Staff were organized, friendly, and fast! We went straight out across the street and were kayaking within 10min of checking in! Advice for a simple trip, bring flip flops/water shoes, a change of clothes (at least pants), and a towel. They have a restroom but more importantly they have dressing rooms and complimentary HEATED towels! Only problem is there really isn't a "secure" place to store your stuff, but it is pretty safe behind their counter! Great adventure!! read more

We rented a two row bike to get some excercise and ride around Cannery row. It was a nice cruise starting from Lover's point beach. The girls working here were friendly and helpful. We took a few breaks to just take in the views. Of all the times I visited Monterey, I'm glad we did this with our kids this go around. There's a basket in the front with a seatbelt for the younger kids. It was an enjoyable activity for our whole family and the weather was beautiful. We got to see the seals the Monterey bay Aquarium are trying so hard to keep safe. We rotated so all of us got to ride in the back and enjoyed the cruise. I recommend this activity if you have other adults, older kids (teens and up) or if your little ones can fit in the basket. Not the in between ages, there aren't any seatbelts or safety restraints. If you are in the area keep this activity in mind. It's cost friendly and the views are beautiful. read more

We LOVE Adventures By the Sea!! Brought a group of 8 friends - we piled into 4 double kayaks, and our guide Ann took us out in the most beautiful conditions. She made sure we were safe and comfortable. She also gave us some marine biology lessons as well as the history of Cannery Row. We saw SO much sea life (including a pod of dolphins) and got a good workout paddling back in (against the wind). We rented a surrey during our little visit to Monterey to ride around with our 5 year old and it was such a fun way to enjoy the coast! The pedaling was not too hard and there's only one working steering wheel so I let my husband take the wheel. Only downside is that unless your child is much smaller, they can't sit in the front basket that has a seatbelt. Mine is small and younger enough that I would prefer a more secure seat but almost too big for that front basket thingy. Otherwise it was fun for the whole family! read more

What a fabulous morning we had in our kayaks on the bay! Adventures By the Sea made it all easy and fun. They are a well oiled machine, set up for out-of-town visitors, everyone in a good mood, supportive in every way so that you have a good experience. We spent two hours on the bay, which felt just right, and had a wonderful time with the sea life and each other. We mostly reveled in the otters but enjoyed bird life, sea lions, and one beautiful seal. Two of us were in a tandem and two others in a single. I recommend the tandem because you have someone right there to share all your "ooohs" and "ahhhs" with! I might also note that I have a bit of anxiety around boats and water, but never for a moment felt unsafe. It was wondrous. read more

We did a guided Kayak Tour through Adventures by the sea. It was just two of us in our party and we chose to do a group guided tour. By pure luck, all of the other grii group canceled so it effectively became a private tour. Our Tour guide Jan was super knowledgeable, friendly, and did a great job keeping a good pace for us, especially considering 1 of us had never kayaked. Our Tour was exactly at the 2 hour point, great views and weather, we saw tons of wildlife and worked a big appetite for dinner. The kids had just woken up for their nap and this place was nearing closing time so I wanted to call to check if we'd still be able to rent a surrey. The guy over the phone said yes, if we were already local and we left super quickly to catch them before closing. We arrived around 15 mins or so later and they were able to rent out the surrey and the experience was just so amazing. The kids absolutely loved it and it was great way to see all the beautiful sites along the coast. We were so glad we were able to do this for the first time while in Carmel. Rented bikes and kayaks on three separate occasions from them (right at Lovers Point beach in Pacific Grove, CA) for our groups of different sizes. Always a smile. So friendly. They didn't hesitate to give us tips on where to bike and kayak, where to sea the wild life and so on. They also give us a run down of the water that day (which part can be wavy or windy and so on). Terrible customer service from the young white boys. We booked a 2 hour electric bike rental for our party of 5. We rode along the 17-mile drive and on the way back one of our bikes completely lost power. We can't blame Adventures By The Sea for this issue, but we CAN blame them for their reaction. After arriving a few minutes late, we described our situation to the one with long hair, who asked dismissively if we tried turning it back on. We aren't stupid, yes we did. I've been kayaking all my life. I've mostly done lake and river kayaks, but I have done a couple of ocean tours. My confidence level alone on open water is not the greatest, so I booked a two-hour private kayak tour with Adventures By The Sea. This was one of the best experiences of my life. I will always remember it. My tour guide was named Anne, and she was phenomenal. Our personalities matched very well. She knew how to kayak, she knew the water, and she knew the area. She knew how to find wildlife such as otters, which I really wanted to see up close. And I did. There were so many otters. So many sea lions. Jellyfish. Crabs. It was amazing to be in their natural habitat and observe them. Anne crafted the tour to what I really wanted to do. I was dying to go out to open waters, so together we paddled out to the red buoy marking 1 mile out at 100 feet deep. The weather was cool, the water was only slightly choppy here and there, and it was exhilarating and calming and exciting and peaceful all at the same time. AMAZING EXPERIENCE !!!!!! Highly recommend doing the tandem kayak with a partner/buddy to see the wildlife. My husband and I decided on a whim to rent a kayak and explore the bay (great rec from our best friends). Sydney was incredible! Super sweet, patient, and very kind. Loved her easygoing + sunny demeanor, it really started off our adventure on the right foot and made us feel confident about embarking out on the water. Neither of us expected to see that much wildlife, but when I tell you our jaws continued to D R O P throughout the entire kayaking trip is no exaggeration. We saw so many otters and sea lions, I couldn't believe my eyes. I genuinely expected to see only 1 or 2 (and would have been extremely content) but we easily saw at least 30???? It was 100% the highlight of our trip. The rental includes waterproof clothing and a dry-bag which is great because we definitely didn't come prepared. Renting the tandem kayak costs $70, but it's yours for the whole day/however long you want to be out on the water. We only did about two hours because we were exhausted from Point Lobos, but felt like we had gotten our money's worth. I'd highly recommend checking out this lovely rental place -- you won't be disappointed. Thank you Sydney and Adventures By The Sea! We rented some bikes from here to ride around the trail. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. Perhaps next time, we will get some kayaks. I have done the surreys before, I will just say they are more work than you expect and less fun especially after the first 20 minutes. The individual bikes are better IMHO. read more

I stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa, and part of being a guest here we could rent bikes for free. My friends immediately took advantage of this opportunity to ride down to Lover's point. Adventures by the Sea immediately accommodated us, provided us with helmets and bikes that fit each person. We had such a great time! The next morning, we wanted to go Kayaking to check out the bay and the seals. They described the process, and what to wear, wet suit top rentals, and guides available to help, etc. Morning is the best time to go compared to the afternoon. We were in town visiting family and the group decided to rent two four-person bikes for a tour. The staff member working was very rude. When we asked about their sanitation protocol she said 'we wouldn't be open, would we?' I wanted to leave right then but others had their hearts set on the tour. The bikes were in awful condition. They were dirty and covered in spiders that were literally dropping on us during the ride. The bike seats were dirty and clearly little is maintained. We were barely into our ride when we noticed we had two flat tires. We returned them and gave up. Of course we got nothing back and no apology for charging $160 for rickety equipment and awful customer service. If you're looking for things to do on Cannery Row, this is not one of them! This was definitely the worst part of our entire visit to gorgeous Monterey. read more

I'd gone whale watching the day before and while we saw a variety of whales and dolphins this was hands down the best experience. For most of the 2.5 hours we did very light paddling but the wind picked up as we were returning to the beach so the final 5-10 minutes required moderate effort. Visited Monterey for our 24th wedding Anniv. We decided to kayak at the Bay. Husband made reservation for 2pm the day before and was told to check in around 1pm. On the day, we were told we cannot go because they saw "white caps" on the waves. White caps is pretty for pictures but not when you are kayaking on open sea. That means it's high wind. They offered refund or carry over the reservation to the next day. We took the latter option. The next day.... We were suited with waterproof clothing. I love how they care enough to suggest for my husband to take off his vest. He said the waterproof vest is thick so he maybe overheated during pedaling. I thought that's really thoughtful of him. Anyway, nothing like kayaking with your "boyfriend" of 24 years! We definitely up our communication skills that day. We like to think that we could read each other's mind, finished each other sentences. But today, open sea kayaking teaches us we cannot stop being kind to each others. We'd been talking about doing some kayaking in the Monterey Bay for a long time, but it wasn't until some friends of ours did it a couple weeks ago that we finally decided to make it happen. We had to wait until the last minute to book it because I had a pending Covid-19 test (potential workplace exposure). I called them this morning to find out about availability for one of their tours, and to our delight there was space available for one of their afternoon outings. We arrived about 20 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure and had a leisurely check-in. There were several employees there to get us situated with flotation vests and paddles and to store away the stuff that we didn't need on the boats. We met our guide, Kip, and then walked across the street to where the kayaks were waiting on the beach. Our group was small - just the four of us plus one other gentleman and the guide - so this made for a nice cozy trip. We opted for the guided tour because we weren't familiar with the water conditions and figured that it would be better to follow someone along for this first time, even though we all had a fair amount of kayaking experience in past. As it would turn out, it was money well spent because we ended up covering a much larger area than we probably would have done if we were on our own. Kip was quite knowledgable about the Monterey Bay, including its geological, natural, and commerical history. He showed us how just how close we could come to some of the wildlife while making sure that we weren't disturbing them or putting ourselves at risk. He also guided us carefully around some rafts of lounging sea otters so that we didn't spook them. The highlight of the trip was a friendly harbor seal that followed us along for about 30 minutes, popping his head out right next to us and swimming under and around our boats. We named him Simon. Anyways, we had a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours in the water on a gloriously beautiful summer afternoon. This is certainly an outing for any skill level, and even if you've got advanced paddling skills it's still a good time. read more

My husband and 6 year old daughter wanted so badly to try kayaking in Monterey for the first time. We have always driven by or walked by this place and we finally decided to inquire within. Tyler was fantastic, chatty, personable, and super cool. He walked over to the marina with us and got my husband and daughter some waterproof clothes and gave a short tutorial on what to do, took them down to the water and got them in safely. I walked the path surrounding the marina to take pictures and they had such a fantastic time. It was a great 2 hours spent with tons of seals and otters and other sea life to explore and enjoy. Me and my partner chose the ocean tandem kayak. For however long we wanted it cost $70 which seemed like a pretty good price. For this we were provided with the kayak and oar of course, but also a dry bag, a dry long sleeve shirt, and dry pants that go over your regular clothes. This was a relief because we did not bring the most waterproof clothes, but the provided clothes protected all wetness from our clothes underneath. We were helped by two very helpful employees, one of them a young guy who gave us great tips for our ride. It was my first time kayaking in the ocean, and my partner's first time kayaking in general, but overall it was pretty easy. Some opposite currents combined with the dense kelp forest in some parts made for a slightly challenging stretch, but nothing too crazy. There were many chances to view sea otters, and we also saw several sea lions out on the water. By the way, wearing shoes is fine on the kayak without them getting wet, but getting off the kayak is the end is the most likely time they will get wet (this happened to me, but my partner was able to keep her shoes/feet dry). Overall, this was a great experience at a great price, and we will try the bike rental next. read more
