Their Arborist recommended saving one of our giant Silver Maples and we are thrilled we did! It is so beautiful....It would have been horrible if we had taken it down. Amazing service from this tree removal company. Estimate provided was less than 2 other bids, and they provided additional services other companies did not (stump removal and backfill). Everyone showed on time for the date of removal. Very large pine tree was cut down and removed within an hour of their showing--outstanding! Removal/cleanup of stump and various other branches took place couple of days later, but they left everything neat and tidy. Truly grateful for the professionalism and attention to detail. I asked for a bid to cut down 5 trees, and trim one tree. They were not going to haul any of the wood away or clean up, I was going to do all that. I thought the work would be a two man operation with a bucket truck. Their bid is ridiculously high, where I believe it was 3x my expectation (greater than $13000). They are still charging the post Derecho (8-10-2020) gouging fees, which appears to be a common problem with all aborists in eastern Iowa. read more

Absolutely horrible communication during job process. I requested to be met in person for the estimate and received a text message that they were at the property and couldn't wait. As a result, I then asked for a specific time that the job would be completed so I could be present since I was not given an opportunity to meet the estimator to ensure the job was understood by both parties. After taking the day off for the job day, no one had shown by early afternoon and I had to reach out to the company where I was then informed that it was being re-scheduled to the following day. I was given a specific time of 12:45 the following day for them to be present and was told I would also be contacted ahead of their arrival ( I confirmed both of these specifics 3 times with the phone scheduler). The following morning I received a text at around 0930 telling me that they were there and beginning the work. As I had rearranged my day to accommodate the 1245 timeframe, I was unable to get away from work and arrive home until 1130 to find all trees had been completed and no one was present. I reached out to the service to voice my displeasure that there had once again been no consideration or attempt to meet agreed upon requests for my presence and timeline. The following morning I received a call that they were present at my home to complete the stump removal (which was the expected timeframe), however, I was then told that three of the six stumps could not be removed as they were too close to the structure. How this was not determined during the estimate (that I was not present to discuss) doesn't seem to make sense to me. The choice given to me at that time was to have what work could be performed completed and the bill adjusted or have another estimate provided prior to the stump removal. Assuming that there would be a legitimate appraisal of work completed vs. what was originally designated, I told them to proceed since they were already on site with equipment. For the next 2-3 weeks I received invoices and past due notices for the original amount quoted (tree removal had been paid already as stump removal was quoted separately). Following multiple calls to service to have adjustments made so I could close out this arduous process, I finally received feedback that the billing had been amended. The amended billing only took approximately one third of the cost off even thought they had removed only half of the stumps they were contracted for. I was told that this was because it was determined that they adjusted the billing according to "time on site" vs work completed. Just wanting to end this time consuming and frustrating process I paid the amended cost after voicing my dissatisfaction to the company's phone manager. In summary, I would not recommend Advantage Tree Service to anyone (and have already informed others who inquired with me personally about them knowing I was having them perform work) due primarily to their poor/nonexistent communication, inability to fulfill agreed upon work and timeframes, and questionable billing practices. I have worked in customer service for over twenty years and would have lost excessive amounts of clients if I or my staff performed to these standards. read more

I know Iowa got hit hard from ground hurricane Aug 10, 20 . I got a proposal to pick up branches/limbs on the ground and just remove the lose branches in my tall sugar maple tree on the front yard. $3000. with tax. Now they will not trim the tree to prevent future damage from winds. This is Just to remove broken branches of which I have maybe three that are 6 inch dia. Two years ago I huge had a pin oak tree in my back yard behind my house trimmed for $500 by Advantage. But because they call this an emergency service they are taking advantage of people. They refused to talk to me about it as they promised after the bid. Needless to say. ROGER read more

We recommend Advantage Tree Service and we are picky; not good at praising. They are diplomatic, tech savvy, have great workers and the latest in aerial equipment. This "spider" equipment got thru my 3 foot wide gate; was extremely stable and had great reach. read more

Hired them because they purchased the tree service we used previously. Waited two months, brought wrong equipment which resulted in them dropping part of a tree on our mature lilac bush. Paid the foreman before they left but just received an invoice demanding payment within five days or we would accrue late fees and interest! Oh, and they didn't tell us that they contracted out the stump removal so we have no idea when that will happen. Horrible experience! read more

While taking down my neighbors tree, they placed a wood chipper with faulty exhaust under next to my house and under my homes air intake. Thank god I had received a text and started to smell something funny because I almost didn't make it out of my home. While I am thankful my pets and I are still alive, I hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't came home early, or had continued to sleep. House and everything in it currently reeks like fuel exhaust. No one from the company seemed to care about what they did at all. read more

As first reported, Advantage never showed for a scheduled appointment. Now I have received numerous emails from them concerning trimming a tree in the front of our property. I never asked about this tree and I have no idea when they even looked at it. I doubt they did. This tree does not need any service or trimming in any way and was trimmed 2 years ago. Not only does this company not show for appointments but they try to scam people with fraudulent services that are not needed. They are to be avoided at all costs. I have responded to their emails and told them NO. However, they keep sending them. Worst memories ever or just straight up crooks? read more

I called to have them remove a substantial 6" low hanging branch over the driveway. The guys were great and did an excellent job. The work was fairly priced and the clean up was excellent. Definitely happy and would highly recommend them! read more

These guys do a good job with tree and stump removal as well as tree fertilizing. But I was most impressed with how they cleaned up our two large pin oak. By clean up, I mean removal of dead and/or "extra" branches, which allows more sun to get to our lawn and is also good for the long-term health of the trees themselves. I came home from work and was pleased to see how well the Advantage guys cleaned up after themselves: no big sticks left behind on the ground. read more
