before we turned around. Some in our group were more experienced and much faster and had to be called back with an air horn, but most of us stayed fairly close together. We stayed mostly in the shallow areas near the banks. That was where we could see a lot of action from fish. While we were on the Indian River we came very close to a manatee. We also saw a group of dolphins chasing mullet. This was an amazing experience. Our guides told us that the bioluminescence is extremely hard to photograph. None of our attempts with an iPhone turned out at all. In hindsight I should have just left my phone in the car. We saw someone with a GoPro, that might be fun to bring if you have one. When the group returned to the park mosquitoes descended on us like a blanket. No kidding. We had covered ourselves in bug spray before we left but I'm assuming some of it must have come off from getting wet. I started spraying again as soon as we got on land so I avoided any bites, but it was close. I would recommend carrying your bug spray in the kayak and reapplying before you get back to the park. Greg also mentioned that you can time the tour to coincide with a nighttime rocket launch from the space center. That would be a really cool experience. I loved this trip and I already want to do it again. The bioluminescence is one of the most beautiful things you will see in Florida. read more

Friends and I did the bio-luminescent tour and it was spectacular!! In planning and making reservations, Greg was extremely helpful, flexible, and responsive, as we added friends and made adjustments to our kayak numbers. The location was easy to find (even in the dark) and our guide Bill was accessible and responsive in coordinating our exact parking spot. Bill is an excellent guide and took time share information about all the spots nearby (NASA and Merritt Island) and educated us about the aquatic and wildlife of the area. The bio-luminescence did not disappoint....with every stroke of the water and dart of a fish it was like watching fireworks through the water...absolutely beautiful!
