We took a 1.5 hour trip in October and were able to get up close to otters, seals, and dolphins. The employee managing our trip was very kind and attentive, and we got complimentary drinks and blankets. Shaded and open seating options!

Kiwi is an amazing person. Our 3 yr old daughter got sick on the boat and Kiwi was there to help as if she was family. I can't say enough kind things about her. We saw thousands of sea lions and MANY whale sightings. I would pay double what we paid for our private whale sighting. P.S. -kiwi ask for a raise or a commissioned fee!

Sometimes, it's fun to pretend to be rich. It was one of those hot days, and I wanted to sail! Unfortunately, I don't have a boat. Fortunately, I went online and found Sail Monterey, which offers affordable Catamaran Cruises. I thought it would be a perfect girl time with my daughter! The boat was beautiful! We were the first ones to check in, so we were the first ones on the boat. Whew! These three ladies cut in front of us in line. I was so relieved when the captain called us first! And it turned out the ladies were last. However, the boat was nice and spacious. Only eleven people signed up at 3:00. Free drinks and snacks were a plus! Beer, wine, juice, and water were available. I enjoyed my Italian White Wine, and my daughter enjoyed her Fizzy Grapefruit Juice. For one hour and fifteen minutes, the captain took us far into the ocean. I'm not sure if it was north or south, but it was awesome feeling the breeze on my face. We saw porpoises, whales, and sea lions. I was bummed I couldn't get a picture of the purposes and whales. They were so fast! But it was cool seeing them peeping out and then diving into the water. It was a wonderful day. My daughter couldn't stop thanking me. I was grateful, too. I'm glad I thought of this activity rather than spending it at home in 97-degree weather. Thank you, captain and Sail Monterey!

My son and I had a weekend sail on a catamaran, an intro sail, completed ASA 101 and had a few intro and club sails with Sail Monterey, and rented a boat for a sail with my kids. This was my fifth time sailing with Sail Monterey, and they never disappoint. No one else signed up for the Happy Hour Sunset trip and Captain Vince still took us out for what turned into a beautiful private sail. That kind of dedication and customer care is rare. He was also my instructor for the Introduction to Sailing class, and he is consistently professional, smart, patient, and kind. I always feel safe and well taken care of on board. I absolutely love this company and will continue to sail with them again and again.! read more

Cannot say enough positive things about the happy hour cruise with Kiwi - it was the perfect taste of getting out on the water, great value, and she was an absolute delight! I had a friend visiting and we both agree this was the highlight of our trip. The boat was super comfortable as well. The sunset cruise was AMAZING. The directions for the meet up point and instructions on what to wear was clear and very helpful. The crew and our captain, Paul was very friendly and knowledgeable about sea life in the bay. The drinks were flowing and we got many cute social media worthy pics. We had a fantastic sail with Paul. It was supposed to be a sunset catamaran cruise and it actually got cancelled the day we were supposed to cruise, so they called me 2 hours before and let me know it would be rescheduled for the following day. I appreciated the heads up for planning purposes! The next day we sailed and I'm so glad it was saved for that day because we saw a baby humpback whale! God snuck in a little surprise for us. Just completed ASA 101 with Kiwi as our instructor. I am about to take an extensive sailing trip and wanted to hone my sailing skills and knowledge before doing so and this was a perfect resource. Can't recommend this group enough. They're as approachable as they are knowledgeable. I had a great afternoon of sailing for my intro class with Vince on their racing boat Tardis, and Kiwi was an amazing instructor for the three days of 101. Classes are small and everyone had a lot of individual attention and instruction. Kiwi was extremely patient and made sure everyone felt comfortable and confident in their skills. Would absolutely recommend to anyone curious about sailing regardless of experience level. read more

These guys are awesome! I would definitely recommend taking a cruise with Sail Monterey. We took an ASA 101 course from Captain Paul who was a fantastic, thorough and patient teacher. They also do shorter "intro to sailing" classes which are super accessible and fun for those curious to learn what sailing is all about. If you don't want to learn to sail yourself, they have tons of pleasure cruises where you can see whales, have a beer and just relax. Go check them out! read more

Best place to learn how to sail! I learned everything I know about sailing from Sail Monterey. The owner Captain Paul and Captain Vince and everyone at Sail Monterey are so awesome and welcoming. Whether you have never been on a sail boat or are an experienced sailor wanting to fine tune your technique then Sail Monterey will take care of you. Right from the start I knew here was a company that was going to take the time to answer all my questions and train me at the speed that I needed. Paul and all his staff are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Within a short period of time I was hiring different sailboats within their fleet and practising everything I had been taught on the sail classes. Their location couldn't be any easier, there is the main Monterey car park right next to their boats and you can always find parking even on busy weekends. In between the practical sailing classes and theory classes you can grab lunch right there at any of the Monterey Wharf restaurants and cafes, super handy. Sail Monterey has a wide range of boats to train on and rent which is great for experiencing how different boats sail and handle, that alone is worth going with them. But the main value and reason to go with Sail Monterey is the people, everyone really cares about their work and goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is as good as it possibly can be. Their skills and knowledge are first class. I am sure if you book with them you will have the same amazing experience I had and continue to have. read more

We've sailed twice with Sail Monterey and had fantastic experiences both trips. We went out this afternoon with Captain Vince, who was friendly, warm, knowledgeable, and super skilled. He let our 14 year old, who has some sailing experience, take the wheel for a bit, which was unexpected and very kind. Great communication prior about conditions and timing, as well. Treat yourself to time on the water with these guys... it's pretty magical! read more

We took the Sunset Catamaran Sailing Cruise on a whim and it was an amazing experience. Captain is so cool and funny, plays good tunes. We had an exhilarating sea adventure! This is the second time we have been on the catamaran in Monterey with Caltsin Paul! Hes great and such a gentlemen captain! I had such an excellent experience on the boat. We had a family of 4 children and a dad. They asked a thousand questions to Captain Paul and he and he was attentive to the kids and answered all their questions. They have never been on a boat or on water, and he made the family so comfortable and us to read more

This was the BEST catamaran cruise we've ever had! My husband and I booked the 11am trip and were the only people on board, so we had a private cruise. My name is Paul, I am a manager, captain, and instructor here at Sail Monterey. All of our captains myself included have years of experience on the ocean. As well, all of us are United States Coast Guard licensed captains. Here at Sail Monterey, we are passionate about our bay, Pacific Ocean, and of course sailing! Some of us have crossed oceans, some of us have dreams of sailing around the globe, but mostly we just love showing you the magic of a boat under sail. Ask us any questions you can think of. I can confidently say that I made the right decision. What separated Carrera Sailing from the competition for me was Gene himself and his attention to detail. He is not a large company that churns through customers as quickly as possible. He focuses on quality and providing great customer service. From the start, he was very transparent to me regarding the wind and weather conditions and provided recommendations for the dates we were in town. You could also tell that Gene had decades of experience from the entertaining stories and experiences he shared during the trip. He knows every aspect of sailing and even custom manufactures carbon fiber additions to his boat. Overall, the experience was absolutely perfect and we will definitely be back.

They gave an informational overview of where to paddle to see wildlife as well as other recommendations and safety tips. They provide life jackets, waterproof jackets and pants which were great too keep water off your clothes. There are porto potties available if you need to use the facilities. The staff were well very nice and helpful. The main con of our trip was the two person top sitting kayak we were on seemed to have problems with steering. No matter how hard we tried to turn right, the kayak always tended to veer the other direction which was frustrating. We got another kayak to check if they saw anything wrong visually on the water, but they couldn't see anything so maybe there was something going on with the underside of the kayak. Besides that, we had a nice time on the water and were able to enjoy seeing all the birds and cute otters and seals out and about. Later in the morning and early afternoon we even got to see the otters get more active and go diving for mud worms that looked like bright orange cigars. It was super cute seeing the otters sleeping nested in the kelp too. Try not to disturb them though since they need to conserve energy to stay warm! We unfortunately saw one tour group led by a guide that went right next to a sleeping pod of otters and woke them all up. Overall, fun place to go kayaking with wildlife! Glad we went on this trip here!

I'm very susceptible to motion sickness and was hesitant to get on a sailboat. However, the friendly staff provided me a wristband (no side effects!) and I was good to go. The boats were very clean and comfortable. I went out for two hours on a sunset sail and the trip was GORGEOUS. The captain answered all of my questions about the cute and cuddly animals swimming by (sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals...) and the view of the sunset was breathtaking. Needless to say I did not get sea sick and had the experience of a life time! I really appreciated the friendly captain Dutch, I could tell that he was doing what he loved. He even let me stear the boat! I would recommend Monterey Bay Sailing to anyone looking for an adventure or relaxing activity. read more

My brother recently returned from serving in Afghanistan and wanted to do something special with the family. We called MBS and spoke to Maddie who was able to set up a trip for us that day! We showed up got on the boat and had the most amazing sailing experience we could imagine! The weather was perfect, the sea was calm, we saw dolphins, sea otters, and sealions which was just what my brother and his wife wanted. Dutch even taught us a fair amount about sailing which got us interested in taking a certification class so we could take out a boat ourselves next time! Overall the trip was amazing and thanks to Dutch and Maddie we will be returning to MBS the next time we think about going out on the bay! read more

My friend and I went on a one-hour tour with Captain Dutch and had a fabulous time. There were clear skies, clear waters, and lots of marine life, including the usual sea lions and otter, as well as some Risso dolphins and ocean sunfish. It was definitely a great way to get up close to the animals. The dolphins went right underneath our boat! We didn't have a reservation. The walk-in process was easy, we just signed up for the cruise that was departing. Prices were reasonable and overall a great experience. read more

My wife and I had zero experience sailing and wanted to learn how to sail and get ASA certified. We did our research and chose Sail Monterey who are hands down the best place to do so! Paul is a great instructor and made it super interesting and fun while getting deep into the techniques. He got us out sailing in no time. We now regularly rent one of their many boats (always well maintained) and go out sailing alone. Absolutely outstanding and highly recommended! read more

I have to say this was one of the most relaxing things to do on the Monterey Bay. Not only is sailing very affordable, it has a much more personalized feel then the other tourist activities. I took an hour cruise and got to see the some wildlife, and great views of the Bay. Captain Dutch was very knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed. Fantastic Sail! Great catamaran, big, spacious and VERY smooth! No Dramamine needed! Captain Paul was awesome! He went out of his way to get us closer to the dolphins and a whale we spotted in the sunset, so cool! Watched some seals roll around and play and a couple otters too! We got to see it all! We had a lovely sunset trip on a lovely boat at Monterey Bay Sailing! We booked the Appetizer Cruise with complimentary wine. Appetizers were great. Brie, Crackers, grapes, pears, with pita bread and spicy hummus.
