We needed to cover a 90 sq ft wall with ledger tile. Our tile floor also needed to be patched…read more The job was made difficult by 6 floating shelves and a bar with supporting brackets that would be mounted on the wall after it was tiled. Since the surface of the ledger stone is rough and uneven, we decided to have the tile wrap around the shelves. We placed plywood placeholders on the wall where tile was to wrap. Getting an estimate from Lawrence was easy. I just sent him a few photos. He showed up the next morning at precisely 7:30am to confirm his opinion of the job. He suggested that a 1/8" gap should be maintained around the shelves to prevent cracking the tiles under load. He also mentioned that the ledger stones were not perfectly square and that one needed to constantly check level as the tile is installed. Lawrence left and soon emailed me a formal quote with the price unchanged. I accepted and he arrived the next morning with his assistant and everything he needed to start work at 7:30am. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the tile went up. There was no wasted motion and they had installed the last tile by 4:30 that same day. Even their clean up routine was precise and orderly. And they left the job site clean. I paid Lawrence in full at the end of the first day. He returned the next day, on a Saturday, to grout the repaired floor tile while we we away. You can trust Lawrence to keep his word. He's Old School.

This made me feel better; however, in the end, we lost $1,000+ because the calculated number of tiles purchased was inaccurate/inflated and we ended up with 13-1/2 cases of leftover tiles, which could not be returned for reimbursement. If someone from the company had actually come to see and measure the pool, this extra wasted cost could have been avoided. Going forward, I hope never to experience something like this ever again in the rest of my senior years.
